Vacation off to Bad Start at Caribbean Beach

I looked at my receipt and we were in room 2503, it was so bad! Hope the OP was moved or at least maybe the smell has been resolved.
Just looked ours up and it was 2550, second floor water view in martinique . It was awful and seriously can't believe that that issue is ongoing in those buildings. They did a nice job on the room remodels but clearly didn't deal with whatever underlying mold, mildew issue they have. It really set our trip off to a lousy start too. I hope the original poster gets moved today!

Yep, it was so bad, I can't believe DH was to stubborn to move. It was beyond smoke though, something much worse. I am giving CBR another shot because we did love the resort as a whole but I won't put up with that smell again. Requesting the other preferred rooms, not Martinique

We stayed at CBR in June and had a similar problem at checkin. We got to the hotel at 8:30am. Hit the parks and then around 2 went to Walmart to get groceries and other items. Called the hotel on our way back(around 4:30) they said our room was not ready. I then asked what am I supposed to do with all of our groceries. They told them they would store them for us. At 6:30 we still did not have a room. At this point I am beyond upset. We finally get into our room at 7:30pm. We called to see about getting our luggage delivered (magical express) We were told that our luggage had just arrived at the hotel and would be up shortly. We did receive on free night and fast passes, however it was not the way we wanted to start our vacation.

No there are no smoking rooms at WDW. If the room reeks then report it otherwise they can hold you liable for the extra cleaning. Two weeks ago at SSR the people above us were smoking on their deck and we reported it to the front desk for fear the odor would drift into our room. CM said there is no smoking allowed on decks. Then we moved over to the AKL and saw a guy two doors down from us smoking and discarding his ashes over the railing onto the thatched roof. They got kicked out of the property. The man was very mad about getting escorted off the property.

AKL has all those cameras pointed at the balconies to protect the animals from human carelessness - so I expect once alerted AKL were able to find video/evidence of him flagrantly breaking the rules and eject him from the premises. Other resorts don't have the video system aimed at balconies so it's harder to prove & thus eject when some one is breaking rules like smoking on a balcony, the culprit can always claim it must have been from another room or whatever.

We actually had issues our one night at Pop before our main vacation. Basically they tried to put us in a room on the 6th floor (Pop is only 3 stories). Guy at the desk was nice, but obviously had next to no training as he did not know that the room he wanted us in did not exist (I had gotten the text and had already dropped the bags off, just needed the parking pass). Turns out he was bringing up the wrong reservation. Not a huge deal (as I said, the kid was nice), but just goes to this idea of how they are letting training/customer service slip. Hope things end up alright for you.

That is hilarious

I think the "smoking room" comment was an autocorrect.

If referring to my comment, it happened back in the days when there were smoking rooms. We arrived at CSR at 8:30am and asked for connecting rooms. They had them! Great! When we got to the rooms, they were smoking rooms. We were anxious to get to the parks and happy to get the connecting rooms so we agreed to take ionizers. It was awful.

To all those at CBR now, I hope you have a magical vacation and that your issues get resolved. This is a horrible way to start a vacation.

Like others I had a similar experience.
I would not recommend waiting until the next day. I complained to guest services the next two days after check-in and they did nothing. They sent a manager to inspect the room odor. The manager said there was no odor! My jaw probably hit the counter. Was she serious? They wouldn't do anything for me. Sorry to say but we will never be back to CBR. I should have written to guest services but it's probably too late now since my trip was in December 2015.

CBR use to be our favorite resort but after the last stay there it is no longer due to cigarette smoke getting into the room. People would smoke outside their room and the smoke would get into the rooms thru the AC unit and gap under the door. We now only stay at the deluxe resorts.
Exact same thing happened to us last fall at CBR. I was so annoyed with our room smelling like smoke every night from the people smoking outside their room right down from us. Luckily, that family checked out days before us so we didn't have to deal with it during our whole vacation.

I think all the rooms smell bad. The doors hardly ever get opened, and the AC units just recycle the air in the room. I wouldn't be surprised if the AC gets turned off when the rooms not used (creating the mildew).

I am so sorry you are going through this, sounds exactly like what happened to us. The smell never goes away!
It was terrible. Had to wash everything 3 times when we got home and still our luggage was ruined. I am not putting up with it this year if we have the same experience
The same thing happened to us recently with a rental car. We were stuck for 13 days. They covered it up with powder fresh deodorizer to get us to take delivery but hours and three states away later on it faded and we could tell it was smoke. The company refunded us the cost of what it would have been to charge for smoking cleanup (they didn't actually charge us for the prior smoker, just came up with that amount to be fair). Everything including our pillows and luggage smelled. Yuck. I will NEVER accept a smoking damaged item ever again. I am so sorry about the smoked in room.

When we checked into CBR last November we were given a gorgeous corner room facing the lake. I was SO excited. When we entered the room is reeked of smoke as well. I was devestated to start the vaca like that. Unfortunately, it only went downhill resort wise from there. Mouse keeping came and was shocked they sent us to that room saying he reported it as smoke filled and needed to be thoroughly cleaned. They sprayed, but we refused to take it. Finally got a different room, but they didn't tell magical express and our luggage was delivered that other room, which had another family in it. The manager had to go and ask to retrieve our bags since the family was being difficult about giving back our bags. Was a total disaster. Our new room was super far from everything, but we were told it was a lake view and despite paying preferred it was an "upgrade". Ok. Yeah no, we will never be back. That was just the tip of the iceberg.

Sixth floor, :lmao: thats funny.
BTW pop has 4 floors, not 3. :)

Sorry this happened to you. I can't imagine why the other family would be difficult about giving you your bags, though. Was anything missing? Or was the other family asleep, in the shower, not dressed or something when they cam to retrieve your bags, so they didn't want to be disturbed.

I'm not sure why they were difficult about it. We personally didn't ask, a staff member did (I figured a stranger not in uniform knocking on your hotel door would be weird so we asked for help after we were told ME delivered them to that room number). She said she had no luck and that she was going to go get the manager and they would get them back. They had luggage tags with our name on it, so again, no idea why the big issue. Nothing was missing, but then again our checked bags have nothing but clothing and groceries. All our valuables are in our carry on that we keep with us at all times. 40 minutes or so later the manager had them returned to our new room to us. But it ate up so much of our first day time and we didn't do anything we planned. Overall a disappointing start.

Whoops, typing too fast for my own good. But yeah, I snickered to myself when it was written on the map. Wish I would have grabbed it before he tore it up for the new one.

Wow, I couldn't imagine what I'd do if the staff told me the odor in my room is mold and mildew! I've only ever switched rooms once in my life and it was at Poly because the slider's lock was broken right off, but mold and mildew odors don't really set the tone for a magical trip. I hope OP was able to switch resorts and is having a great trip.:sunny:

Oh wow... i'm so so sorry for your bad experiences and I feel bad for anyone in this thread who had such horrible resort experiences. The smoke smell would be bad enough but mold/mildew.... that would trigger really bad allergies for me and I'm sure a lot of people, so that's nothing to mess around with. I would immediately stuff up and be sneezing. It's usually pretty obvious to me when there's that sort of issue in a building or home. I think everything that happened was unacceptable and I agree with others that check-in is at 3:00 pm and your room should be READY or shortly thereafter.

Check in at 3/4 pm means that is the earliest you should expect room ready, although it could very possibly be earlier... it might also be later. You can request the first available room, but that will supersede any other requests you made.

I would hope the OP could switch resorts. They are not going to move anybody from a large group, so they should move OP to a different resort (moderate or higher) if they can't give them anything suitable (a room in which someone has been smoking is not suitable).
