I was about to go and buy some thermals for us this weekend, however I mentioned it in passing to a mum at school who went in early January 2004 when it was below freezing and snow everywhere. So it was cold then LOL!!! :cold: She said that she bought thermals for everyone and they found them too hot and itchy and thinks we would be better to just wear extra layers and not waste our money. I was only buying thermals vests for us girls, I thought we could wear opaque tights under our jeans to give us an extra layer, however I do not imagine Bryan will want to wear tights :earsboy: so was going to buy him some thermal leggings? I'd better not show him this thread, imagine what it would do to his streetcred at work, all this talk about him in tights and leggings! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So advice please from all of you who have been in the winter, is it thermals or not? Remember, we are soft southerners, we do not get cold winters in Bournemouth!

Coldest I've encountered at DLP was -2 but I'm with Bryan on no tights
Lots of layers is the way to go. Gives you extra padding when you slip :teeth:

I've just bought my DS thermal vests from M&S for school ( he hates wearing a coat and looses all his tops) He thinks they are superb and very cozy ! They certainly keep him warm - how effective they will be in DLP in December remains to be seen. He certainly doesn't find them itchy ( believe me I would know if he did ) I guess it may depend on the make and exactly what materials they are made of. Layers is a good idea but I guess if you find the thermals to hot you could leave them off. I don't know - tricky one

I got thermals last December Elaine - Damart top of the range - and we wore so many layers of clothes that we looked like Michelin men (well, I do every day but even skinny Rhiannon was much rounder than usual!!! :rotfl: ) and we were still absolutely freezing!!!!! And we are semi-hardened Midlanders!!! Bet that makes you feel better!!! :rotfl2:

Thanks for that Di !:teeth: :rotfl:

Maybe we should pray for a heat wave :worship:

When it is that cold how to you go about keeping warm in the park ?
I'm just thinking DH may spend the entire time in the SL

Hi Dee! I'm sorry if I sounded a bit callous earlier as I'd forgotten that your DH has health problems in the cold. However it really is that cold. I think the problem is that normally when it's very cold we don't spend hours wandering about outdoors whereas you do spend a considerable part of each day outside at the parks. We used to pop into the Cable Car bakeshop or Pizzeria Bella Notte etc for hot chocolate though I'm not sure how healthy it actually is to go from cold to hot to cold again repeatedly. There are also stalls selling hot soup. Pirates of the Caribbean is a lovely warm ride too and it's always warm in the shops (good excuse!!!) The worst part I think was hanging around waiting for parades or to grab a good spot for the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony where you have to stake out your "territory" about an hour before - maybe your hubby could wait indoors while you and DS save a good place and then join you shortly before it starts so he's not exposed to the cold for long periods. I don't really know what else to advise you but certainly thermals and lots of layers will help to a certain extent and perhaps try to choose indoor rides if it's really cold.

Hi All

You know you may be lucky and the weather not be too bad - however the coldest day when we were there was -8C I had never felt cold like it..........even though I come from the inclement north, its a different kind of cold - very dry and biting not like island cold [storms, gales, wet and cold!!!] We used lots of layers and ended up staying quite warm, but I would have thought thermals would be much better, hopefully you would be able to move more freely anyway - I'm with Di on the like Michelin men scenario, we were the same.

Best thing is the scenery it is really beautiful when its all frozen over!

PS Auchan has lots of cheap layers including lovely big fluffy boots for around £10.

PPS My kids have microwave things that go in their pockets and gloves and stay warm for a couple of hours - I'll try and remember the name of them!

I would recommend going to a ski wear specialist shop - we got DD thermals from one last year and she complained that her legs were too hot.

The first time we went was middle of December and it was bitter, although the cold bothered myself and DH more than the children - they just "got on with it". That's the main reason why since we've gone in November, it was just nowhere near as cold.

My family are going in January and I've been looking at thermal clothing. M & S do some very nice stuff, and as another poster said it is silky rather than wooly. Thermal socks and gloves are a must and I will be looking in outdoor shops for those. I'm sure extra layers are just as good - they will trap the warmth and keep out chilling winds, I just don't like the bundled up feeling.

On a holiday at Pontins in Caister when DS and DD were toddlers, I remember wearing everything I had with me at once because I was so cold - and that was in June! I'm not exactly cut out for the outdoor life.

I'd love to know where to get the little microwave pack things - but will I be able to use them at DLP? Hopefully lots of hot chocolate will also help!

Regards
Rosie

Hi Rosie,

I can't find the original details - I think our kids microwave warmers came from a place called field and trek, but I have found these which are similar from a site called physioroom.com

If I remember correctly there was a microwave for general use at Hotel Cheyenne in the breakfast area, and I know you have your own microwave in Davy Crockett's - otherwise I'm sure a helpful cast member would oblige.

Hey Bonhoga and Di - thanks!

I will be putting a warming pad on my Xmas list and hope that I can use it at DLP. Hopefully I'll be having so much fun I'll forget to be cold.:sunny:

Regards
Rosie

Thanks for all your advice!:sunny:

That's it then, its got to be thermals. And I guess the Tshirt-style vests would be better than the vest-style vests. Can't believe I have just written that LOL but I am sure you know what I mean.:rotfl2:

Hi all

I've just today bought some cool handwarmers in M & S. They are shaped like little hot water bottles and there is a small silver disc in them that you press, this hardens the pack and heats it for ages, then you can press it again to re-activate it. It cost 5 Euro but then I spotted a twin pack in the gents gift department and that was 6 euro for two. Great idea, bought them for my trip to DLRP in late November. My daughter and mum are coming and they are always cold! And we do wear thermals too...wouldnt be without them! :cool1:

Was that in Marks and Sparks? I'll have to have a look myself. Not going until next year but I have now started a holiday box and I'm putting all kinds of bits and bobs into it.

I wish they would bring out something similar for feet and ears - they're the bits I suffer with most in the cold.

Well we went to M&S today and bought our thermals. Makes a change buying thermals for a holiday, usually its new tops and cossies! :rotfl2:

Meant to look out for those hand warmer thingies but forgot. :guilty: Luckily M&S is only a stones throw from our house so will pop over there next week.

Thermals it is then !

The M&S handwarmers sound good too. I wonder if we can get them in the UK
