Question of the Day???
Do you want to/have you done Pick a Pearl at EP Japan or DTD? Will you/did you buy a necklace to put it in?

I would do it for my dd but she's already done it. Her first two trips to Disney were without me:(. My parents took her for her first onsite trip when she was 7 and my SIL took her with her friend and her friends child when she was 8. She had it done on her second trip. We went for the first time as a family when she was 10. I am glad she got to go though:)
Actually now that you mention it.. I am going to do it darn it!!!!pixiedust:
Why not? She doesn't even know where the first one she got is. And she may have done it before but she's 16 now and it would be a nice gift from Mom wouldn't it?! I think I will save it for the Christmas surprise trip and we will have it done in Japan. We always have a mommy/daughter day in Epcot while the boys go to Disneyquest so this will be our treat at Christmas time!!
I'll look for a setting ahead of time:goodvibes

Nah, did it on a previous trip somewhere and it just seemed very overpriced. I usually try to get stuff that we can't get elsewhere.

I am picking a pearl this August for the first time, and I'm so excited! :woohoo: DH ordered me a Cinderella carriage necklace and pearl cage (very similar to the one above) and it arrived about a week ago :thumbsup2 . Not sure if I will pick the pearl at DTD or Typhoon Lagoon.....still decidin' on that one.

Each of my three kids are picking one for me and my hubby has designed a three drop setting can't wait!

Yes! I have done this on both of our previous trips. The first one i got it mounted on a silver ring, the second into a silver shell necklace. This time i'm thinking about buying a cage on ebay. I live this souvenir.

Since this is a mother-daughter vacation, this will be something fun for my mom and I to do together. It's an experience and a souvenir all in one! We probably won't get matching settings, but it would still be an awesome souvenir that we can wear all the time to remember the trip.

I would wear the Mickey ears headband that I got in Disneyland last year, but people on the "outside" just don't get it. They're more accepting of a ring or necklace as an expression of my Disney obsession.

Last time, my mom and niece did it in Japan. My niece got a ring and mom got an anklet. Later in the day, I told my H I wanted to do it next time. He couldn't understand why I didn't do it with them, but I wanted it to be special for them. I thought the ceremony in Japan was so interesting and fun and we all loved the production.

Does anyone know the cost? Maybe I'll do it in November with DH.

From what I have read, the cost to pick a pearl is somewhere in the $15-16 range. Your setting cost, though, will vary widely depending on what you choose. Ebay has some very inexpensive pearl cages that you can order ahead of time and bring with you, or Disney has a host of settings to pick from (from the more inexpensive sterling silver to $$$$$ for the more elaborate gold settings). Ebays offerings seem to be necklaces only, while Disney can set your pearl into a ring, earrings, necklace, etc.

I feel like I'm coming to the party late, but silly me I never really looked at the Happy Dance Forum.... silly me! :guilty:

So, here is our August Plan:

Arriving 8/19 (Me, DS11, DS9, DS7, DD7)

Our first 8 nights will be at SSR with my DB, DSIL & 3 DNs, as well as my Dad for his VERY FIRST VISIT!

I've also added 2 nights for just me and the kids at CR. They don't know about this (I'm going to surprise them!). It was a spur of the moment decision for me when the end of Aug discounts were announced. We've all always wanted to stay there, but with a family of 6 we've chosen villas or offsite. Since DH can't go on this trip, I thought it would be a great treat for the kids, ok and me too ;)

ADRs are in flux as I continue to stalk the ressie page, but these are the one's I'm *not* planning to tweak :lmao:

8/21 CP 8:05 (My Dad's Birthday Breakfast :cloud9:)
8/21 1900 4:40 (My Dad's Birthday Dinner :cloud9:)
8/24 Boma 5:50
8/28 CM 7:25

We're going 8/17-8/25, and staying at POR. It will be me, my DH and our daughter (she turns 5 a few days before we leave). I'm super psyched!!! :woohoo:

I have done both......This sounds horrible, but I like to pick them at the Pearl Factory in DTD because I can understand them! I feel so foolish trying to follow the Japanese lady's instructions when I pick one in Japan. The ceremony is much more fun in Japan though --- lots of fanfare!!

As for a setting, I have my first one in the Cinderella coach pearl cage you can find on ebay. I also had one set with just a rabbit ear hook and have it on a chain. As for the susequent ones, once I have enough for a bracelet or perhaps 10 or so for a necklace on a gold chain, I'll be stringing them. I love it! I will probably do it in Japan again this year! :rotfl:
