ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

We debated this too but on the backside. We have a DVC rental from Fri-Fri at SSR and planned on going to Clearwater Fri to Mon. But when we had to put in the cost of rental car, travel gas, hotel, etc... It made more sense to just make a longer WDW trip and add some relaxing days in between. Disney is tiring :)

I hear you. We will have our car because we are driving. I like the idea of spacing out park days more but I am not canceling ADRs at this point (have already done 2 other times we had to change the dates). If we had known this ahead of time that would have been ideal. Plus we have family meeting us and can't expect them to change plans now. We can't add on to the end because I am a teacher and we have it timed with an extra day for me at home before going back to school.

I did arrange this through the Disboards this time. However the three other times we've rented points we've used DavidsDVC. I would recommend that for the first time you rent. He explains everything very clearly on his site, and is a sponsor on the Disboards. His point cost is a little higher (14 per point) but worth it in my opinion. He's BBB accredited and walks you through everything and if anything at all goes wrong he backs up your reservation. Renting privately is more of a gamble and I was only willing to do so this time because it Davids didn't have the points available for WL at 7 months out. The owner I worked with was great and has a good history on the boards so I felt more comfortable with her.
Check out his site and you can get an idea of point costs at all the resorts. DVC rate periods aren't the same as regular room rate periods. So it's much cheaper to use DVC rentals for some dates. My dates are peak season through Disney reservations but a low point cost through DVC.
The best place to start is Davids. He has charts and FAQ's that are really good at explaining it all:)

I've checked it out and you are right- very easy to read through and figure out. I'm intrigued- but value resort is still the most affordable way for a summer visit (boooooo).......!!!!

ETA: Lol Did somewhere in my crazy little brain I think we could get deluxe accommodations for near value level prices?!?!?!

I like the sound of all of that! I will have to look into it for our next trip...whenever that may be. If I was wealthy and more traveled I'd go every year, but next year I think we'd really like to do a cruise to the Bahamas or some such tropical beach paradise. Or no cruise and just a week in Puerto Rico!

My parents go to Atlantis in the Bahamas every year- in fact, they just got home tonight! It might be the Disney World of the Caribbean for you and your son! I went to Exuma in the Bahamas for Christmas for a few years- totally gorgeous. Also, I LOVE Puerto Rico, such a beautiful island. I have been down twice- once to take a college class and once on a trip with my DH. I want to take my boys there.

Compromise. 1 night in Daytona and 1 extra night at Disney! Or you could do Disney's Hilton Head for a night or two. :)

Or Vero Beach!! I miss the ocean, so I'd go with 2 nights in Daytona if I could get an oceanview room! :-) almost looked into doing something similar this trip, but we opted to do Sea World instead...

Thank you for mentioning this. I've also started looking at renting points for a trip next year to DL but I got intimidated by the whole thing fairly quickly and gave up.

We visited DL earlier this year and fell in love with it. Even though the kids and I promised DH that we would be taking a break from Disney after our August trip, it now looks like we'll be going back to DL next year (fingers crossed).

Life got busy and I have been MIA for a few weeks. The summer and our countdown are flying by. Wow, so many pages on this thread, I spent the evening catching up. Glad everyone is getting excited.

We have 34 days and in the last 2 days I have changed around ADR's and a couple of park days. We are now in Epcot on the 19th but we will still miss the dis meet on the 20th as we have BOG :) but no park hoppers :(

We also changed resorts a couple of months ago and are now at the Allstar Music family suites. With 5 of us we will have a lot more room and a preferred location for only a little more $$ compared to our standard room at POR.

I started gathering things to pack and put them in a central location today. We had already done most of our shopping a few weeks ago so that made it easier. I am so ready to go but don't want to wish away the summer!

Hi all!
Our trip is on Aug 6 - Aug 14. (Disney All Star Movies)

Mine, my Wifes, AAAAND my little girl (turning 9) all fall in August. So we're doing a group B-Day celebration.
We did this in 2010 (my daughters first time to Disney). Had a fantastic time, but I said that the next time would be a non summer trip.
The heat/humidity was just WOW! Took me forever to photoshop the sweaty mess that i was out of the pics.

But since, my wife (teacher) and lil gal don't get out of school till the summer (not to mention the better rates we get for airfare..) ..I thought I'd brave summer once again.
So trying to get in better shape, and pack accordingly (water fans will definitely be taken this time!)
Can't wait!!!

My husband has a few extra days to take at the beginning of our vacation! He would like to stay in Daytona for 2 nights and I would like to just hurry up and get to Disney (not extra park time but pools/Downtown Disney/leisure lol).

What would you do?

Since you are driving, have you thought about St. Augustine? It's about 2 hours from Disney and a lovely town to visit. We always stop there on our way down, so wanted to give you a suggestion.

Thanks! Will look into Vero and St. Aug. Husband is drawn to Daytona to check out the track there (I guess there is a tour?). I'll be at the beach/pool!!!! Can't wait!

Glad to hear those endorsements, thanks. I will look into Atlantis. And Puerto Rico is a certainty, just don't know when. I just know I will definitely go someday, hopefully soon. :goodvibes

That is such a great idea. My suggestion would be for that also. We just absolutely LOVE Disney's Hilton Head Resort! :cool1:

Checked the HH rates- not going to happen lol. But it looks so beautiful!

We are celebrating my Birthday, well my last year's B-Day - LOL. About the heat in Aug, ya know cooling cloths are really the height of fashion this year I hear. Have a great time!

We are going August 10-19. It is my husband, myself, DD (2 1/2) and DS (12). We are staying at POR. Cannot wait!

Checked the HH rates- not going to happen lol. But it looks so beautiful!

Summer prices at HH are high, but if you go during the off-season (like fall), the rate drops to about $110 a night. We are still trying to plan our first off-season stay there!

Me personally, I'd be on the side of your DH on this one. I love adding new and unique elements to a vacation, and during the summer, I think a couple of days at Daytona Beach would be da bomb.

Plus, if your DH is anything like mine, he is usually is pretty quiet about his vacation wish-list (happy to do all the things that DS and I have our hearts set on). So if he actually says "hey honey, you know what I'd like to do when we are on holidays? ___________________ " then I would move heaven and earth to make it so :) .
