Well, friends, I know I promised a trip report, but heres the deal: as I have alluded to in previous entries, the trip was a bit of a disappointment, and due to illness and extreme lack of sleep, I failed to take an adequate amount of pictures to justify a full trip report. I think I maybe took a grand total of 25 pics thats like one entry for most of you all.
So instead of doing a full TR, I thought Id just give you a quick rundown of our trip and then close out this PTR. I know some of you out there need closure, and I wouldnt want to leave you hanging!
So here goes
The first day of our trip, we got up bright and early. Not by choice, really. DS is our faithful alarm clock, and every day at 6 am, he reminds us its time to get up. So even though I had slept very little, I drug myself out of bed and began getting things ready to go. Even Disney cant turn me into a morning person!!
It turned out to be a good thing we woke up so early, because even though I thought I was totally prepared, we ended up being busy taking care of last minute details until our friend arrived to take us to the airport. I could already tell traveling with a kid was going to be a whole different ballgame! It didnt help that after we returned, we would have one day before we left for our family trip to Alaska, so I was essentially preparing to leave for around 3 weeks. We are insane.
Here's a few pics of DH & DS and the cute little shirt I got for him for travel day
Writing this 6 months after the trip, I'm realizing how much DS has changed. I sure miss those chubby little arms!!
Our friend arrived at 10:30 to take us to the airport. Our flight left at 12:30, and Nashvilles a pretty small airport, so this seemed to be more than enough time, but we were adding a little cushion in for traveling with a baby. She dropped us right at the front door, and we were through check-in by 11. We then learned that our flight had been delayed 20 minutes (bummer, but could be worse). We fed DS before going through security because I didnt think we could take his baby food into the secured area (since its a liquid). I found out later that we probably could have, because they asked me if I had any formula in my belongings, and it sounded like that was ok and that they make exceptions to the liquids rule when its for baby supplies. Anyone know for sure?
Anyways, we got through security with no problems and began making our way to the gate. We stopped to eat lunch at Blue Coast Burrito.
We both ordered the peasant plate, which is virtually like a build your own nacho with the chips on the side:
The food was ok we usually go to one thats right by our house that seems to be a lot more fresh, but this was fine. I wasnt really that hungry, anyways, because I was so excited to go to Disney!!
While at lunch, DH got a call from his boss who was trying to check-in and check her luggage. Quick backtrack since its been awhile since I discussed this in the PTR DH was traveling to WDW for an event with work, along with his boss. Their tickets had been purchased by their work, so they were linked together. I purchased my tickets separately. Apparently, when we checked in, the attendant checked DHs luggage under his bosss name, so when she arrived and went to check her bags, it showed she had already checked the maximum amount of luggage. DH got on the phone with the southwest attendant, who was somehow able to switch everything over, but not before she was pretty snotty about it It is your responsibility to check your baggage claim ticket and make sure that it is in your name. Ummmm
.what? You just checked us in and gave us the boarding passes with the right names. Why would you check in our luggage under a different name? And seriously, does anyone look at the little baggage claim tickets? I didnt think so. I normally love Southwest (I think I even raved about them earlier in this PTR), but this lady definitely did not exhibit the customer service attitude I am used to receiving from them. Boo.
No matter. It got resolved, but we were a little nervous that Magical Express would deliver our luggage to DHs bosses room who was staying at a different resort, since the tags had her name on it (this didnt happen, in case I forget to mention it later yay Disney!). We continued on toward our gate, which was loaded with people. There was a little play center right across from our gate, so I let DS crawl around in that area for a while, hoping to let him get some of his energy out before he had to be confined during our two-hour flight.
We finally started boarding the plane about 15 minutes late not too bad and had an uneventful flight. DS was perfect! He sat on DHs lap and looked at his Brown Bear book the entire time. He did get pretty tired because he was missing his afternoon nap, and had a dirty diaper (Airplanes are apparently the only bathrooms in the world that dont have the pull-down changing tables! Ok, fine. There are probably bathrooms in remote, third-world countries that lack the pull-down changing tables. But this is America, people! Pull-down changing tables are a necessity!) That was an interesting dilemma, but we managed somehow.
I did the Sudoku puzzles in the airline magazine.
We arrived at MCO around 3:45 (we lost an hour traveling to Eastern Time) and made our way toward ME.
DH made a quick stop at McDonalds for a smoothie and to get some $1 bills to use for tips. He thought it was yummy.
Pretty sure DH didn't know I was taking this picture!
How many other airports do you know of with a fountain inside them? I know of 0.
This always makes me so happy! I think it's the first WDW Resort sign!
We made it to ME without getting lost (Yay!) and were immediately escorted to our bus a real ME bus (Yay again), and didnt have to wait in line at all (Yay Yay Yay!).
We were the first people on the bus, and sat by ourselves for a while, so we let DS walk up and down the aisles to get some energy out.
"BYE BYE Orlando Airport!!"
Finally, a few other families joined us, and we were on our way. We had to wait about 25 minutes to leave, but our resort was the first stop!
