ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

QOTD! KtP had a wait time of over 3 hours for Test Track yesterday! What is the longest you would wait for your favorite ride?

20 minutes. 25 max. That's more my kids' limit than my limit, but I don't see the point of waiting in long lines when you could be doing other things. I've also only gone during low season, so we'll see how many rides we get to ride next month!

On another note, I'm thinking of starting my kids on pin trading. Thoughts? I would have started them last trip, but I didn't know we'd be back so soon! Now with this trip and a cruise coming up, I thought it might be a good pastime for them.

It is a splash area in the new Fantasyland. We haven't been there first hand yet but the YouTube videos show that the kids will get soaked. I am sure there is clothing merchandise right near it :)

I personally miss Donald's boat. It was more interesting and interactive.

Taking a break at an outdoor concert that should get me more than ready for Disney in August. It's only 104 in the shade here. :)

Yikes! The temperature wasn't high here today, but the humidity was insane.

I have a back pack, in it I am planning to carry: 4 ponchos, 2 water bottles , 1 phone, 2 cameras , snacks, 2 cooling cloths, 1 sun screen, comb, kids hats/my hat when on rides, KTTW card, glow sticks for night, change of clothes for DD7. Will I have space to carry mister fans? Think I have enough already right? Plus God forbid I buy anything lol.

If you buy anything, just have it shipped back to your hotel!

Well said! I agree... sometimes I get stressed about totally unrelated things when I don't feel I have prepared for something.

Btw: thanks for the driving vs flying (we're driving) ;) LOL!!!

Oops! :rolleyes1

Cortisone injection in my heel yesterday has me down and out, but giving me more time to plan, guilt-free!!!(Giving my usual jobs out to the kids... :) Sure hope this works though, otherwise by the end of the trip my family will be wheeling me around!!!!

I hope the injection helps and you are feeling better soon!

Since I've cancelled the August trip there will be no testing options for me. I am guessing though that this will already be rolled out for our December trip so I will keep an eye on the website.
Bought my December flights today. Everything is more expensive that time of year:scared: Flights were higher, food is going to be about two thousand more (no free dining for me) and hotel rates are way higher though I rented Wilderness Lodge points for a studio so I saved quite a bit there. It's just crazy to compare the costs though. The December trip will be 1500-2000 higher than the August one was going to be:scared:

Ugh on the added expenses.

I can access the website again! Somebody celebrate with me! :cool1: I guess they've forgiven me for my premature button clicking! :rotfl:

Good for you! I, on the other hand, can not access anything on MDE. It's a little frustrating!

QOTD! KtP had a wait time of over 3 hours for Test Track yesterday! What is the longest you would wait for your favorite ride?

Back in the day, before FPs, when there were only one or two parks, it was nothing to wait 45-60 minutes for rides like Pirates! Crazy...I wouldn't do that now. For the most part, 20-25 minutes is my limit, but depending on the ride, I will push it. If TSMM was 40 min. I might wait for it.

I think the longest DH and I have waited has been 40 min. I can't remember the longest before I started going with him but I want to say it was at California Adventure when Soarin first opened and it was easily a 2 hour wait. Never again lol

The longest we've ever waited was one hour for toy story mania. The only reason we waited that long is because we had a dining reservation in a little under an hour and a half, I had a stomach ache, and we all just wanted to be in air conditioning, so we figured why not. We made friends with the people next to us in line and their kids and ours played the whole time. Minus having to stand, it wasn't a bad little break!

Probably a half hour. I'm willing to wait a bit for a favourite, but my favourites tend to be equipped with Fastpasses, so I don't usually wait in their standby lines if I can avoid it.

This sounds fabulous! Right up the kids' ally- going to YouTube it now!

That is terrible! I didn't think it gets more expensive than summer! How much does renting DVC points save you I've booking a deluxe or moderate room?

I paid $1381 for a studio at Wilderness Lodge Villas for 7 nights. So about $198 a night. The same room through Disney for the same dates comes to $3601 or over $500 per night. Port Orleans Riverside in a standard room comes to $252 a night.
So it was cheaper than a mod and way cheaper than the full price from Disney:)

WOW!!!! You have my attention! I need to learn how to do this for the future. Is it always possible to find what you need dates wise?

My husband has a few extra days to take at the beginning of our vacation! He would like to stay in Daytona for 2 nights and I would like to just hurry up and get to Disney (not extra park time but pools/Downtown Disney/leisure lol).

What would you do?

Also- did you arrange this through the Dis boards? I just meandered over to that board and there are SO many rules/refs to read through- intimidated!!

I did arrange this through the Disboards this time. However the three other times we've rented points we've used DavidsDVC. I would recommend that for the first time you rent. He explains everything very clearly on his site, and is a sponsor on the Disboards. His point cost is a little higher (14 per point) but worth it in my opinion. He's BBB accredited and walks you through everything and if anything at all goes wrong he backs up your reservation. Renting privately is more of a gamble and I was only willing to do so this time because it Davids didn't have the points available for WL at 7 months out. The owner I worked with was great and has a good history on the boards so I felt more comfortable with her.
Check out his site and you can get an idea of point costs at all the resorts. DVC rate periods aren't the same as regular room rate periods. So it's much cheaper to use DVC rentals for some dates. My dates are peak season through Disney reservations but a low point cost through DVC.
The best place to start is Davids. He has charts and FAQ's that are really good at explaining it all:)

Compromise. 1 night in Daytona and 1 extra night at Disney! Or you could do Disney's Hilton Head for a night or two. :)

Like many others I would say 30 minutes or so. Although I do think we waited in line for quite a while -- an hour? -- for Space Mountain on our first night last year. It had been 5 years since our last trip, and my son was not into the big rides then. He just NEEDED to ride it immediately when we arrived, and we got in in the late afternoon -- no fp's. At least SM has an interactive queue so it didn't seem so bad.

We debated this too but on the backside. We have a DVC rental from Fri-Fri at SSR and planned on going to Clearwater Fri to Mon. But when we had to put in the cost of rental car, travel gas, hotel, etc... It made more sense to just make a longer WDW trip and add some relaxing days in between. Disney is tiring :)

I like the sound of all of that! I will have to look into it for our next trip...whenever that may be. If I was wealthy and more traveled I'd go every year, but next year I think we'd really like to do a cruise to the Bahamas or some such tropical beach paradise. Or no cruise and just a week in Puerto Rico!
