ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Do not even look at that projection until it is two days out. Then the drill is to make sure your flights aren't affected and be prepared to change them if need be. I implore you all, after so many August/September trips there is NO WAY to know where one of those things is going to go until that 48 hour mark. There is just zero point in watching it until then.

Thanks for this. That's kinda what I thought, but with everyone talking about it, it made me worry I was missing something. :)

Watching it isn't about trying to predict it, it's about knowing what your options are. The closer the storm gets the more info you have as to what options are available (if needed).

Now is not the time to change plans, but rather find out all of your options, then as it gets closer and more accurate information becomes available, you start making the best choices regarding travel, plans etc.

It's up to each person to either calmly process the information or overreact, but ignoring information doesn't have to be the only choice.

For those planning to arrive next week....DO NOT START FREAKING OUT!

But not a bad time to start making sure you know the drill.

Thanks for the info. I'd rather know what's going on leading up to our departure than not know! Even though we are still three weeks out, it gives us an idea whether this year will be more or less active than previous years.

I wasn't trying to offend. I think it's a good idea to know what your options are ANY time you travel, and to know what protocol is for hurricane season. Though I think a map of where it is over a week away can incite unnecessary panic and was reiterating your point, that panic at this point is futile.
In all of my August trips there has often been 3 or 4 storms to keep an eye on at a time and there has always been one that was a threat of some sort. I've worried for most of them.
The National Hurricane Center and local news stations for your flight points will be the best places to keep an eye on as things progress. It has been my experience in several trips that the 48 hour mark is when you can start hanging your hat on the predictions and when it will be time to watch the websites of your airlines for change information.

I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or what, but we are currently 24 days out and have yet to receive our Mickey Mail from our TA. I contacted her on Monday and she said that her boss got it first, then her, then us. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and if I should contact anyone about it?

We're 23 days and our TA only received it two days ago and she mailed it out yesterday. I'm sure I was a huge pest to her but I recall last time when I booked alone the mail came sooner!

Have her check to make sure it was sent out to her, other than that you have to wait it out :-(

Thank you so much. It's our first trip and first time using a TA so I wasn't sure if I was just being super paranoid or not. :-/

One of the reasons I decided to book on my own this year. I didn't like having to wait on info to get from point, to point, to point.

This is our first time using a TA and while we liked not sitting on hold long distance we didn't like giving up control lol!

Well 31 days till Disney and 22 days till Orlando! Oldest daughter wants to start watching Disney Movies so we are good to go!:cool1:

We are 23 days out!!! :cool1:

Since this is the first time we are going in mid Aug and not end of Aug/Sept, we purchased this book (along with the updated Hidden Mickey book) for my 11yr old and 4yr to do in line. We just received it yesterday and it is a really cool book. Highly recommend!

I am still unsure about the photo pass + Has anyone actually used before and thought it was worth the $150?

We did the PhotoPass+ in Dec and it was worth every penny! We are using it again this year! I was thinking of getting the Hidden Mickey book for my oldest as he loves to spot hidden Mickeys and looks for them everywhere.

My oldest gets home this afternoon and we are going to be doing Disney movie nights! We're going to do Lady & the Tramp first with spaghetti & meatballs and then I think Finding Nemo and I'm going to look at the library to see if they have any movies we don't have. I have boys, but they've never seen Little Mermaid and I'd love to do that one!

I'd love to get a copy of Mulan as I love her! Have to watch Lelo and Stitch as well. I have 3 girls and they love Tangled and Brave (oldest one said Disney finally got the princess thing right with this one!). Of courese Little Mermaind and Beauty and the Beast are always good ones. Sadly a lot of my older Disney ones were on Video and DH got rid of them ages ago since we had nothing to play them on. I'll have to dig through what we have and see what other ones we have on DVD. We will have to watch Dispiciable Me since we are going to Universal and they have that ride there now. We all know the Harry Potter books and movies by hart so we don't need to do them again. :woohoo: All this should get us in the mood for our trip...now as long as those big stroms stay way we are good to go and don't mind getting out the ponchos...which are bought and ready to go.:dance3:

I sent an SOS to friends/family that lived nearby. Gave them our Disney movie rental wish list 30 days before. We had a ton of offers to borrow some for a few days. It has saved us time, money and hassle.

We went to Universal last time. It was so much!

We're down to 33 days! I keep mentally packing, but I realized because we're so limited on clothes right now (we're all wearing what I need to pack) I won't really get to pack until the day before we leave. So if anyone hears random frustration noises ringing across America on the 24th of next month, it's just me.
