Unless I've missed it, there hasn't been much discussion about the fridges--or lack thereof--in the resort rooms since the news first broke. Any updates? Anyone there now or just come back and what did you find? We're at POFQ end of August and wondering what the status will be.

Agreed! I was hoping to get some current information. We are headed to the BC on Friday, 26Jul and I don't know if I should bother making a Garden Grocer order for our usual milk, water, juice boxes and beer if we aren't going to have a fridge. Does anyone have any current info??

    Thanks in advance!

I have seen current updates from people there now in the specific resort FAQ threads.

So far at BC, I think all recent reports had fridges in the rooms the individuals were in, but I might have missed some

We are still ordering GG other than milk. For that, if needed, we will buy small bottles at the marketplace

    Pop tart week incoming!

We are arriving 8/13. I am wondering if the refrigerators have been switched yet on club level?

    :confused3
    Thanks

We will be in Disney in 26 days. We are staying at Pop. I called earlier this week when I heard about the refrigerator situation. We were planning on ordering water, milk, cream cheese, and most importantly beer for the vacation. I explained that I am not ordering the food unless I am guaranteed a fridge. At first she couldn't guarantee me a fridge. After a few go arounds, she guaranteed me a fridge. So call them and tell them that you need a fridge. They will work with you.

I spent a few hours on the phone this week getting transferred to many, many people at Disney over this. This is HUGE for people who rely on fridges to stretch their budget for food! Leftovers from dinner tonight saves me lunch money for tomorrow. I was told that the "bell services" at each resort will be equipt to take anything that needs refridgerated. Bell services is staffed 24 hours a day for this purpose. Convenient at resorts that may have a 20 minute walk for your stuff - um, no, but "they are trying" they say. They are still gauging the public's reaction to the situation as to how they can be accomodating with compensation.......My guess is that the more people that are concerned over this means more will be done to help out - if people don't seem to mind the inconvenience, Disney will merely "apologize for the inconvenience."

What the what? They took away fridges? What did I miss?? That's one of the reasons we book a deluxe level resort like yacht club!

    We were at YC 7/15-7/19.

No fridge in the room. No letter explaining the lack of fridge in room. No compensation offered, nor did I ask. This trip was just DH and I, so we could make do with ice in sink to keep a few drinks chilled overnight.

We saw lots of fridges being transported thru halls. Not sure if this was part of initial removal, delivery of new ones, or just relocation of the limited number of fridges available for requests.

I talked to an agent a few days ago about requesting a fridge due to medical reasons. She put in the request but she said that by the time I arrive, August 18, most fridges should be replaced at the resorts.

I really think it's terrible that they aren't comping people in some way for not having a fridge in the room...even just a Disney Gift Card for $100...a discount off your room...something. People booked rooms with fridges. When you don't deliver on what is essentially a contract, you need to compensate people somehow. Very poor on Disney's part IMO.

Take this with a grain of salt, but it's been reported in some threads here and supposedly was on the travel agent sites. If you specifically request a fridge in your room, they'll try to provide one, but it's first come, first served. If they don't have any left, you'll be given a credit of $15 per night. Hope it's true!

Wow. I was out of state and off my computer for over two weeks (July 2-18). I caught the main idea from a couple of basic Dis checks on my phone but WOW. That was a whole lotta posts in a short amount of time. I tried scanning them just now but gave up after 11 pages or so. If anyone has updates or new info that would be great to have.

I saw the thread was closed due to bickering but I am curious as to what is happening overall. Have some actually been replaced? Were the cabinets altered? How is the progress, if any, going?

I would love to see what new developments there are from the various resorts. I've looked at the ASMusic one and didn't see anything. I know since they were last added before they may be last replaced but with Sport's counter service (hot anyway) down during our visit also plus them teaching us all how to use the new Rapid Fill mugs (have they started that yet at ASMusic), it's going to be pretty hairy in the ASMusic counter service restaurant. :scared1:

in some Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort hotel rooms, as well as some at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, have been removed or temporarily disconnected due to a possible defect. Note that Disney Vacation Club rooms, Family Suites at Disney's Art of Animation and All-Star Music Resort, suites at the Disneyland Hotel, and the cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground are not affected. Replacement of the refrigerators is expected to take at least four months. You can still request a fridge for medical reasons, but it will not be guaranteed. There will be only a limited number of refrigerators available at each resort hotel.

Before complaining about them doing nothing and claiming they have poor service, you might ask if they are going to do anything instead. ;) Disney IS going to give compensation to those who request a fridge but do not get one. According to what was posted on the Disney Travel Agent site, they will be giving a $15/night credit if they cannot provide a working unit. I think this is very generous considering values did not even come with fridges until Spring of last year, and prior to that they cost only $10/night if you wanted to rent one. As for it being a contract, amenities are never a guarantee in any resort, not just Disney. I've stayed at places with the pool being closed without notice before and never once did I think to ask for compensation. Things happen. The affected units were recalled due to a fire hazard. One caught on fire at GC at Disneyland. It's not like they just decided to take them for no reason. I have no doubt that they will work as quickly as they can to resolve the issue.

In regards to the bolded, while I would generally agree; it does seem in poor taste and a lack of customer service that Disney did not notify their customers who will most likely be affected. We're going in a month, and while I personally know ahead of time, due to my own research and obsessiveness, most people who booked vacations months ago probably still have no idea that they now have a very good chance of not having a fridge in their room. The first step on the business's part should have been to notify their customers, not just hope that people don't notice or that most don't make a big deal out of it.

I'm also not one who is fond of only giving compensation to those who complain and whine the loudest.

Don't get me wrong, I fully believe that they should be making all guests aware of the situation, but to say that they are doing nothing to make the situation better (which is what I was responding to), is not accurate. :goodvibes

As for who gets the compensation and who doesn't, I don't think it is a matter of who whines the loudest. They just will not know which fridges will be working and which ones won't (because not all models are affected) until a guest physically checks into their room, so they can't give compensation to everyone ahead of time when they very well may have a working fridge in their room upon arrival. I know that current guests were immediately notified with letters left in their rooms. Hopefully there will be some type of broad notification sent out to guests arriving in the coming weeks/months.

I checked into POR on Thursday the 18th. I have a frig and was told that they were not putting guests into rooms without frigs.

My DD and family arrived at POP on Wed and had to request a frig. She was given one, which was a good thing because her 13 mnth old drinks milk every 3 to 4 hours.
