ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

2 weeks from tonight we will just be finishing up our first dinner at 50s Prime Time at Studios. Sigh. One more training trip out to Madison WI then I'm officially on Mickey Time. Can't wait!!!!!

You are absolutely gonna love it! We went there on our last trip. When I booked it, I thought..."why am I choosing this. It sounds so...blah."
But it was one of our FAVORITE places to eat on that trip! The staff is hilarious!
We were celebrating all of our birthdays in august (all of us fall in august) . So our waitress, brought three other members and sang to us "happy birthday". The WORST, off key, pitchy, happy birthday we ever heard. It was GREAT!!!!:lmao:

You're gonna love em. I guarantee it!

I just went onto MDE and was able to customize MagicBands and request FP+. I have not received an email, but I customized and saved anyway. I figured it couldn't hurt. I did not like any of the times it gave me for FP+. We are planning on hitting RD at MK on our second day, eating lunch at 11, then heading out for a break until after dinner. It mostly gave me early- to mid- afternoon FP times, or evening. Same thing for our RD Epcot day. Hopefully I will still be able to use regular FP.

We are staying at POP 8/20-8/25, by the way, and we have a room + MYW pkg.

Had you tried doing this earlier in the day?

Ha! Wasn't it hot in those costumes???

YES!!! It was SOOO hot in them!
The 'sets' ( time out in the park) were usually 30 minutes.
On hot hot days, when it hit 100 degrees...they would shorten the 'sets' by five minutes. If it got to 105, they would shorten the sets to 15 minutes. They would encourage us to 'stay in the shade, but it really didn't help that much. I would just try and be as energetic as I could, just to get my mind off of how HOT it was. It usually made the time go by pretty quick.

I won the "Character of the year" award three years in a row. LOL! I was mainly "Bugs Bunny" and "Yosemite Sam", and they sent me out to a lot of fun out of park specials. To places like the Warner Brothers lot, and I got to help present Fritz Freleng (Creator of many warner characters like Yosemite Sam) with his star on the Hollywood Walk of fame. So if you see pictures from that....with Fritz and characters behind him...one of those characters is ME!
wOW..That was way back in...1991 or 1992. A loooooooong time ago!

Being a 'character' is sooo much fun. I always hated seeing 'characters' just stand there and you could obviously tell that they were just bored or didn't want to be there. I hated that. So....I really played it up. Had lots of fun. I mean...if I HAD to be there..might as well enjoy myself, Right?!

One of the fun bits I made up, was a 'magic trick'. I would take a kids hat...point to it very dramatically. First in one hand then the other. take it behind my back, and then slowly pull one hand out(empty),,then the other hand out...(empty!).
The kids eyes would widen like saucers!! He'd look to his Mom and say "how'd you DO that!?!?"
I would then shrug, blow on my fist and rub it across my chest very proudly, then turn and do my best bugs bunny strut away- revealing that I had the kids hat....firmly placed on my tail.
The kid would scream 'HEEEEYYYYY!!' And the pace of my walk would quicken until he finally caught up to me.
All very fun and the crowds loved it.
As characters..the higher ups would encourage us to be lively..but not to really do much other than greet. I hated that. These characters HAVE characters! And being that I was studying animation..i wasn't about to NOT 'do' anything. LOL!
I attracted big crowds and got awards for it.So I guess they just let me do my own thing after awhile. Although they winced abit when I started to do splits, cartwheels, and backflips at the fireworks show. :yay:

But when you go off 'set' and take off those costumes...yeah. Your a big sweaty mess. LOL

Sorry for droning on! :rotfl:

We have a room only reservation and got selected for MagicBands and Fastpass + but since we haven't linked our tickets yet (DH is dragging his feet for some, strange, unknown, annoying reason) so I'm assuming when we finally get them and we link them, we'll be able to add the Fastpass+.

I'm sure this has been covered before but the regular Fastpass systems will still be in place next month right?

How can you tell if you got selected? I have the button to link my tickets, but we have the military tickets so we can't. I'm just curious if we will be able to participate too.

Ps. I don't spend much time on the website because I find it frustrating, so I don't tend to notice the little changes.

When I went on the website, I clicked on Magic Bands under MDE and it let me customize them. I couldn't do FP+ because I don't have my tickets yet. Hope this helps!

Love it. Thanks for the insight- really interesting. One of the few memories of visiting the parks when we were little was the time my sister stepped on Mickeys foot and it indented and then popped back out (lol) and playing with Chip an Dale because they would interact like you said and play tricks and cause mischief. I even remember going to a farm team baseball game that had a really fun mascot who literally played with the kids throughout the game. Makes a difference besides just standing around and taking a picture!

My wife spent last night making shirts for our trip. I only got a picture of the one she made for me, but the rest are very similar in look, just different colors and patterns.

Yeah, I'm Irish.

Don't be sorry! Some of my most cherished memories at Disney (and other amusement parks, actually) were when the characters truly enjoyed and made special the interaction time with my kids. I think it's great that you enjoyed your job and spread so much joy to so many people!

I think you need to be staying at either Pop, AKL, CR or YC.

Sounds like fun (minus the heat ;) )!!

DD10 went with her recreation group to a theatre in the round musical "The Little Mermaid." We expected she would come home with thrilling stories about the show. Instead she come home complaining "Bob the Lobster? Really?" We laughed as she exclaimed "Stucky the Starfish got stuck in a theatre seat and the little girl next to him wouldn't help him get out!" and then she says "The mermaid's name was Kira! Who's heard of a little mermaid names Kira??" "And all the songs were wrong, Flapper the Sea Gull sang "Caw,Caw,Caw" that was a bad song."
I guess this theatre company couldn't afford the rights to the Disney show. :rotfl:

Just put in our Garden Grocer order (it's weird ordering groceries over 5 weeks in advance!) and reserved a stroller from Simple Stroller Rental (was the cheapest place I could find - use promo code THANKS for $5 off!) It's starting to feel more real! :dance3:

A month out today! :cool1:

We're in the midst of what should've been an easy remodeling project. We thought the hard part was ripping out the old flooring but it turns out that was pretty easy. We still have adhesive from the old flooring down that doesn't want to come up at all. We're going to have to rent a floor grinder to get it all up. More expense and I have to figure out when we can do it.

These things never go like they are supposed to do they? :confused3

So how many FP+ were you able to pick? I was able to pick 3 but heard some could pick 4.

Amen, brother!

I feel your pain. We are still in the midst of our upgrades after the basement flood caused by the outdoor tap that burst 11 days ago.

The contractor for the foundation repairs and waterproofing has been secured and I expect him to complete the work late in the month. We have also secured a second contractor to replace the damaged drywall in our downstairs bathroom, as well as replace all trim and repaint the whole room. Then the driveway can be paved once the foundation work is done.

Still a few weeks off completion, but at least I feel a little better with all the plans now in place.

I hope your renos go more smoothly from here :goodvibes .

Called Tech support about the duplicate tickets. She said she made a note of it on my account. She also wanted me to double check with my TA to see which was correct. I told her I had a receipt telling me the 8 day tickets were correct. Then out of the blue she asked me, "Did you get an email asking you to participate in an upcoming test?" I told her that I had not received an email and asked her if I was supposed to get one. She hmmmd and haaad a bit and said no. That she was just asking to make sure if I did receive one that I didn't have any questions about it. Odd. Anyway, she was super nice and hopefully the ticket thing will be straigtened out soon.

Oh, that's so funny! I'm surprised they could even call it "The Little Mermaid" :lmao:

We're going to see the real production tomorrow at our CLO. So excited :goodvibes
