The ultimate split-stay thread

I have a question on split stays with the magical extras attached to the package part of our stay. We want to use the DisneyQuest vouchers on the day our package stay starts (the date printed on our coupon vouchers). But we won't necessarily have checked in to that package resort yet that day. I read they scan the magic band to turn the voucher into a ticket for DisneyQuest. Will this be a problem?

Also, since I made the reservation, everything is under my name, but I'm not going to do DisneyQuest. As long as my husband and son are on the package reservation, do I need to walk all the way down to DisneyQuest to activate the voucher? Or can I stay on the other side of DTD and shop with my daughter?

Thanks for any guidance.

Would it be a good idea to take a cab, with our bags, to the BC, check in and then head off to AK? I don't think we will make rope drop but could do close to 9 am.

In my experience, if you want to make sure you get your requests, it's always a good idea to check in early. I'd probably cab it over if you don't mind spending the $20 or so for one just because I think it's simpler with moving around and trying to get to AK by 9. :)

1. Can you link reservations that are split up in this manner?
2. If so, can you use just one set of MB's for both stays? I really think multiple magic bands would just confuse people (mainly my parents, who will be traveling with us)
3. Assuming you can link these reservations, are my FP+ and/or ADR reservation windows determined by the first stay date (which is only 8 days prior to the second stay date) or the later one? Notably, this would put a couple, but not all, of my WDW stay days more than 14 days after the first check-in date.
4. Assuming I could book my FP+ based on the earlier check-in date, how unethical would it be for me to do so?

1. What exactly do you mean by link?
2. Yes, you can use one set of MBs. You will be eligible for two (unless something changes with the system), but if you don't customize the second set, they will not ship them to you.
3. I have not had an experience with a gap in my reservation to be able to speak knowledgeably about the subject, so if anyone has, please feel free to chime in. But it will go one of two ways when you call: Your ADR date would begin on the first date of the first reservation and go out +10, so you'd be able to make them for the first day of your first reservation, and then just the beginning portion of your second stay since the cruise eats up most of the 10 days. OR, the CM will notice that you have a gap with no on-site reservation, and only allow you to make a reservation for the first day of your stay and then have you call back on 180 days before the date of the second reservation. I think the latter is what will happen, if I had to guess, unless you mention you're doing a Disney cruise and she/he feels that's "on-site-ish" and good enough to override the system. Even if you have to make your ADRs at 180 days from the start of the second reservation, I see no reason to worry--I'm sure you'll get what you want, or will eventually get what you want if you keep checking religiously for new openings.
4. I, personally, so no ethical reason not to book as many FP days as you're allowed. Why not if you're actually staying on property and plan to go to the park?

I haven't done a MYW package since MBs were implemented so I do not know for sure (again, if anyone has any actual experience, please chime in!), but if they are a part of your MB and activated by your MB (and not by voucher alone), you will need to check into the resort first to activate the package, just as you need to for tickets and dining.

If you have checked into the hotel and the reservation and its entitlements are active, your husband will not need you to go into DisneyQuest. :-)

I booked our first split stay and it is a complete surprise for my family. They think we will be staying at CBR for our entire trip June 1-10. I received an unexpected bonus from work and upgraded the last 3 nights to AKL club level. Because this trip is a graduation present for mutt daughter I splurged and booked a private driver for the transfer. Thought it would be more fun then a taxi :)

I don't plan on telling them anything until the night before the move but can't decide if I will tell them where or just that we are moving? What do you all think? The car and club level will be a surprise should the location be too or do I give them a night to be excited about it too?

Great info! I think I have my husband convinced of a split-stay (and have already changed resorts too-need to update the ticker). Since this is first time onsite I think changing resorts will keep kids excited (and not complaining about all of us in same room for 6 days lol). Starting at CBR June 1 and switching to BC June 3-7. We are going primarily for SWW and to hit kids favorites in other parks so we don't need to be in parks open-close. The tip on packing is great and works perfectly with our stay (we are flying a discount airline that charges for each checked bag so we are sticking to 2-so first 3 days in one bag, 2nd 3 in another bag, carryon for personal items...The trick will be getting them packed at home secretly - if we stick to plan of not telling them until on way to airport...
Does moving offsite for 6 days to our timeshare (with a planned one night at Universal) count towards a split too? :)

Metz172, what a great surprise! Since you have a private driver, I'd let him know not to ruin the surprise by saying something while en route, and keep it a surprise until you get there (I'm sure they'll figure it out while driving since there are so many road signs telling you how to get to particular resorts.) It would be fun to blindfold them and reveal it as you pull up to the resort, though! Go early to check in--even if your room is not ready, you will be escorted up to the lounge and can have breakfast and explore the resort a little. :)

Monykalyn, that's a great split, and perfect timing to head to the BC during SWW. We've been at YC two years in a row at that exact time period, and it's great! Have fun!

I have a question! I skimmed through a few pages but did the answer. So we are staying at the Beach Club for 2 nights starting on the 28th then checking out and checking into the Wilderness Lodge for 7 nights. We just got our two sets of magic bands shipped to us. I had them customized different colors incase somebody changed their mind on what color they wanted. I just want to bring one for each person with. Does it matter which one I bring?

I haven't read through this awesome (but long) thread, so forgive me if this has already been answered...

We are planning on doing a split stay as follows:
10/7-10/11 CBR MYW with free dining (have a bounceback)
10/11-10/13 Poly room only

My question is....can we eat at Ohanas using dining credits on 10/11, which is the date we check OUT of CBR and check IN to Poly? I know that dining credits are good until midnight of the day you check out...but I have never tried to do this during a split stay on the transition day.
Anyone done this?

The magic bands are linked to your account, not your hotel. So, as long as all the bands are activated, they will all work.
We had Annual Passes last year, and always stayed on site. We had 5 sets of magic bands for each member of our family. They all worked! All your FP and hotel reservations are linked to your account, and the magic band accesses that account.

Yes, you shouldn't have any problem at all using anything that's left on your dining plan (and we haven't in the past). However, when you check into the Poly, just make sure that your dining entitlements are still showing up. :)

Makes sense! Thank you!!

We are doing a triple split stay. First we are staying 4 nights at Bay Lake. Then 2 nights at Beach Club and our lest 3 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had planned on sending our luggage to the bell service and then hitting the parks. In the afternoon we would go to our new resort and check in.
Does anyone see a problem with this?

Nope, and great plan! The only thing you need to be aware of is that your MB will keep charging to the resort you left that morning UNTIL you check into the new resort. Just be aware of that if you plan to use gift cards or cash to settle your bill and would like nothing to be charged to your credit card on file.

:thumbsup2Just had to post that this thread answered all of my split stay questions! This will be our first time splitting a stay and I'm very excited!

I have been reading this whole thread and love it. I never thought a split stay could work but it sounds like a fun option! I'm going to follow along until my dreaming becomes more 'real' planning. :)

Hi y'all
Hoping someone can help me with this. We are doing a spit stay BG and Poly DVC. We have DXDD for both parts. On our transfer day we have a cape may (1 point) breakfasts and a Narcoossees (2 point) dinner. SO If I go along as planed will need to use 1 point from my first reservation and 1 point from my second for Dinner. Is this able to be done? My other thought is I send my DH over to the poly at 7:30 am and check us in. That way we can use 1 point from are 2nd 1/2 for breakfast at 8am and the last 2 points from out first 1/2 for dinner that night. If thats what I have to do checking in at the poly wont check us out of the BC or tangle our credits will it?

Sorry for the late response--we were at Disney when you wrote and I missed it! :)

We don't use the dining plan very frequently, but when we have, the credits leftover have always carried over throughout the day of check out. When you check into the Poly, I would just make sure that your credits are still there. If they're not, since you're unlikely to get into your room any earlier than 4 (since it's DVC), I'd just use up your credits before checking in (assuming you plan to use your Poly DxDD for Narcoossees).

Thinking about doing a split stay in November for the first time. We would check into pop on Thursday and check into akl cl on sat. We will also be doing mk that day and always do rd. would we be ok to not check in until the afternoon when we leave mk for a break around 2 or 3 or should we get up extra early and go check in first thing and try to make it to rope drop. (If we have a rental car) Another thing is I made the akl ro ressie through Expedia uk and I'll make a ro ressie for pop directly from Disney, will this complicate anything such as dinning ressies, fp+ ressies, or magic bands? I plan on only customizing the first set. Also we may or may not have a car so if we don't well just transfer our luggage from the resort. We will have to have a rental at some point though because we have a sea world day planned and were driving to ft lauderdale to sail the magic after our WDW stay. TIA for all your help! This is the most complicated trip I've ever planned!

I could use some input from all you experts as well.

We're trying to get Pop Century for four nights. Here's our options:

Option 1:
Nights 1-2... TA discount rate
Nights 3-4... Rack rate

Option 2
Nights 1-2... TA discount
Night 3... Rack rate
Night 4... TA discount

Basically the TA discount is sold out for night 3. So, we're looking at two separate reservations (option 1), or three (option 2).

Option 2 would save us $65. Would three separate ressies be too much hassle for a four night stay in one hotel?

We just did a split stay and I don't know if you will be able to do this. We went from the cR to AKV and we couldn't use any credits at all at AKV until all the cr ones were used. We tried to use new quick service ones and couldn't until we used all our snacks up. It was a nightmare at Mara figuring out what I needed to use up.

Just wanted say thank you for this thread!! We frequent DLR and this is our first trip to WDW as a family. Our oldest is graduating from high school and her 'grad party' includes a stay at AK Kidani for two nights in the middle of our stay. I was skeptical, but I think it is totally doable now.

Our first hotel is POR and I was unable to get AP or any other discount on the rooms. Should I check daily for the possibility of a cheaper rate? Any other ideas to get a decent room rate for a family of 5? We will be there in the middle of June with the first hotel stay overlapping the spring/summer rates.

And if there are changes to our reservations to the first hotel (small chance DD17 might stay back for a few days for a scholarship luncheon), ADRs and FPs will not be affected?
