Surprise! We're NOT going to Disney! 9/18-9/25 <<Update 3/24 Page 21>>

We had just unpacked a bit in our room and picked up our APs & TIW card at MK. Melody, Juliana, and I walked back over to BLT to pick up Christopher, Gabriella, and Joan to head to dinner at Chef Mickey's. We took the covered walkway over to the Contemporary which was very convenient. I had to put my foot down when Melody & her mom wanted to check out the gift shops.

We checked in for dinner and were called to our table even before we had a chance to take a picture with the Mickey statue.

We were brought to our table in the back of the restaurant and it wasn't long before we were being visited by some old friends.

As you can see, Gabby still wasn't feeling the characters.

Our waitress brought us over some cupcakes to celebrate our anniversary.

Christopher was happy to be here...

Gabby was happy eating.

We figured we scared Gabby enough, so we let her eat when Pluto came over.

She seemed to be OK taking a picture with Mickey though.

Maybe it was because Daddy was holding her? I donno?

Juliana thought now was as good a time as any to grab the camera and take a selfie.

Dinner was decent. There was no food that blew us away. We did go to town on the peel and eat shrimp. This might be the last time we eat here. However I did say that the last time we ate there. The price is just crazy. If I recall correctly, the adult price was $45 and the kids was $22. Thank goodness for the TIW discount. I almost recouped my purchase price of the TIW card in one meal. LOL But I figure you have to add $10 to the price to have the characters come to you. I'll just keep telling myself that to make it seem like dinner was worth the price.

Anyway, moving on....

After dinner we went downstairs and caught the bus to DHS. This was sure to be the best way and quickest way for all of us to get to DHS and back. Gabby was not impressed.

It sure does get dark quickly... ominous skies!

We originally thought we'd spend this night in Epcot but this was our only chance to see the Frozen fireworks during our stay. DHS was all Frozened out!

Walking towards the stage..

It was just after 7 so we had a little time to kill before we needed to find a spot for the fireworks.

Could this be the last hat picture I ever get??

We walked over and used our FPs for Star Tours.. using the child swap some of us got to ride twice (Juliana!)

After riding, i insisted we needed to head back over to get a spot for the fireworks. We did stop for bathroom breaks and I'm sure my MIL slipped into a gift shop or two.

Back over to Hollywood Blvd. we go! It was already getting packed with people.. we were quite a ways from the stage but I was thinking that was probably a good thing.

The question was were the 2 little ones gonna make it?

Coming up... Fireworks and could we, would we stay for EMHs?

Gabby didn't look too bad with Donald and Minnie, but she looks terrified of Goofy.

Our waitress brought us over some cupcakes to celebrate our anniversary.

Awwwwwww

Christopher was happy to be here...

I love when he grins like that.

Gabby was happy eating.

And this is new?

We figured we scared Gabby enough, so we let her eat when Pluto came over.

Probably a good call.

She seemed to be OK taking a picture with Mickey though.

Maybe it was because Daddy was holding her? I donno?

It could be; she knew her daddy would protect her.

Juliana thought now was as good a time as any to grab the camera and take a selfie.

Better that photobombing pictures. ;)

We've not done dinner since 2004 and probablyl won't go back. First, the food didn't do a thing for us, and the service was awful. I would possibly go back for breakfast at some point. But the prices are a bit steep for only mediocre food.

Anyway, moving on....

Good!

After dinner we went downstairs and caught the bus to DHS. This was sure to be the best way and quickest way for all of us to get to DHS and back. Gabby was not impressed.

She probably wanted to run after sitting at dinner.

It sure does get dark quickly... ominous skies!

Wow!

We originally thought we'd spend this night in Epcot but this was our only chance to see the Frozen fireworks during our stay. DHS was all Frozened out!

I did love those Frozen pictures...they were fun.

Walking towards the stage..

Looks a bit crowded there.

It was just after 7 so we had a little time to kill before we needed to find a spot for the fireworks.

Could this be the last hat picture I ever get??

Um...yes unless you took one the day we meet up.

We walked over and used our FPs for Star Tours.. using the child swap some of us got to ride twice (Juliana!)

She sure lucks out with that child swap!

Oh dear, I hope so. I'm curious if the fireworks bother Gabby.

Coming up... Fireworks and could we, would we stay for EMHs?

Hmmm....I don't remember what you told me since it was quite awhile ago.

WHOA! :scared1: That price is CUH-RAAAAAA-ZY!!!! No way, no how I'd pay that. For the same money you can get a GREAT meal at a ton of other places. But yeah, if you want the characters, I gues that's the going rate.

I guess I am one of those who is actually not too terribly disappointed the hat is going. I've never really cared for it much. It will be interesting to see what pictures I will get in a year and a half!

Kinda late to your party, but have been enjoying it just the same. And what beautiful children you have! Such cuties. :goodvibes

What??? Chef Mickey has unimpressive food and is overpriced??? :rolleyes1

I know what you mean. Yet we still keep coming back. The kids love it and it is always fun to eat there. But you definitely are paying for a heck of a lot more than just the food. :headache:

I hope the kids are able to stay awake for the fireworks. Or I guess if that won't happen, maybe they'll at least sleep peacefully enough for you and Mel to be able to enjoy them. :thumbsup2

Christopher was happy to be here...

Just a little.

Maybe it was because Daddy was holding her? I donno?

Yeah, I'm sure that was it. :rolleyes1

Dinner was decent. There was no food that blew us away. We did go to town on the peel and eat shrimp. This might be the last time we eat here. However I did say that the last time we ate there. Wow, that really is pricy. I still don't have a problem with the food there. I wouldn't call it the greatest meal I've ever had at Disney, but I can't say I had anything that was bad.

I really think it's not worth paying for the character meals though. You can find the characters in the parks for no extra money if you really want to.

Could this be the last hat picture I ever get??

Probably! I'm in the crowd that won't miss it.

That picture of Christopher at the end cracked me up. He's not feelin' it...

We have only eatend at CM's once for breakfast and were less than impressed too. We haven't gone back again. I think we may try it again in the future, but I won't expect much.

How much does character dining cost?

An amount equivalent to the GDP of a half dozen third world countries, if memory serves…

I had to put my foot down when Melody & her mom wanted to check out the gift shops.

“The foot is down… The FOOT… IS… DOWN!”

(but did it stay down?)

We checked in for dinner and were called to our table even before we had a chance to take a picture with the Mickey statue.

A win. That’s unusually quick for TS.
As for the statue… it’ll be there when y’all are done.

As you can see, Gabby still wasn't feeling the characters.

Oh well, Next trip then

Our waitress brought us over some cupcakes to celebrate our anniversary.

Very nice.
Complimentary booze would have been better, but still a nice gesture.

Christopher was happy to be here...

IMG_1773_zpsa1af466c.jpg

:lmao:
Either that or a bout of constipation.

Gabby was happy eating.

IMG_1789_zps1d884027.jpg

More eating then playing this time.
Getting the hang of it I see.

Juliana thought now was as good a time as any to grab the camera and take a selfie.

IMG_1796_zps299be791.jpg

:rotfl2:
Nice aim there captain.

Dinner was decent. There was no food that blew us away. We did go to town on the peel and eat shrimp. This might be the last time we eat here. However I did say that the last time we ate there. We did Chef Mickey’s once a long while back; encountered the same situation. Its fortunes aren't improved much. There is good food to be had all over Da World so I find it odd that the fare at one of the premier events in one of the highest end resorts should be so lack luster… and unduly pricey. We far more enjoyed character experiences (and especially the cuisine) at the Garden Grill, LTT and 1900 Park Fare.

But then again…
Chef Mickey’s is the only spot I’m aware of that encourages folks to whip their napkins around over their heads several times each evening; there by slinging bits of half eaten food and crumbs quite evenly at everyone throughout the room.
It does have that going for it.

Anyway, moving on....

While picking macn-n-cheese out of your hair

We originally thought we'd spend this night in Epcot but this was our only chance to see the Frozen fireworks during our stay.

For a one off display, I suspect the change in plan may well be worth it this time ‘round.

DHS was all Frozened out!

I’m starting to think the whole world in “Frozened out”

Could this be the last hat picture I ever get??

I do believe the answer to that one will be a definite: Yup.

The question was were the 2 little ones gonna make it?

"Tune in tomorrow — same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!"

No, wait... that's not right.

"Tune in tomorrow — same Elsa-time, same Anna-channel!"

Ah, I know that gift shop well as my 2 year-old son walked in there and tried to pick up one of the monorail sets at the front and walk out with it :lmao:

It does seem like you had good character interaction and got some nice photos. It is hard to compare the price of character meals to a "normal" meal - I think it depends how much you/your kids enjoy the characters and how the interactions are if the cost is worth it ... but cost is definitely one reason we haven't done Chef Mickey's yet. We tend to try to do the character meals that can also get us early access to the park with pre-opening breakfast ADRs so at least we are getting 2 "extras" for the cost

Well, if you are going to have ominous skies - over the Tower of Terror is probably the most appropriate

ooh - looks like a good spot for the fireworks! We hussled over as fast as we could after getting out of Fantasmic! but were further back and off to the side - still good, but love your spot!

Also love the photo towards the end of the two little ones in the stroller

Oh Gabby cracks me up! Or maybe it has to do with the commentary?:confused3

great pictures again! I will say HS is the best shopping... Besides DTD..:rolleyes1 just sayin.

Chef Mickey's... What can i say that you haven't already! we do the dining plan so i don't get sticker shock..

Chef Mickey's is fun but it does come at a price.

Looks like a nice dinner and Gabby at least likes Mickey....;)

Looks like you might have at least one pass out before the fireworks. :lmao:

Good, cuz I might actually be on once or twice in those few months. :lmao::lmao:
Well, it seems you've been around more than I have. :lmao::lmao:

I did notice that she liked to shop.
You think? :rotfl2:

I love when he grins like that.
Sometimes it is very sinister.

And this is new?
No, not really. She is a pretty good eater.

Better that photobombing pictures.
:rotfl2:

We've not done dinner since 2004 and probablyl won't go back. First, the food didn't do a thing for us, and the service was awful. I would possibly go back for breakfast at some point. But the prices are a bit steep for only mediocre food.
I agree... but you get to see characters. :rolleyes1

We've done breakfast there a few times.... I think we should stick to that. But I'm sure we will be back for dinner someday. :lmao:

Looks a bit crowded there.
Just a tad.

Um...yes unless you took one the day we meet up.
Maybe.... :rolleyes1

She sure lucks out with that child swap!
She sure does. She gets 2x the rides! Lucky girl.

Oh dear, I hope so. I'm curious if the fireworks bother Gabby.
Coming up eventually.

Hmmm....I don't remember what you told me since it was quite awhile ago.
I don't remember either.... I'll just have to make something up. :rotfl:

WHOA! :scared1: That price is CUH-RAAAAAA-ZY!!!! No way, no how I'd pay that. For the same money you can get a GREAT meal at a ton of other places. But yeah, if you want the characters, I gues that's the going rate.
It is nuts... we are suckers, what can I say? :lmao:

I guess I am one of those who is actually not too terribly disappointed the hat is going. I've never really cared for it much. It will be interesting to see what pictures I will get in a year and a half!
They are progressing pretty quick. It's almost totally down now.

Kinda late to your party, but have been enjoying it just the same. And what beautiful children you have! Such cuties. :goodvibes
:welcome: thank you for reading and for the kind words! :goodvibes

What??? Chef Mickey has unimpressive food and is overpriced??? :rolleyes1
:lmao::lmao:

I knew what I was getting myself into... but hey, I did it for the kids.

I know what you mean. Yet we still keep coming back. The kids love it and it is always fun to eat there. But you definitely are paying for a heck of a lot more than just the food. :headache:
Oh, well... I can think of worse ways of blowing $140. :lmao:

I hope the kids are able to stay awake for the fireworks. Or I guess if that won't happen, maybe they'll at least sleep peacefully enough for you and Mel to be able to enjoy them. :thumbsup2
Good thing you are a little busy right now. Imagine if you were home waiting for my update? :lmao: :lmao:

Wow, that really is pricy. I still don't have a problem with the food there. I wouldn't call it the greatest meal I've ever had at Disney, but I can't say I had anything that was bad.
You know how many burgers you can buy for the price of a Chef Mickey's dinner? :rotfl:

I really think it's not worth paying for the character meals though. You can find the characters in the parks for no extra money if you really want to.
Yea, but who wants to wait in those lines?

Probably! I'm in the crowd that won't miss it.
I'm curious to see how it's gonna look.

That picture of Christopher at the end cracked me up. He's not feelin' it...
He was just getting tired. It was a long day.

We have only eatend at CM's once for breakfast and were less than impressed too. We haven't gone back again. I think we may try it again in the future, but I won't expect much.
I want to try the breakfast at Cape May... maybe if we stay at BCV in August.

An amount equivalent to the GDP of a half dozen third world countries, if memory serves…
:lmao:

Not much more I can add to this except say:

ed_mcmahon_rubin.jpg

“The foot is down… The FOOT… IS… DOWN!”

(but did it stay down?)
Confucius say: The foot can only stay down for so long before one must pick up- unless you are a statue.

He also said, 'Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.'
He must not of seen the buffet at Chef Mickey's. :rolleyes1

A win. That’s unusually quick for TS.
As for the statue… it’ll be there when y’all are done.
The plus of having a 5:05 ADR time.

Very nice.
Complimentary booze would have been better, but still a nice gesture.
Now you're talking! I would vote for you to get on the WDW Celebrations Committee.

:lmao:
Either that or a bout of constipation.
Nah, the kid has no problems in that department.

More eating then playing this time.
Getting the hang of it I see.
Well, I must of just caught her at the right time. :lmao:

We did Chef Mickey’s once a long while back; encountered the same situation. Its fortunes aren't improved much. There is good food to be had all over Da World so I find it odd that the fare at one of the premier events in one of the highest end resorts should be so lack luster… and unduly pricey. We far more enjoyed character experiences (and especially the cuisine) at the Garden Grill, LTT and 1900 Park Fare.
We didn't love Garden Grill when we ate there but we have have great food at 1900PF. I do agree that the food at CM should be better but when it is constantly booked up, there is no incentive for quality control IMO. Now don't get me wrong, the food was OK but for those prices you'd expect a bit more.

But then again…
Chef Mickey’s is the only spot I’m aware of that encourages folks to whip their napkins around over their heads several times each evening; there by slinging bits of half eaten food and crumbs quite evenly at everyone throughout the room.
It does have that going for it. :roll eyes:
:lmao: :lmao:

Thank goodness Gabby wasn't whipping her napkin over her head. The whole restaurant would of been covered in food.

For a one off display, I suspect the change in plan may well be worth it this time ‘round.
Yes, it was worth it.... plus it was our only chance to se it while we were there.

I’m starting to think the whole world in “Frozened out”
We've been pretty lucky here.... so far it's been an average winter with less than average snowfall... Still 2 months to change that but so far so good.

"Tune in tomorrow — same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!"

No, wait... that's not right.

"Tune in tomorrow — same Elsa-time, same Anna-channel!"
:lmao: :lmao:

Not sure about tuning in tomorrow... but more like tune in eventually. :3dglasses

Ah, I know that gift shop well as my 2 year-old son walked in there and tried to pick up one of the monorail sets at the front and walk out with it :lmao:
Wow... those sets are pretty big. How far did he make it before security jumped on him? :lmao:

It does seem like you had good character interaction and got some nice photos. It is hard to compare the price of character meals to a "normal" meal - I think it depends how much you/your kids enjoy the characters and how the interactions are if the cost is worth it ... but cost is definitely one reason we haven't done Chef Mickey's yet. We tend to try to do the character meals that can also get us early access to the park with pre-opening breakfast ADRs so at least we are getting 2 "extras" for the cost
I agree...

Even though our kids are usually up early, we have a hard time getting to an ADR or park early- just ask Kathy. :lmao:

Well, if you are going to have ominous skies - over the Tower of Terror is probably the most appropriate
Luckily, that's as bad as they got. Besides it being a bit warm, it turned out to be one of the best evenings (as far as weather goes).

ooh - looks like a good spot for the fireworks! We hussled over as fast as we could after getting out of Fantasmic! but were further back and off to the side - still good, but love your spot!
It was a good spot. The fireworks were placed just above the hat which made for great pictures and a decent video (when it wasn't shaking because someone needed to be held)

Also love the photo towards the end of the two little ones in the stroller
They had a long day... but it turned out well till the end. :rolleyes1

Oh Gabby cracks me up! Or maybe it has to do with the commentary?:confused3
She has such a little personality. I just say what I think she is thinking. :lmao:

great pictures again! I will say HS is the best shopping... Besides DTD..:rolleyes1 just sayin.
Luckily, we haven't been to DTD the last couple trips. :dance3:

Chef Mickey's... What can i say that you haven't already! we do the dining plan so i don't get sticker shock..
Great deal when you are the dining plan. ::yes::

Chef Mickey's is fun but it does come at a price.
Maybe we will try breakfast there in the future. I donno, we don't eat there every time. I just thought it would be fun and convenient walking over from BLT.

Looks like a nice dinner and Gabby at least likes Mickey....;)
She was starting to get a little more used to them by the end of dinner. Too bad that didn't carry on to the next day. :lmao:

Looks like you might have at least one pass out before the fireworks. :lmao:
:lmao:

Wait a sec... you aren't talking about me right?

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I forgot to post this picture with the last update.... It was taken with my cell phone... I like it so I'm sharing it with you.

Continuing on.... We were standing on Hollywood Blvd. waiting for the Frozen fireworks to start. As we got closer it was getting more and more packed. The room I thought I had was being invaded. Then a group of people slipped in-between us and the people we were standing behind. So much for the kids watching from the stroller- they were both awake. I videoed and help Christopher stand on the stroller while Melody held Gabby. We tried to get Juliana a clear view but I think she ended up on my back. You should see the shaky video I have of the fireworks.... I get nauseous trying to watch it. Oh, I was also able to snap a few pictures of the fireworks too...

Hidden Mickey firework!

I'm sure you all know about the Frozen fireworks but the music was from the movie and the fireworks were synced to it. It actually was really well done. In true Frozen style, it ended with snow.

Fireworks were over. It was just after 9pm. 2 tired small kids. Park was closing but had EMHs. Mass exodus of people. A decision needed to be made... what should we do? What would of you done?

We decided to stick around for a little bit and let the crowd clear out a bit. We headed over towards the ToT.

I did allow a bit of shopping on the way over. There was even a hat pic taken!

It didn't take long for both Gabriella and Christopher to pass out in the stroller. It seemed liked everyone was heading to ToT so we walked over to RnRC and didn't have to wait too long to ride.

Juliana & I went first....

Then using a child swap, Juliana got to ride again with Melody and her mom.

I was just hanging out with the 2 sleeping kids playing with my camera settings trying to get the 'prefect' picture of ToT.. this picture is far from perfect but I didn't get to play that long.. The girls were out quickly.

It was 10:20 and we were going to call it a night. We walked toward the exit and made it to the bus stop. That is when the shock set in. The line was ridiculous. The cue was filled and the line was going back past the adjacent bus stop. I never saw a WDW bus line that long before. As we waited bus after bus slowly showed up bring people not only to the Contemporary, but also the Grand Floridan, and the Polynesian as well.

It look almost 45 minutes to get on the bus, which is always fun with bags, stroller, and 2 sleeping kids. The girls ended up with seats which was good since I handed Christopher to my MIL, while Melody held Gabby. I took my spot next to the back door holding the stroller. It took us over an hour to get back to the room from walking out of the gates at DHS. Yea, we would NOT be taking the bus back there in the morning...

Up Next.. More DHS, & a DISmeet years in the making

I forgot to post this picture with the last update.... It was taken with my cell phone... I like it so I'm sharing it with you.

Nice one! The sky looks really cool there.

As we got closer it was getting more and more packed. The room I thought I had was being invaded. Then a group of people slipped in-between us and the people we were standing behind.

They ought to let us carry tasers just for those people.

Hidden Mickey firework!

Nice! :thumbsup2

I'm sure you all know about the Frozen fireworks but the music was from the movie and the fireworks were synced to it. It actually was really well done. In true Frozen style, it ended with snow.

Let it snow...let it snow...wait, I'm mixing my songs here.

Fireworks were over. It was just after 9pm. 2 tired small kids. Park was closing but had EMHs. Mass exodus of people. A decision needed to be made... what should we do? What would of you done?

Fight crowds or spend more time in the parks? That's easy. The little ones can sleep in the stroller.

We decided to stick around for a little bit and let the crowd clear out a bit.

See? I knew you had it in you.

It was 10:20 and we were going to call it a night. We walked toward the exit and made it to the bus stop. That is when the shock set in. The line was ridiculous.

It look almost 45 minutes to get on the bus

 :faint:

Guess you should have spent the night in the park.

It is a good picture. :thumbsup2

Hello...did you NOT see the little kids trying to watch? I hate when people do that.

Hidden Mickey firework!

Nice pictures considering you were trying to keep Christopher up.

I'm sure you all know about the Frozen fireworks but the music was from the movie and the fireworks were synced to it. It actually was really well done. In true Frozen style, it ended with snow.

I really enjoyed them.

They went all out; the snow was a nice touch.

Evereyone appears to be getting in Mark's territory. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I still can't believe she likes that ride.

Then using a child swap, Juliana got to ride again with Melody and her mom.

Pretty darn good.

Wow...I would NOT have been a happy camper about that at all.

Up Next.. More DHS, & a DISmeet years in the making

You had a DISmeet years in the making too? What a coincidence. :rotfl::rotfl:

That did turn out to be a good spot for the fireworks - great pictures, love the "hidden Mickey" one! People do really seem to crowd/smush in - hopefully everyone had a good enough view

I was going to say that sounded like a smart move to wait the crowds out a bit, but guess you didn't wait long enough or something - an hour to get back is a bit crazy. I am sure you slept well though

Hey, your fireworks ain't half bad!! Nicely done!

And I"m glad you added the entrance picture. :) It's also darn good.
