I am surprised how many negative reviews for the beach club rooms...for that price, that is a shame.......good reviews on the pools/grounds/lobbies but yuck! My mother would have a fit, if her room was "shabby" for those prices.......lol. I think I will stay with FD @ CSR, refurb was done..less dining options but we have a car and no little ones......

We usually stay @ BC Villas, but we stayed in a newly refurbished BC resort room a few years ago and it was beautiful. Really top-notch decor and bedding. Immaculately clean. I really don't put any stock in TA reviews for the most part, I find them to be overwhelmingly negative - or overly dramatic - for all hotels.

They had a refurb in late 2008 if I recall right.

I agree. Seems like some of the people that write those reviews set out to have a terrible vacation. However, I am glad that they have refurbed the boardwalk villas. I do think they waited until the last possible minute to do it. I can not wait to stay there in September and see what the new rooms look like!

We've stayed in BC rooms in 2008 (right after the refurb), 2009, and 2010. We never found them shabby at all! We are booked for 15 nights in July. It is our favorite resort.

BC has everything going for it - good rooms, great transportation, great pool and fantastic cms!

We were just there last August, and our room was in terrific shape. Loved the new decor (from 2008 renovations), even though I was not wowed by the photos before our trip. In person, the whole room is restful and lovely.

How old were the reviews on TA? Many could have been from before the refurb.

I hope more people read the bad reviews and stay away from the BC - more room for my family. It is our favorite of all of the Disney resorts.

I've found that a person will report a negative before they report a positive. Especially on TA. I read some of the reviews, and you know what? I have always read negative reviews about POR, but I've always found them unwarranted. So for our upcoming trip to BC, I've just ignored the TA reviews.

It seems like TA tends to have real complainers. Posters will often slam a particular resort and give it a very low grade for things that happen at every WDW resort: No free Wi-Fi, limited TV channels, slow or inconsistent bus service, and most of all: Room not being ready upon check-in (never mind that it's only 11am). These are WDW-wide and not the product of any one resort.

Most of the posters seem to be unfamiliar with WDW and perhaps a little research before hand would have prepared them for the peculiarities of the WDW resorts.:confused3

So, try to read between the lines and see what they're really complaining about. A dirty, run-down room is another story and although it could happen anywhere, would be concerning to me.

If I listened to everything on TA, there are several hotels/resorts I would not have stayed at, including the CSR which has become our favorite Disney resort. That being said, we are trying the AKL for a couple of nights this trip before the CSR, and next year our goal is to try the Beach Club a couple of nights before CSR. I believe a lot of those reviews on TA are business travelers and they complain more than praise.

I'm not even sure where you're getting all these bad reviews.

I just checked TA and out of the first 10 I think 8 were very positive!

There were just as many negative reviews of CSR.

I really think you need to take TA reviews with a grain of salt.

Most of the reviews of the beach club on tripadvisor are rather positive.

as far as the rooms goes I think the beach club villas rooms are in need of a refurb not at the beach club, they recently just had a renovation couple of years back.

those reviews were NOT that good...I am an avid TA user/reader and I can read between the lines..............it's been pretty on the money with my travel these past 7 years....some people complain about the little things, true, when I post a review, I really like doting on the positive and if something is a minor flaw, I do portray it's just minor or personal...there were many complaints on how dingy the BCV are....bad service, things needing in repaired, sheets being horrible..(I dont take that to mean too much but surprised how many commented on that!) $400 per night, you tend to want "nicer" things...but I guess the location and the food choices itself is what your paying for......we are going to stick with CSR, we added an extra day, staying 9 nights now, we have a car because we hate buses! I found that since our child is older now, screaming kids at the end of the night in such closed quarters just doesnt say "vacation" and my hubby would down right refuse to go if he had to take a bus............lol. whatever! We always rent a car now and we find the driving to be sooooooo quick, and I haven't hit traffic, ever, even out of the parks. I see the reviews for the non villas are better!! CSR 2 adults and one adult child, 10 days, DXDP, 10 day car rental full size car, R/T airfare thru SW non stop (early arrival 8:45am), 8 day hopper passes, tickets for 2 days of harry potter, Free Dining upgraded to DXDP for 10 days (ugh!), and Pittsburgh Giant Eagle Fuel perks (free gas promo) = grand total give or take a few $$ ....$4240....AKL and WL are almost $1000 more, we may upgrade, not sure yet....

thanks for the heads up though everyone.......the villas seem to be the rooms that are in disarray.....but who knows..............:confused3

Really?? I totally disagree. How much research do I have to do to get a clean room? I would think that is a no brainer? WDW doesn't have peculiarities , they simple are not up to the real world standards. sorry disney deluxes are Marriots at best. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Marriott just that disney wants to charge you 550 bucks a night for it.

Op, IMO TA people tend to be a bit more judgemental because they aren't absorbed in pixie dust as we are.

I love disney but the truth is that disney deluxes are not DELUXES!! We are paying top dollar simply for location. No way, no how can you put a 500 dollar a night disney hotel up against any real deluxe and come out with disney on top.

Now I'm reading a lot of the reviews on the villas and I think the reviews are justified. Dirty rooms? sorry guys, dirty rooms are totally unacceptable. You may give disney a free pass and say it could happen to anyone but I'll admit to be picky, when I walk into my hotel room. I want it brand spanking, sparkling clean.

So the problem is that Tripadvisor gets reviews from people who are looking at what you pay at disney and then comparing to what you would get in the real world.

I'm the opposite, I find that posters here on the Dis, tend to excuse any poor service disney gives. We are so high on pixie dust that no matter how horrible a room is we would say it was great.

If you dare to make an bad review you get flamed and usually just like the previous poster, you are told "if you had just done your research, you would know what to expect" What? I have to do research to expect a clean room? Seriously?? You have to do research to expect knowledgable, friendly staff?

I was commenting on the Beach Club Resort rooms - not BCV.

The OP never mentioned BCV in her first post - just BC.

To each their own - to me BC is so much nicer than any mod, but that's me.

I did see plenty of complaints about CSR on TA, but as I said I find so many "picky" complaints on TA that I would never base my decision about where to stay on TA alone.

I think it's nicer than the mods also. What I'm saying is that you have a different type of traveler on Trip advisor.

They are usually not comparing Disney vs. Disney. A lot of times they are comparing what the are paying for a disney deluxe (any where from a few hundred to 600 hundred a night) and then remembering what's out there at other vacation destinations.

If you are use to staying at say the Waldolf and then you have to deal with Disney conceriege, it can be disappointing. That sort of thing.

What I like about TA is that they do give the "cons" of a resort. While they may seem picky some times the little things can make a difference. No they won't ruin my vacation but if I know a resort has a small elevator or if they have thin walls, that helps me make a decision.

Eliza, I was not excusing Disney resorts, nor was I stating that research = clean room. I believe if you had read my sentence immediately following the one you bolded you would have seen that I clearly stated that a dirty room was another story and would be very concerning to me.

Opps sorry, I just did not understand what doing research and room quality had to do with one another. :confused3 That part confused me.

    Again sorry for the mistake.

I have found over years of using Trip Advisor that the reviews when taken together paint a very accurate picture of a hotel. One bad review taken alone means very little, but when you begin to see a pattern there is usaully and issue that needs to be resolved.

I find that Trip Advisor members don't hesitate to share good reviews as well as bad reviews. I would suggest that when reading a bad review, it never hurts to review several of that particular member's previous reviews to see if they fall under the category of hating everything.

I have been amazed how accurate these reviews have been regarding places that my family has traveled to all over the world. Spot on in most cases.

I stayed at the Beach Club for the very first time last summer. My room was fabulous! I do think the deluxe resorts are over-priced...but, I wanted to stay there and see what it was like. Other than the price, I loved everything about the resort...it was by far the best resort and room I have ever stayed in.
