The Fratt house Takes on the World! - Sept 2012 PTR

OH my gosh! I love the 6 month health health challenge!!! I need to do more of those, I did exercise for 1 hour tonight (go me!). I really need to lose weight though- like 30 lbs!!! You definitely don't need to lose any weight!

The dessert thing is funny. I have to have sweet things as well. Today after dinner I had a 90 calorie Snickers ice cream bay, it was yummy but there goes my 300 calories I lost! Haha!!

Oh other notes, you leave for Disney tomorrow! Yippee! Have a great trip with lots of yummy desserts(that are more than 200 calories) haha!

Oh yes, I forgot to comment about Wal-mart. I HATE Wal-mart! It sounds like you don't hate it but don't like it, but I really hate them. They have destroyed grocery stores in the US! I work with grocery stores so they directly impact my work. Grocery stores can't compete with Wal-mart and it is a sad thing!! I have only been into Wal-mart like 6 times in my entire life and I have only bought things from them like 3 times. I try to boycott them.

I LOVE the 90 calories snickers, I've been having them every night as my after dinner sweet! So yummy

Here's the challenge:

- No dark soda or sweet tea. Can have one Sprite a day.
- Drink 8 glasses (total of 64oz) of water each day.
- Meals need to be in the following proportion: 1/2 of plate is fruits and vegetables, 1/4 is carbs, 1/4 is protein
- One dessert a day - 200 calories or less
- Exercise one hour, five days a week (going for walks counts)
- One meal a week is a "cheat" meal, and I can have whatever I want
- I get three "strikes" (times when I fail to meet one of the above criteria)

OK - so this is going to be REALLY challenging for me! Maybe it doesn't seem that difficult to many of you, but believe me, this is a HUGE adjustment from where I'm currently at.

 :faint:

That is a multi-faceted challenge! Good changes to aim for, but seems like a lot of them at once. OTOH, making it a six-month challenge could help -- days when it's driving you crazy, you can tell yourself it's "only" for six months. :scratchin Although of course it'll likely have a good impact on your long-term habits, and you may be able to see easy ways to improve your diet and figure out what changes drive you the most crazy. ;) Best of luck. :)

And since we leave tomorrow, this officially concludes my PTR.

:cool1:

Celebrating the fact that you're at WDW, not that the PTR is over. :p Hope you have a great time! pixiedust:

So, how did the trip go with the Little Guy? I can officially say we go to Disney World next month!! We are so excited!!

I would love to get any advice from you about traveling with your little man, since I will be traveling with my baby boy as well (he will be almost 10 months old when we go at the end of November).

I saw in your pictures we have a couple of the same shirts for my son and we also have the same Tigger...great taste! :)

Hello? Anyone still out there???

cricket cricket

I realize it's been 5 months since my last post when we were headed to Disney the next day. And then I fell off the map. Sorry!!!!

To be honest, the trip was a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong - there were some great moments, and now that a little time has gone by I'm more able to appreciate the experience we had. But I came back feeling a little depressed and even less enthused about writing a TR about it. It seemed like it would be like pouring salt in the wound or something.

However, now that a few months have gone by, my Disney passion has re-emerged and I am back in full swing on the Dis - mostly lurking on other people's TR & PTR, but thinking of starting my own TR pretty soon. But before that, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who followed along on my PTR - it was so fun getting to know all of you and sharing my experience. I hope you'll forgive me for my extended absence and follow along on my TR that I'll be starting at some point in the near future. Thanks again for following along -

See ya real soon!

Good to see you here! :)

Sorry the trip didn't go as well as hoped. :( Glad to hear there were good moments, though.

Thanks, Shalom! I've enjoyed reading up on your TR - looks like you guys had a good time so far:) Look forward to continuing to reading about your trip!

Well, friends, I know I promised a trip report, but here’s the deal: as I have alluded to in previous entries, the trip was a bit of a disappointment, and due to illness and extreme lack of sleep, I failed to take an adequate amount of pictures to justify a full trip report. I think I maybe took a grand total of 25 pics –that’s like one entry for most of you all.

So instead of doing a full TR, I thought I’d just give you a quick rundown of our trip and then close out this PTR. I know some of you out there need closure, and I wouldn’t want to leave you hanging!

So here goes –

The first day of our trip, we got up bright and early. Not by choice, really. DS is our faithful alarm clock, and every day at 6 am, he reminds us it’s time to get up. So even though I had slept very little, I drug myself out of bed and began getting things ready to go. Even Disney can’t turn me into a morning person!!

It turned out to be a good thing we woke up so early, because even though I thought I was totally prepared, we ended up being busy taking care of last minute details until our friend arrived to take us to the airport. I could already tell traveling with a kid was going to be a whole different ballgame! It didn’t help that after we returned, we would have one day before we left for our family trip to Alaska, so I was essentially preparing to leave for around 3 weeks. We are insane.

Here's a few pics of DH & DS and the cute little shirt I got for him for travel day:goodvibes

Writing this 6 months after the trip, I'm realizing how much DS has changed. I sure miss those chubby little arms!!

IMG_0331_zps6e0c5abc.jpg

Our friend arrived at 10:30 to take us to the airport. Our flight left at 12:30, and Nashville’s a pretty small airport, so this seemed to be more than enough time, but we were adding a little cushion in for traveling with a baby. She dropped us right at the front door, and we were through check-in by 11. We then learned that our flight had been delayed 20 minutes (bummer, but could be worse). We fed DS before going through security because I didn’t think we could take his baby food into the secured area (since it’s a liquid). I found out later that we probably could have, because they asked me if I had any formula in my belongings, and it sounded like that was ok and that they make exceptions to the “liquids” rule when it’s for baby supplies. Anyone know for sure?

Anyways, we got through security with no problems and began making our way to the gate. We stopped to eat lunch at Blue Coast Burrito.

IMG_0337_zpsf182b8ea.jpg

We both ordered the peasant plate, which is virtually like a build your own nacho with the chips on the side:

IMG_0338_zpsd036631f.jpg

The food was ok –we usually go to one that’s right by our house that seems to be a lot more fresh, but this was fine. I wasn’t really that hungry, anyways, because I was so excited to go to Disney!!

While at lunch, DH got a call from his boss who was trying to check-in and check her luggage. Quick backtrack since it’s been awhile since I discussed this in the PTR – DH was traveling to WDW for an event with work, along with his boss. Their tickets had been purchased by their work, so they were linked together. I purchased my tickets separately. Apparently, when we checked in, the attendant checked DH’s luggage under his boss’s name, so when she arrived and went to check her bags, it showed she had already checked the maximum amount of luggage. DH got on the phone with the southwest attendant, who was somehow able to switch everything over, but not before she was pretty snotty about it – “It is your responsibility to check your baggage claim ticket and make sure that it is in your name.” Ummmm….what? You just checked us in and gave us the boarding passes with the right names. Why would you check in our luggage under a different name? And seriously, does anyone look at the little baggage claim tickets? I didn’t think so. I normally love Southwest (I think I even raved about them earlier in this PTR), but this lady definitely did not exhibit the customer service attitude I am used to receiving from them. Boo.

No matter. It got resolved, but we were a little nervous that Magical Express would deliver our luggage to DH’s bosses room who was staying at a different resort, since the tags had her name on it (this didn’t happen, in case I forget to mention it later – yay Disney!). We continued on toward our gate, which was loaded with people. There was a little play center right across from our gate, so I let DS crawl around in that area for a while, hoping to let him get some of his energy out before he had to be confined during our two-hour flight.

IMG_0343_zps7227e4db.jpg

We finally started boarding the plane about 15 minutes late – not too bad – and had an uneventful flight. DS was perfect! He sat on DH’s lap and looked at his Brown Bear book the entire time. He did get pretty tired because he was missing his afternoon nap, and had a dirty diaper (Airplanes are apparently the only bathrooms in the world that don’t have the pull-down changing tables! Ok, fine. There are probably bathrooms in remote, third-world countries that lack the pull-down changing tables. But this is America, people! Pull-down changing tables are a necessity!) That was an interesting dilemma, but we managed somehow.

IMG_0346_zps74ce6c48.jpg
I did the Sudoku puzzles in the airline magazine.

We arrived at MCO around 3:45 (we lost an hour traveling to Eastern Time) and made our way toward ME.

IMG_0349_zps7c218f06.jpg

DH made a quick stop at McDonald’s for a smoothie and to get some $1 bills to use for tips. He thought it was yummy.

IMG_0350_zps6b6b2322.jpg

IMG_0352_zps1a4da909.jpg

Pretty sure DH didn't know I was taking this picture!

IMG_0357_zps8f58caf9.jpg

How many other airports do you know of with a fountain inside them? I know of 0.

IMG_0358_zps45cc214a.jpg

This always makes me so happy! I think it's the first WDW Resort sign!

We made it to ME without getting lost (Yay!) and were immediately escorted to our bus – a real ME bus (Yay again), and didn’t have to wait in line at all (Yay Yay Yay!).

IMG_0360_zps2e524bba.jpg

IMG_0361_zpsdcfa017a.jpg

We were the first people on the bus, and sat by ourselves for a while, so we let DS walk up and down the aisles to get some energy out.

"BYE BYE Orlando Airport!!"

Finally, a few other families joined us, and we were on our way. We had to wait about 25 minutes to leave, but our resort was the first stop!

IMG_0368_zps91f71450.jpg

My shots a little off-center. Apparently photography is not my thing!

IMG_0369_zpsf1595c4e.jpg

This is certainly not any better!

IMG_0372_zps0c701fe7.jpg

We're getting closer!!!

IMG_0373_zpsc7fafb8e.jpg

First sign for our resort!

IMG_0375_zps77137d13.jpg

We're here! Hooray!
We pulled up to the Polynesian and were immediately greeted by a friendly castmember. He took our names and escorted us to checkin. Another castmember checked us in – she was friendly, but didn’t know if DS was a boy or girl??? This is a recurring problem, and I’m not sure why? I mean, I don’t care that he’s in a Cinderella dress, his face totally still looks like a boy! Just kidding. I didn’t dress DS in any princess attire. But she did really think he was a girl. Ugh. Probably shouldn’t bug me, but it did. Moving on. She gave us our leis and directed us to our room.

IMG_0376_zps409bf8e1.jpg

DS was not a fan of the leis. We managed to get one picture before he had an absolute meltdown.

We were on the second floor in Tahiti, which I was initially hesitant about. First, it’s pretty far away from the GCH. And the pool. And the boat dock. And all the restaurants. And, well, pretty much everything except the TTC. Second, I had read the second floor rooms didn’t have balconies, which would be a huge disappointment since we planned on spending quite a bit of time on ours while DS napped. Both turned out to be mostly unfounded. It’s true we were a ways away from GCH, but it’s really not that far of a walk, and it’s really beautiful! Plus, we actually preferred being closer to TTC. We could easily catch a direct monorail to Epcot and MK and even went there to grab a direct bus to AK. If you stay at the Poly, I would definitely recommend using the TTC for transport rather than the resort. It is a lot faster!

We got to our room and discovered that not only did it have a balcony, it had a MK view! (we were listed as a lagoon view). You did have to walk to one side of the balcony because there was a palm tree in the way of the view for part of it, but WHO CARES?!?! I could definitely see the castle from my balcony!! That’s just awesome! I do think in the future it would be cool to stay on the first floor of this resort – that way you could walk directly out of your room to the beach. But overall I was really happy with the room.

IMG_0389_zps9103cb7a.jpg

The view from our balcony. It was fun watching the boats go back and forth. The Castle was just behind where the palm tree was - you could see it fine if you stood on the right side of our balcony.

IMG_0390_zpsf2575f55.jpg

Paradise.

At this point, we were running late for our 5:45 reservation at Kona, and I seriously considered just scrapping it altogether and going straight to MK. I was really anxious to get to a park, and I knew DS wouldn’t be thrilled about sitting in a high chair after he’d been cooped up all afternoon. But we decided we’d try it since we already had the reservation. We got there around 15 minutes late, but they seated us within 5 minutes. We were at a table right along the center of the restaurant. It probably wasn’t the best seat in the house, but it was fine.

IMG_0391_zps2cdc04e5.jpg

View from our seat. The family at the table next to us had just left, so please excuse their mess.

IMG_0394_zpsa21cafd1.jpg

DS looked at this book the whole time. It's his favorite!

We ate the bread as our appetizer and LOVED it (who doesn’t????), and then received our entrées. I ordered the pork chop and Justin got chicken of some sort – it came with a salad, so that’s kind of his thing. I think Justin liked his chicken fine – nothing to rave about, but who really raves about grilled chicken and salad, anyways? But my pork chop, my oh my. This was one of the best things I ate the entire week. I’m not really a meat lover – I usually eat about 2 -3 bites, then just eat bread and mashed potatoes. But this thing was amaaaaazing. Best piece of meat I had the entire trip. DH even tried a bite and said, “Wow” and then he proceeded to eat the rest of it. It is a seriously rare occurrence that DH and I leave both of our plates clean at a restaurant (we’re just not big eaters. I honestly can’t remember this ever happening where we both ate all of our entrees), but it happened tonight. I cannot stress enough how glad I am we did not skip this ADR!

IMG_0395_zpsb262f858.jpg

Infamous bread.

IMG_0396_zps54e37fb0.jpg

IMG_0398_zps625b8849.jpg

Best meat I've ever eaten. Not kidding.

IMG_0399_zps9bc6e435.jpg

Doesn't look too bad for chicken and salad, right?

Continued in Next Post

After leaving our delightful dinner, we stopped in Captain Cook’s to buy my refillable resort mug. DH just drinks water, so he didn’t get one. Then we hopped on the monorail to the MK, which was pretty full. I was surprised at how many people were already on – we barely managed to squeeze on ourselves! (It is a little more challenging when it’s 3 people + a stroller!!) I was nervous for what this meant in terms of crowd levels, but it turned out not to be an indicator of how things would be overall. Apparently 7 pm is just a popular time to go to MK???

IMG_0400_zps99d6c630.jpg

Someone's really excited to go to WDW!!!
We made our way into the park and walked down main street, taking in the beauty of the buildings, the castle, and the lovely fall décor. I will note I have never been to WDW when it wasn’t fall time, so I’m not sure what I would do if the fall décor wasn’t out. Maybe I wouldn’t even recognize it!!! We are going for Christmas this year, so I’m excited to see it in a different season!!

IMG_0401_zps05c3b073.jpg

I love this sign!

IMG_0402_zps7b128648.jpg

IMG_0403_zpsba31615a.jpg

CASTLE!!!

The plan for tonight was mostly just to see Wishes from inside the MK. I’d never seen it before, so it was a pretty big deal! I wasn’t sure what time we’d actually make it to the park, so I figured we’d just ride what we could, depending on how the lines were, then watch Wishes and head back to the resort. We headed over to Fantasyland, because there’s a lot to do in a pretty central area. We rode It’s a Small World first, since there was no line and I thought DS might like this – lots of colors, lights, and music. He seemed a little confused by it all, but amiable enough about it.

IMG_0404_zps11a16cfb.jpg

IMG_0405_zps5cd02279.jpg

I really do love the que to this ride. I know the song annoys people, but this ride just makes my heart happy.

IMG_0406_zps1ac59eaf.jpg

"What's going on here?"

IMG_0407_zps13188f09.jpg

Sorry it's blurry, and shadowey, and dark. It doesn't get any better.

IMG_0411_zps256df37f.jpg

IMG_0412_zps295e0d81.jpg

We then grabbed FP for Peter Pan and headed into Micky’s Philharmagic. We must have gotten there right after a show started because we waited out in the que area for quite some time (probably the length of a show) then had to wait in the room outside of the theater through another show. Not really a big deal, but probably our longest line of the night! The show was cute, but DS was a little scared and really just wanted to get down and walk up and down the aisle. There was no one else in our aisle, so we let him do this a little bit, but I had to focus on watching him rather than enjoying the show. So it wasn’t my favorite.

IMG_0413_zps9adbbb83.jpg

IMG_0415_zps6cbc1cd2.jpg

I get one pic of me the entire day and I'm wearing stupid 3-D glasses. Go figure.

Next we rode Winnie the Pooh and walked on – literally. The gate opened right as we approached and we literally walked right on to the ride! We played in the new cue a little bit – it seemed like a fun option if you had to wait in line for this. Not sure I like the ride enough to wait in line for it, but maybe?

IMG_0417_zpsc24c3bad.jpg

IMG_0418_zps10951db3.jpg

Next we used our FP for Peter Pan. I love this ride so much – it’s definitely my favorite of the dark rides. DH said it’s his favorite to. I think by the end of the trip, this became my favorite ride overall! I love everything about it – the sensation of flying, the music in the background, the black lights. It’s just wonderful!!

We then decided to see the new part of Fantasyland that was open and ride Dumbo. On the way, we passed the tea cups, which I had never ridden. There was no wait, so I hopped on with DS. This was probably a bad idea because as soon as I sat down, I started worrying that DS might get motion sickness like DH. And since he’s a baby, he wouldn’t be able to communicate it to me before it was too late and he threw up all over everything! So I went a little tame on the spinning, which is what makes the ride fun in the first place! Overall, it was kind of a lame experience, but I can say that I’ve done it. Next time I’m definitely going by myself!

Next we went to Dumbo and DS and I rode that, too (DH gets motion sickness from going in circles). This was also a first for me, and I enjoyed it. DS was a little scared, but I think he was also just getting tired at this point. One bummer was that because there was no line, I didn’t get to check out the new waiting area. They had it completely closed off! Oh well – I think I’d rather have no lines that an open Dumbo que.

At this point it was almost 9, so we booked it (as much as you can “book it” while pushing a stroller) back to Main Street to catch Wishes. DS fell asleep along the way, poor guy. We debated getting a dessert, but most of the places we passed were already closed. It was pretty crowded in the area in front of the castle (I know you are all rolling your eyes at me, but I’d never been here before to witness it for myself. It was pretty amazing considering this is practically the slowest time of the year!). But we found a spot to stand with little difficulty and enjoyed watching the show.

IMG_0426_zpscb2b7622.jpg

IMG_0427_zpsf378cc7a.jpg

Poor guy. He'd had a long day and was a total trooper!

My initial impression was that it was a little cheesy (GASP!), but it IS Disney, and if you can’t be cheesy here then where can you be cheesy? I also had a hard time hearing a lot of the narration because everyone around us was talking SO LOUD. Is that normal?

Afterward, we decided to stop in the bakery and grab a dessert while the rest of the park cleared out. We debated between the ice cream cookie sandwich and the cinnamon roll, but the cinnamon roll won out. The first bite was a bit dry and kind of a letdown, but it got better as we made our way toward the center and we ended up eating all of it (I guess we were kind of hungry tonight!!). It was such a perfect ending to the evening – we had a great time talking about the day and soaking up the Disney feeling. It had been the perfect first night, and a really perfect start to the trip.

IMG_0428_zps38cb1c51.jpg

There was a bit of a line at the bakery - I was surprised, but I guess I should have expected it.

IMG_0429_zps5dcafe1b.jpg

He stayed asleep the entire time.

IMG_0430_zps687c63a7.jpg

I hope they have these at the new Starbucks bakery or whatever it is.

By the time we were done, the crowds had pretty much cleared out. I had the genius idea to take the boat back to the resort rather than the monorail because I’d seen the launch earlier and thought it was closer to our room. Boy was I was wrong on that!! I had seen the launch from the TTC, not the Poly resort. We ended up having to walk all the way around the resort to get back to our room. Oh well. We did get to stop and refill my mug!

IMG_0431_zps633f7436.jpg

Our boat.

When we got back, we fed DS and I started unpacking and getting settled in. DH was going to rock DS to sleep, but ended up just laying down with him and they both fell asleep in our bed **SWEET**. I sat down at 11:30 to update my trip journal, but then started hearing some kind of banging. It took me a few minutes to realize there were fireworks outside! I leaped over DH and off the bed (nearly breaking my ankle!) and ran outside. They did a whole show above the castle at MK – I have no idea what it was for. The park closed at 9, and these fireworks went from 11:30 – 12. But they were pretty and I had a perfect view of them from my balcony. After the fireworks were over, I updated my TR until about 1, then went to bed. First full day tomorrow!!

I dunno, traveling with a little one, I think that's about as perfect as a day can get. :cloud9: Even if you hadn't warned us, I'd be thinking this can't last! :p

Your hubby's eating a lot of decadence. :scratchin Both your Kona meals look amazing. Yum!

Is it possible that it was extra magic hours at Magic Kingdom that day?

You have a beautiful family.
