Chapter 16: We finally meet our favorite Disney family!
Day Three: September 13th, 2013

We got back to our room, and I have it noted that we changed? Or maybe Matt did... who knows. But I did put my new fun little Muppets friends on my MagicBand that I was totally rockin' even though I couldn't use it yet (MagicBands were only being tested at Beach Club and not Wilderness Lodge, but we still wore them anyway)... I wanted to feel like a cool kid I guess.

file_zps780a5c32.jpg

Matt obviously went with the Haunted Mansion print cover. It looked fabulous!

file_zps863cbf4a.jpg

I took a photo of our purchases that morning, as well.. including my Basin White shampoo/conditioners... and my beautiful baaaag after I took off the tissue paper wrapped around the tassels, and I put the tag on it, as well.

file_zps9a825413.jpg

Since the weather wasn't going to be bad, I decided it'd be a perfect day to bring my lovely new bag along with us to Downtown Disney!

We headed down to the bus stop to wait for a bus, where I modeled my bag like a total dork.

file_zps3063ae25.jpg

HEY GIRL HEEEYYYYY.

The bus showed up pretty quickly for DTD, and we hopped on.. and were blessed by the most glorious AC ever. It was REALLY hot out this day, so I was actually happy to be sitting on the bus, even if it decided to take 8 years to get there. It actually didn't take very long to get there, though I think we may have stopped at a place or two. I'm not sure! Mainly because I was too happy enjoying the air conditioning.

We finally arrived at DTD, and were very excited! We're big fans of DTD... and I have no idea why Matt has awkward arms in this photo, hahaha.

file_zpsfc74ea0e.jpg

Anyway, we knew through the grapevine (okay not really, we'd been chatting via Facebook chat) that Jenn (AKA FantasylandMom here on the DIS) was in DTD getting some food over at Wolfgang Puck's Express with her lovely family.

Let me just back up here for a second and explain how this was a BIG DEAL for us.

Jenn is one of those people who both Matt and I just click with. We have gotten along really well since we first started chatting here on the DIS, which evolved to Facebook and then Google chat, and yeah. We both just see her and her husband Brandon as really great friends, and her kids are just beyond precious. We've sent each other fun care packages, cards, etc... Normal things that really awesome friends do for each other...

EXCEPT we had never met in person.

It's weird, because for some reason I just wasn't that nervous to meet Jenn and her family! I guess maybe because I just knew we'd get along or something, I don't know. I feel like meeting someone from online is usually a weird/nerve-wracking thing, but with her, it wasn't at all.

Wait, no, I was a little nervous about the kids. I wasn't sure if they'd be super shy and want nothing to do with us, as kids sometimes can be. But then again, they seemed to love watching us in our past trip video, which made me think that maybe they'd be happy to see us.

Anyway, Matt and I made our way over to WPE and as we started walking up, I saw some little hands waving at us through the glass window, and spotted the whole family smiling and waving! It was SO cute and such a wonderful way to spot them.

We said hi really quickly, and they are the cutest family ever. The kids seemed really excited, which was also wonderful! Of course, since it was lunch time, WPE was bumpin', and we were separated by a little divider, plus we wanted to let them eat, so we told them we'd meet up with them later, as we were heading off to Earl of Sandwich for lunch.

It's always nice when you finally meet someone (or I guess in this case, the whole fam!) in person and everyone is just so excited to talk! We were definitely looking forward to hanging out with them more (and that we did!).

We walked into Earl of Sandwich and it was really BUSY in there. But the line was moving relatively quickly, as the girl at the register was cruising through getting everyone's orders. It was actually impressive watching her.

file_zps4c86ed4d.jpg

By the time we paid, our sandwiches were all ready for us to eat. We headed outside (inside had no tables since everyone wanted to avoid the heat), and found a table pretty easily.

Matt went with the Chipotle Chicken Avocado sandwich:

file_zpsea822b44.jpg

I went with one of my favorites, Earl's Club. I ALMOST went with the Thanksgiving, but the thought of it kind of made me nauseous. Something odd about eating that sandwich when it's 90 degrees outside, hahaha.

file_zps2f344f92.jpg

Our sandwiches were delicious, and we hung around for a few before Jenn and the family found us! We chatted for a few, then decided to head over to the pin store.

file_zpsc5fb9f0e.jpg

Jenn's daughters, Julia and Brynn, both were able to choose a pin, so we showed them all of the different choices in the store. Matt and I also picked up more of the Epcot and Haunted Mansion pins for ourselves, along with an Epcot 30 Figment pin, and the September Haunted Mansion poster.

Epic fail on my part, because I didn't get any photos of the poster or Epcot 30 one, wompwomp.

Anyway, the girls picked out their pins, and then we headed over to Once Upon A Toy, where the kids went and made Mr. Potato Heads.

file_zps282e793a.jpg

In the meantime, us adults caught up a bit and talked about how excited we were to finally meet and all that fun stuff, and heard all about their adventurous drive down (which you've probably seen in Jenn's TR if you're reading it, haha).

Before I forgot, I made SURE to get a photo with Jenn though. I'm notorious for meeting people and forgetting to get a photo with them, so now was the time! I must say, I really like this photo of us together! YAY FOR FINALLY MEETING WONDERFUL FRIENDS!

file_zps6c8d8c0f.jpg

After some Potato head makin', we stepped outside where people were blowing bubbles. And ya know what bubbles means? It means fun times, especially for Sawyer, who is the cutest little peanut in the land.

file_zps2663ab5d.jpg

I mean, look at those little Crocs. I just can't even..

After everyone came back from a quick potty break, Jenn and Brandon were planning on heading back to their resort and we had some plans for ice cream, so we said goodbye and told them we'd see them later on in the day over at Epcot!

Matt and I headed off for Ghirardelli, because we love that ice cream to a ridiculous degree. But I was sad to learn that they no longer have the Cookie Bottom Sundae, wompwomp. So I instead went with the Gold Rush, and Matt went with some sort of Butterscotch Sundae.

After we ordered, Matt had ninja-like table-finding skills and I heard "LOOKTHEREGO." and I darted to a table that was actually inside the store in the glorious AC.

file_zps992587a3.jpg

Interestingly enough, Ghirardelli also went the route of the one in Disneyland and now uses plastic cups for the ice cream, which was totally fine with me. I like having the option of taking it to-go if I want!

This was Matt's Butterscotch sundae:

file_zpsf118efe2.jpg

And my Gold Rush, which includes peanut butter, so yum.

file_zpsa160226b.jpg

I was a big fan of the Gold Rush! It wasn't as intense as the Cookie Bottom, so I was definitely happy with my choice.

We finished eating our sundaes (I'll maintain that they really do have the best ice cream, as much as I love my dear Beaches and Cream), we obviously needed to go take a walk through World of Disney!

file_zpsf64523c0.jpg

We didn't find anything though, just did some perusing since we knew we'd be back many more times.

We decided to head back towards the Marketplace bus area, and stopped by Art of Disney on our way out. They had this AMAZINGLY awesome Oswald statue that I figured Matt would really want, and he definitely thought it was neat, but wanted to see what else was out there. No surprise there, since Matt likes to really figure out exactly what he wants but won't make any early decisions during a trip.

We headed out of DTD and caught a bus back to Boardwalk. We even had the bus all to ourselves! We realized that it'd be way quicker to just get off at the Boardwalk and walk to Epcot than waiting for Yacht Club or Beach Club, since the DTD bus usually stops at BW first, or that was our thought anyway.

file_zps5c375027.jpg

Matt was happy about it, and so was I, YAY!

file_zpsca537011.jpg

We decided to open our blind box pins on the bus, because we're awesome like that.

Chapter 17: I had no idea 3 FOOT TALL Vinylmation exist.
Day Three: September 13th, 2013

I was actually pretty excited to check out the Boardwalk as I'd never been inside. We'd only walked past it during previous trips, though Matt had stayed there a few times growing up.

file_zps381cfa35.jpg

file_zps4d6f40af.jpg

I had seen photos, but the BW lobby definitely has a similar vibe to it as the Beach Club.

file_zpsc30140ba.jpg

file_zps18645cdc.jpg

I liked it there though! And I also loved that there were lots of little sitting areas that overlooked Crescent Lake, as well.

file_zpsc06eb1b1.jpg

I totally get why people get married over in this area for sure! I'd have a hard time deciding between the Wedding Pavilion and this area, honestly.

We started making our way towards Epcot, but I HAD to stop and take a photo of my love, the Beach Club and Stormalong Bay from across the lake...

file_zps709a095d.jpg

I have to admit, it felt really weird knowing we couldn't just walk over there later, back to our room. It felt natural to just walk right in that direction, especially from the Boardwalk/Epcot area. Yet it felt pretty natural taking a boat over from WL to Magic Kingdom. It was weird, haha.

Anyway, we made it to the lovely International Gateway, even though it was sweltering out. I am telling you, World Showcase is like the surface of the sun, but you know what else is? The bridge area by the Boardwalk, all the way to the International Gateway. There is NO place to walk in the shade, and the pavement is beyond hot. I was convinced while walking that I'd melted into a puddle and Matt couldn't find me.

That was one thing I was not liking about September. The heat made World Showcase so terribly hot that spending time there during the afternoons was nooot super fun. But the Frogg Toggs were coming in handy, so that was at least good.

So, prior to our trip, I'd registered to take part in the Reflections of Evil Vinylmation trading event that was happening on Sunday. You were given the option to pick up your registration on Thursday over at Coronado Springs, but I didn't partake in that because I wanted to be in the parks! The other option was to pick up your registration on either Friday or Saturday during the other event days in Epcot. I opted to get my stuff on Friday, and that's where we were headed!

file_zpsce53e881.jpg

This was located behind the HUGE gates you may or may not have noticed between England and Canada. There is a special event pavilion back there, called World ShowPlace.

As I walked up, there were CMs guarding the area and I told them I had to pick up my registration for Sunday. The CM commented to the other one to "escort us back" and make sure we didn't hang around the event... liiike I would try to? I don't know.

Friday was the "Club 13" event, which was both pin trading and Vinylmation trading, and had meet and greets with Villains, etc. I decided I only wanted to do Vinylmation trading only, which is why I didn't do Club 13. Plus, I wasn't really feeling like doing an event solo that soon into our trip, either (since Matt was not going to the event on Sunday with me).

Anyway, the CM took us back behind the gate over to the fancy pavilion, and he was super nice. We walked inside and I was extremely impressed with how things looked!

file_zps58addb22.jpg

file_zpsde2263f0.jpg

I walked up to the registration area where a woman got all of my paperwork, my badge for Sunday, and all of the Vinylmation I'd pre-ordered, as well, along with the free gift they gave away for the Sunday event... which was this adorable Mickey as Captain Hook and Pluto as Scar set:

file_zps8d2da840.jpg

I thought the event badges were pretty neat, too! It had my name on the bottom part, as well.

file_zpse8badd12.jpg

After I grabbed all of my stuff, we decided to walk over to this display area that had a bunch of really cool custom Vinylmation that artists had made (and we assumed it was okay for us to check out since it was in the registration area, not inside the event). There were some really impressive pieces!

file_zps9930fb30.jpg

file_zpscb5e9502.jpg

This last one was insane though. It was a 3 FOOT TALL Vinylmation done by Noah, and the box was sculpted by Javier Soto.

file_zpsf26957a2.jpg

It was impressive. While I was staring at it, a man came over and started talking to us. He actually worked in Vinylmation, and he was the friendliest and nicest guy ever, but not in a fake way. I could tell that even Matt was enjoying talking to him, which doesn't normally happen when it's all about Vinylmation stuff, haha.

We ended up talking just about Disney World in general and he asked us if we were going to the Villains event that night. We told him we were planning on it, and he mentioned that the Villains that would be appearing at Hollywood Studios were apparently at that Club 13 event. Kind of crazy, especially since Oogie Boogie was out and about. Anyway, we finished chatting with him and headed out, and I told him I'd hopefully see him again on Sunday!

After leaving the event area, we were both jonesin' for some coffee from Starcbucks. Or well, cold refreshments, as Matt got coffee while I stuck with a black tea lemonade.

We left Starbucks and decided to go sit outside of Innoventions. It was kind of the perfect spot because it was out of the sun and every once in a while you'd get a blast of AC from Innoventions, haha.

file_zps0684547e.jpg

Unfortunately, the person at Starbucks thought I was a dude (not really) and spelled my name incorrectly... It happens a lot, which I don't understand. But at least I got a Mickey head!

file_zpsd7ad568d.jpg

It was actually really nice to just sit and enjoy our drinks for a while and people watch. I don't do enough of that when I'm in Disney World.

We finished up and decided to go into Mousegear for a bit.

file_zpsed315d82.jpg

I told Matt he would make an awesome sheriff. There's a snake in my boot!

We didn't buy anything (shocking considering this is Mousegear we are talking about here!), and since it was close enough to our ADR time, we figured we'd walk over and check in early.

Off to World Showcase we went!

file_zps24077553.jpg

file_zps6ddd96c3.jpg

On our way over, we stopped by the Karamel Kuche to pick up our friend Danni a caramel apple oatmeal cookie, since she'd never had one before and we thought she'd enjoy one.

file_zps47d6b8dc.jpg

Oh, and you can see in that photo the backpack I'd mentioned that was super awesome. It's small but could fit so much in it and it never really got too heavy!

Karamel Kuche, the place that smells like Heaven and delightfulness.

file_zpscec9e3de.jpg

file_zpsc8b40468.jpg

Next, we eat dinner at my favorite place, I hear about an interesting contest, we hang out with Jenn and the family, and begin our interesting evening of getting to Hollywood Studios.

Continued in next post

How awesome to meet another DIS'er. You always know you have something in common to start!

The Gold Rush is always my Sundae of choice! I noticed in others pictures they had gone to plastic! At first I thought they were pictures from DL!

Those vinyls are HUGE!

The World Showplace is where they do a bunch of stuff for the F&W Festival as well. It's HUGE!!

Yep, totally sure that the photos of the Gold Rush sundae and the caramel apple cookie caused me to gain 3lbs.

You have such self-restraint in stores. I always tell myself we'll get ideas and do shopping at the end but then I walk in a store and I'm like "OMGWANTNEEDNOW".

I'm way behind in my comment here, so I'll have to back track a little bit!

First, I finally watched your trip video and I have one serious question- why are you not producing Disney Parks commercials?! Seriously, Dani! The music was great and the video seriously made me wish I was there with you guys!

I think it was a solid decision to go to MK and grab that bag! It's seriously adorable! I love merch with the haunted mansion print on it because its not in your face Disney, and usually only serious park fans recognize it. It's almost like a little secret between all of us :rotfl2:

Isn't the Poly gorgeous!? I walked through for the first time in January and now I see why that place has such a following. All the foliage is awesome!

I love that the woman totally called you guys out, so to speak! My sister and I always talk about how we're sure we'd recognize some of the people we follow off DIS but don't know if we're brave enough to approach someone, haha!

Earl of Sandwich looks 100% delicious!

So glad you guys finally got to meet in person! Seems like a lot of fun!

Thanks for all the Boardwalk pics! We're staying at the villas there for the first time in February and are really excited! I love seeing pictures from a guest's perspective!

I'm really pumped to hear about your experience in Hollywood Studios. I've heard that night was sheer craziness so I'm really interested to see what you guys thought!

Ooh I really like the MB covers Dani. Perfect if you get bored of the colour and want to mix it up.

OK this is just so cool. First, I love how you are finally meeting in person for the first time. And in Disney! If that's not magical, I don't know what is. I remember reading about one of those care packages in the old TR. :goodvibes

And, it wasn't that long ago that I read about this initial encounter, but from Jenn's perspective. Now we get "the rest of the story", lol.

I have ALWAYS wanted to see behind those big gates. I didn't know your event took place back there. I can't wait to hear about it.

I honestly can't wait until your Villains night at HS. I've heard so many horror stories (no pun intended... well maybe a little).

Ugh I am starving, and seeing your EoS and ice cream pictures are killing me.

I wish I got that muscle memory towards a resort as my home! That's so awesome! My instinct to go home while at Disney is to go towards the parking lot...

Just let me tell you, I savored every last bite of that cookie. It was perfect and guarded with my life from Johnny. Just kidding. I shared. I let him have the crumbs.

HAVE FUN IN DL THIS WEEK!
I'm so happy y'all get to go unwind after a stressful couple of weeks!

I'm just now joining in and am only a couple posts in but MAN I am loving your TR! Your photos are so lovely! Apologies if you've already answered this, but what kind of camera do you use?
The photos from your first night at MK at dusk are making my heart jump. I'm so homesick!! Excited to get caught up on the rest of your TR!

We adore you people, DUH! It was so exciting to meet you, of course, but sort of surreal. I mean, I *knew* we'd never met in person, but it totally felt like we'd known you for years and years. It's like those friends you don't see for a long time and then pick up right where you left off...except we hadn't seen each other EVER! Does that make any sense? You had nothing to worry about with my kids. In general, they don't take too well to strangers, but I think they had the same feeling that they already knew you. You weren't strangers. You'd sent them gifts! Pictures you colored are hanging in their bedrooms! Obviously you were friends. The only thing I was really nervous about is whether or not you'd be able to understand us through our thick Southern accents, and whether or not you'd realize that just because we speak slowly doesn't mean we think slowly:thumbsup2. I guess talking for so many months before that helped, since you knew that we're just big geeks, not rednecks.

I just love the way you love our kids. I have so many pictures of you guys with them, and you're listening to them. Really listening. Most people just brush kids off as just kids, but you guys realized that they're little people and made an effort to hear what they were saying...even if it always started with the repetitive, "Well, you know what?" :goodvibes

And Sawyer's Crocs. I think they're the cutest, too! He has so many pairs of them that he picked out himself! And I just think that's adorable, too!

Didn't you have some weirdo on the bus ride over to DTD that day? It seems like I remember that there was some sort of awkwardness, but I can't remember the story behind it.

Uh, yeah. Thanksgiving is not supposed to happen in 90 degree weather. Good choice in skipping that.

Sundaes! I kept meaning to go back and get one. Never happened. Although you know we got plenty of ice cream later on in the trip;).

Boardwalk does seem to have that same Beach Club vibe...except it has a creepy clown slide, so it's a no-go for us.

It's fun to find out what you were doing while we were off doing our thing. Can't wait for the next update!!

It's official I have read every trip report you have written lol just finished you Jan 2012 trip report Norway - more like no way and I loved it !! I realise this might make me sound slightly obsessed by your trip reports but I am ok with that :rotfl: can't wait to hear more about this trip too. I love school bread almost as much as you by the way :) and I have picked up so many must dos for my next trip from your reports like raglan road, earl of sandwich and looking for details in the queue of haunted mansion !

The heat of September is starting to worry me a bit. My DH and I were planning on a 20th anniversary trip next Sept and I'm a little worried my husband might melt. He's a native Seattlite and likes his mild PNW temperatures. I kind of miss my seasons but I've never really done crazy hot humidity.

So much fun to hear about your meetup, (and Jenn, if you happen to see this, I never thought of you with a thick accent but of course you would. I'm going to read your TR with a new voice in my head!).

Have a great time in DL, sounds like you could really use the break. Glad things have settled down enough that you can go without being worried. I was actually pricing tickets to DL next May (yes, I'm planning 2 trips at the same time, don't you?!) and can't believe it's only $40 cheaper to fly to DL than DW :confused3. Crazy.

Enjoy, and then get back and write some more!! (Pretty please....)

So much fun to hear about your meetup, (and Jenn, if you happen to see this, I never thought of you with a thick accent but of course you would. I'm going to read your TR with a new voice in my head!).

Hahaha! Well, hopefully mine is more Southern Belle than Redneck :rotfl2:. But yes, definitely a drawl. I sort of take it as a compliment that my writing doesn't make you think of someone stereotypically Southern; we aren't portrayed as being very intelligent down here, though that's definitely an incorrect assumption (or at least some of the time;) ).

Love, love, loving this report!!! :surfweb:
I finally got to check out your video and I am hooked! Great songs and great clips! How about that person photobombing your video on the TTA!!!!! And Matt discovering he doesn't like afternoon parades???? It was like watching a Will Farrel skit...:worship:
I must say, you two are so adorable together and having such a blast! I need a Disney crazed guy! Haha, I'll be ok, I have Disney crazed teens! :cool1::cool1::cool1:
Waiting eagerly for the next update...:badpc:

Ahh that Haunted Mansion bag, I want it!!! It's so perfect!

It's so funny reading about other people named Jenn and Brandon because...well, I'm Jen and my DH is Brandon haha! I'm glad there are more of us out there! :thumbsup2 So cool that you finally got to meet up with them!

I love the Boardwalk, I would love to stay there someday, but I just don't like the look of the rooms of the villas, I'd want to stay in a regular room and they're just so expensive! Stupid Disney and their stupid deluxe prices.

I am still shocked that Starbucks is in EPCOT!!! That's probably going to be my first stop when I get there, I mean, what's better than Starbucks in my favorite park?

Hey everyone!

I know I just posted an update a few days ago (and if you haven't read it, go do that now because it's a goodie), but I just wanted to let you know that we are leaving for Disneyland TOMORROW MORNING!! :yay:

It definitely snuck up on us after our crappy/stressful week last week, and I feel slightly overwhelmed because we have stuff we need to get done before we leave, last minute packing, etc... but in the end, we'll be in Disneyland at this time tomorrow for a longer time that we were last year, SO HOORAY!

We'll be staying at the Villas at Grand Californian for 4 nights, and we're both BEYOND excited that we'll get to experience Disneyland while staying on-property at such a beautiful resort.

Obviously, I won't be responding to TR comments until we're back, and same with updates, you'll have to hang tight and wait until next week.

But don't worry, I have lots of updates already written and waiting to be posted, so I won't make you wait too long! :goodvibes

BUT like I mentioned before, if you really want to see what we're up to in Disneyland, you can follow me on twitter (dani_maroo) or instagram (dmags), as I'm sure I'll be posting lots of photos/tweets while we're there.

So with that, I will talk to you guys next week because...

WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYLAAAAAND.

Weeeeee! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:
