The Year of the Mouse! A SURPRISE trip, with another one in the making! COMPLETE 8/11

So jealous you can make the drive in ten hours. Hopping in a car and being in Disney in the early afternoon sounds like a dream.

I had not idea POFQ was so compact. Sounds like there really isn't a bad room location.

Can't wait to read all about more of your adventures.

Following along, hoping this turns in to a TR too since the trip past! :)

My DH is the same way he likes Disney and loves going but he also likes to go other places too!

Reading along! We were there at the same time.
It was sooo hot this time of year!

How exciting! Can't wait to read more. Your girls are adorable. I can't believe you kept the secret as long as you did! I would be bursting to tell. I'm glad your ride was easy. It takes us 17 hours plus stops and it is rough. Can't wait to see your BOG pictures!
OMG 17 hours, that sounds brutal! We feel very luck to make it in 10.5. It really isn't bad.

Just joined in and looking forward to your report. I am staying at POFQ for the first time this fall.
We LOVED POFQ, you don't be disappointed!

POFQ was awesome, you can't go wrong!

DH loves Disney, even though he hasn't admitted it! We will try something new next year though.

Following along! We're staying at PORS in August!
We loved Riverside when we stayed there last March as well!

Day 1: Heading to Magic Kingdom!

After we settled down in our resort, we headed to the bus depot. We were happy to see a MK bus waiting on us. We hopped on and it was a short ride to the MK! The bus wasn't crowded at all, as expected during the middle of the day.

It wasn't long before we were hearing the wonderful Welcome to Magic Kingdom song!
I figured we were taking a change getting to MK at 3:30. I was expecting that we wouldn't get to to much other than the 3 FPs I had scheduled. I was surprised to find minimal waits for a few things in Fantasyland. So we headed over and jumped on Under the Sea!

I really love the queche for this ride. Especially since it was so hot outside, it's so nice and cool.

Dumbo was next! I really love the "new" Dumbo. We were standing in front of a lady who asked me where Magic Kingdom was. I was like. :worship:I felt very sorry for her if that was how her day was going....

Next up was our FP for 7 Dwarves Mine Train! This was our first ride and we LOVED it! It wasn't as short as I was expecting. The girls especially loved the little house at the end.

Next up: The long awaited dinner at:

Loving your report! No better way to start Disney than with MK!

Excited to hear about your BOG dinner - we LOVED it in January!

Soo excited to hear about your BOG dinner... I wish I could get an ADR there...sigh. Your kids look so happy in all those pics!! Glad they liked the mine train. Also, that's great that you ended up having time for more rides than just your FP+. I wonder sometimes if eventually, once everyone gets used to the whole FP+ thing...with people having reduced expectations of what they can get done...maybe people will be happier because if they get in any "bonus" rides that's just gravy...who knows. I'm glad it worked out well for you!!

Joining! This TR is great! We are staying at POR in September so I'm very interested in your TR. your daughters are sweeties and o so cute! This is going to be a fun read!

Love all your MK pictures. Your family is adorable.

Can't believe how much you're getting done that late in the afternoon.

Looking forward to BoG.

I agree! No matter how hard I try, I can't stay from MK on arrival day. It's just not right!

Yes, FP+ can be a little deceiving sometimes. I don't know how those who don't plan ahead of time get anything done. There are pros and cons for sure.

Great start at Magic Kingdom. Can't wait to hear what you thought of dinner!

We LOVED it! Can't wait to go back!

You will LOVE POR, we thought it was just beautiful. Can't beat the landscaping. My girls loved the pools as well.

Thank you! We were very happy with what we got done as well!

Day 1: Part 2: Dinner at Be Our Guest!

I’ll admit that I was not one that immediately jumped on the BOG bandwagon when the restaurant first opened. The menu looked good, but I didn’t understand all the fuss. I didn’t even try for an ADR during our March 2014 trip. Nor did I try for a FP for lunch. It wasn’t until I had a friend post some photos and a video on FB that made me second guess my decision. So I bit the bullet and began stalking the website for a dinner reservation (lunch didn’t appeal to me) for our April trip. Surprisingly, I was able to get one for our first night within about 2 weeks, YES!

We checked in at 5:30 for our 5:50 reservation. We were given a pager and it went off pretty quickly. We were escorted inside the gate and we waited. And waited. Other people came inside the gate and were brought inside. Still we waited. So I asked, they said we would be called and to wait. So we waited. For about 30 minutes. I was thinking maybe our pager wasn’t supposed to go off? I was confused. Eventually we were seated.

We had a nice spacious table in the Ballroom. It was absolutely beautiful! Our waitress was sweet as could be and I was delighted to see they had sweet and low. I love iced tea and didn’t realize that most of Disney World didn’t have sweet and low, my sweetener of choice. I had slipped some packet in my purse, but didn’t need them here! DH started with a diet coke, DD9 had a root beer and DD5 had milk. We had some delicious rolls and butter, which I forgot to get a photo of. Sorry!

At this point we heard some loud thunder, and out walked the Beast! He was HUGE!

Before long, our entrees came out.

Allie went with the grilled fish, which she loved.

Kate chose the steak, which she also devoured!

DH had the braised pork and I managed to sneak a bite. It was very tender and full of flavor. He really enjoyed it and cleaned his plate.

I had the steak and asked for the baked macaroni and cheese. I’m sure glad I did, because that mac and cheese was AMAZING! I also enjoyed the steak and green beans. It was about this time that I started slapping myself for not eating here sooner.
(Grilled Strip Steak - with garlic-herb butter and pommes frites)

After we finished, our waitress brought around the dessert cart. We were on the dining plan and she said we could all pick a dessert from the cart. I was relieved to hear this because I didn’t think the girls would want a fruit cup!

Both DDs chose the chocolate cupcake. It was very very rich. They picked at it, but didn’t finish it. I’m not sure if it was because they were full or if it was because it was really that rich…
(Triple Chocolate Cupcake - chocolate sponge cake, chocolate mousse filling, and chocolate ganache)

DH and I both chose the Grey Stuff. I will admit that I’m not a big dessert fan. If we weren’t on the dining plan, I probably wouldn’t have ordered anything. However, I absolutely LOVED this dessert! The crust was yummy and the mousse was light.
(The "Grey Stuff"- chocolate spongecake topped with Lumiere's special "grey stuff")

Day 1, Part 2 continued: Be Our Guest Dinner!
We finished up and our waitress took a family photo for us. She then encouraged us to check out the rest of the castle.

We didn’t care for the West Wing, it was very dark. The girls made a comment that it was also scary. I’m glad we weren’t seated in there!

The Rose Gallery was beautiful, and mostly empty. Again, Disney you confuse me. For such a hard to get ADR, why were there so many empty seats??

10410456_10153264513612834_7500030715181919123_n.jpg

Then we jumped in line to meet the Beast! He was lovely (as lovely as a tall, hairy animal that doesn’t talk can be) and we got some nice photos.

My final thoughts on Be Our Guest dinner--we absolutely LOVED it. Loved it. The food was delicious, the atmosphere in the castle can't be beat and we even go to meet The Beast!

Unfortunately I was unable to get an ADR at 180 days out for our October trip. I'm seriously bummed. We have a party of 10 and I know that will make it more difficult. I have signed up with DisneyDiningBuddy and I'm committed to stalking the website until then. Fingers crossed!

Up next: Finishing off the night at Magic Kingdom and a late night swim and snack!

October Trip Update!
I named this trip report "The Year of the Mouse" because we are heading back in October! This is extra special for us, I never thought we would get to go twice in one year!
Last March we started talking about taking our DD for her 10th birthday. We have been planning since then. The April trip was kind of thrown in because I convinced DH that I couldn't wait 18 months to get back!

Anyway, our oldest DD will turn 10 on October 29th. We are flying out on October 23rd and staying for 8 nights. My parents and niece will be joining us, as well as my in-laws and sister-in-law.
My in-laws own a timeshare through RCI and were trying to trade into DVC and get us 2 2 bedroom villas. We have not been matched with anything as of this past week, so we went ahead and booked 2 2 bedroom villas at Saratoga Springs with free dining. This was such a fiasco, I can't even begin to explain it. I appreciate their offer, but it was beginning to make it sooo complicated and I wanted to get something with free dining if we were able to.

The other wrench in the plan--free dining doesn't start until October 25th. So we are going to stay someplace else those first 2 nights, no idea where yet. Possibly French Quarter again since it's so small and we enjoyed it so much.

I have most of our ADRs nailed down:

Saturday, October 24th:
  • Kona for breakfast (new for us)
  • The Plaza for dinner (new for us)
Sunday, October 25th:
  • Via Napoli for lunch
Monday, October 26th:
  • Rainforest Café for lunch
Tuesday, October 27th:
  • Chef Mickey's for breakfast, as requested by the birthday girl (new for us)
  • Captains Grill for dinner (new for us)
Wednesday, October 28th:
  • 'Ohana for dinner (or BOG if I can get it)
Thursday, October 29th:
  • BOG at 2:25 (so torn on this one). This is our DDs birthday and we are doing MNSSHP that night. Still not sure what to do with the day.
Friday, October 30th:
  • 'Ohana for dinner (or BOG if I can get it)
I have the 2 "Ohana dinners because I'm hoping for BOG one of those nights. Wednesday night is EMHs at MK so BOG would be perfect. I'm hopeful!

Also thinking of adding the Hoop Dee Do Revue somewhere. And may drop Captains Grill if I can get the Hollywood Brown Derby Fantasmic Package for that night.

Any suggestions, tips? I'm still not 100% sold on all of these plans.

I'm having a problem quoting post this morning but you BOG dinner looked lovely!

I had the same issue why is the room half empty if you can't even get a reservation?!?!? Hire more waiters! I just do not understand!!!

Twice in one year this girl is jealous in a good way!

I'm so glad you loved BOG! It was one of our favs last trip.

We're just like you this year - getting to go twice! You'll be just a couple weeks behind us - getting close!!

You asked about Hoop Dee Doo...I would say do it. We had two adults last trip and my fiance wasn't thrilled with it but I like it and I know kids LOVE it. I would say give it a try. If you do a search on the boards there are so many people that love it I don't think you can go wrong!

Your BoG pics are great. So glad you all enjoyed it and it sounds like you have a lot more food and fun coming up in October

Isn't that frustrating! Ugh, and I know that as I stalk the website DAILY--there will be more empty seats that I would happily fill!

Yes, can't wait for October!!!

Day 1, Part 3: More Magic Kingdom!

After our delicious dinner, it was time to finish off the night with some rides! Splash Mountain was down for refurb during our March 2014 trip, so this would be Kate's first time riding it and she was sooo excited!

Needless to say, she loved it!

When we got off, we noticed there was only a 10 minute wait, probably because everyone was getting ready for the MSEP, so we got back in line!

One of my favorite photos of the trip! I was feeling so blessed and soooo happy to be back at the most Magical Place on Earth!

After that we hit up BTMRR, a favorite from our previous trip. Loved it as expected!

Unfortunately, we were sooo tired by this point. DH had been up since 2:30 am and had just a short nap. The girls were starting to go downhill as well. I was very much satisfied with everything we had accomplished in such a short time. We decided to head back to the room.

DH headed to shower and the girls talked me into a quick swim. The pool closes at 9:00, which I thought was kind of early and surprised me a little. By this time it was close to 8:40, but we hopped in for a minute anyway.

I was very impressed with the lifeguards, they were were diligent and I felt like they took their job very seriously. My only complaint about this pool was that chairs were non-existent near the big pool slide. There was no place to sit and watch your child on the slide. The pool was otherwise very nice and the girls enjoyed it immensely.

They enjoyed their short swim!

After that, we decided that we needed a snack. The food court was open until midnight, which was awesome! We really loved this food court. Even though it was busy, it moved pretty fast. And they seemed to have a good amount of choices.

The girls both chose an ice cream cone!

I opted for an order of their signature snack, beignets! Unfortuantely, I didn't get a photo for some reason. They were pretty good. It wouldn't be the first time we would enjoy them on this trip!

We turned in for the night after baths and a little Disney tv!

Next up: Animal Kingdom, lunch at Rainforest Cafe and EPCOT!
