I am getting curious on what Limited Time Only events will be going on during the trip, we are staying for 10 nights, 11 days so we should be able to take advantage of 2 weeks worth, I know most of the Limited Time Only events have been less then exciting, but hoping August is the month they step up their game:goodvibes

I know the feeling! I've been wondering this myself and asked DH what he might think it would be... No ideas here but i hope the two weeks we're there have something good that we'd be interested in!

I'd love to do a meet with some of you, but the 20th is my arrival date. We have to be at the airport by 5:00 am, so I don't think we're going to have a very long day :)

We won't be going to Epcot that day, we are meeting some out of town friends for dinner at Chef Mickey's and then we'll probably call it a night.

Our flight arrives in Orlando around 10 am.

I'm there for 9 days, though, so if anyone wants to plan something another day, I'd be up for it if it's somewhere I'll be that day :):):wave2::goodvibes

ETA: I know they close these threads at 250 pages, so whoever started it (Seneca?) will have to start a new one soon :):)

DTD seems like a good idea if we could all make a few hours work so that anyone can go without tickets or hoppers. It could be a Ghiradelli Ice Cream meet:cool2:

If you decide on a DTD meet, I am totally in. Probably would not make it over to CBR for the marshmallow roast as I am guessing it wouldn't appeal to my fellas. But a Ghiradelli sundae? That's another story. :thumbsup2

I had wondered/was excited about these a few months ago. Then I forgot about them. Are they even doing anything these days? While I don't agree with those who have been complaining continuously about the lack of wow, (after all, you are going to Disney - it's there's a little something extra, then great, if not, you are still at Disney!), but I do have to say I am a little surprised from a marketing point of view that they've allowed this concept to be executed so poorly.

I may have mentioned it on this thread a few months ago. When they had the Earth Day celebration at AK, they released limited merchandise both in the park and online for just that week (supposedly - not sure if the stuff is still around the parks). I ordered an AK anniversary t-shirt for DS15 because he was born in 1998 and when he was young, he had an AK t-shirt that said "established 1998" that he loved because of the age connection. This one has 1998-2013 and 15th anniversary or something like that (I can't even remember now). Well, I FINALLY got notification about two days ago that this t-shirt is being shipped. NOW? I ordered it in April, it was supposedly limited merchandise, so why take two months to ship it? :confused3 Anyway, like I said, poor planning on Disney's part, but I'm still curious what we'll get.

My complaint with the Limited Time Magic is they didn't announce the entire year's lineup at the beginning of the year. It seems like they only release each week's events a few days prior, which means most guests will stumble across them in the parks instead of plan for them before their trip. It makes it seem like Disney has no idea what they will be doing from one week to the next, except for certain anchor weeks along the way.

ETA: Here's the link to the page that is supposed to announce each week. It is sparse and not frequently updated. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/let-the-memories-begin/limited-time-magic/

I think they did this on purpose. I think in their minds, they envision a "surpise" for guests whatever time period they have chosen to go, rather than have guests "plan around" whatever is offered for a certain time period. I think they knew ahead of time some things would be SO totally awesome (24 hour thingy) and that other things would be less than stellar. Just my 2 cents, but I can totally see them thinking this way.

Between our friends coming for a few days and all the talk of DIS meets, I'm ready to throw my hands up, scrap our plans and just wing it! :rotfl2:

Ok, not really, but this does bring me back around to that QOTD we had a while back on whether ADRs are a good thing or not, and it's times like these I wish we weren't making these plans 180 days out!

So, my friend asked if they could join us for dinner at Ohana :lmao::lmao::lmao:. Dinner for 8 at 70-something days out at a prime time so we can finish and view fireworks at a restaurant that fills up at around day 179. No problem...let me see what I can do! Yes, you all know the answer to this one. Well, in fairness there's a table at 9:45, but no thanks.

That day we have breakfast at Kona and dinner at Ohana. My mouth is already watering for Tonga Toast and I have eaten breakfast at Ohana, but never dinner. And I've had breakfast at Kona, but never dinner. I could switch Ohana to breakfast and Kona for dinner (there is availability).

Opinions? For those of you who have eaten at both, which meal at each place do you prefer?

Yeah, I can understand that, but as an avid planner, it drives me bonkers! I mean, we are in June already. Is it so top secret that we can't know August activities now?? :scared: Come on, Disney, throw us a bone! :rotfl:

I agree ADR's at 180 days out is hard to plan. I never know what i want to eat until the day i'm shopping for the food lol.

I've never had kona for any meal but have done Ohana for both and prefer the breakfast. The dinner meats were too sweet for our liking.

It is somewhat underwhelming. I remember when it was announced and I thought that it was going to be a pretty interesting concept. They've had some pretty good annual promotions over the years but this one does seem to have fallen a bit flat. Like you said though, we'll be at Disney and anything extra that we may get will be gravy.

I was reading an article on easywdw the other day where he did a review of Universal Studios and I have to say, just by reading the article I wish my kids were a bit older and we could take a side trip over there. I haven't been to Universal since 2000 so a lot has changed between then and now. It looks like they've made an honest effort to put in new things to draw new guests. The next time we drive to Orlando for a vacation (maybe next summer) we'll definitely have to think about venturing over there in addition to our time with Mickey & Friends.

It's funny that you mention the negativity that has been expressed in other threads about Disney on these boards. While I understand the need to have new rides/attractions/etc and innovate, there's a certain nostalgic component to Disney that we as adults have and want to share with our kids as well as friends and family that haven't been before. There's something special about seeing that Castle when you walk down Main Street USA and it doesn't matter if you are 4 or 104, meeting Mickey Mouse makes you feel like a kid again. For me, half of the enjoyment is just being there, not how many times I can ride Space Mountain or what stuff I can get. But the most enjoyment comes from seeing my kids really believing in and enjoying the magic. DD1 "knows" that there are people in those costumes but you'd never know it when she's running up to one for an autograph. There's an intangible thing that Disney provides that you can't really put a price on.

67 days to go! :yay: :thumbsup2 :cool1:

I couldnt agree more. The reaction on my kids face is priceless.

It's funny because I am on another thread now very vocally complaining about the website/app issues we have in Canada that have been going on at least a year. And I am not hesitant to comment when I think something is unacceptable. However I LOVE going to Disney and what they do they do first class in their parks. It's what keeps me coming back. There are some things that need fixing, but I still think it's the best vacation value out there for us:)

Personally, I prefer Ohana's for dinner and Kona for breakfast, which is what you currently have booked. I can understand wanting to be able to enjoy Ohana's with your friends but it would be hard to give it up. We had Kona for dinner a couple of summers ago and I it was just okay. Ohana breakfast is good but nothing special (unless you go for the characters).
Maybe you could book your friends at Kona and then meet afterwards for Wishes on the beach?:goodvibes
