PTR Oct 2010 - An Aussie returns: Back home and TR started (11/02)

The only advice I can offer for getting to Universal is DO NOT TAKE THE BUS. The public transportation in Orlando sucks really really horribly, and is actually one of the reasons why I lost my job with Disney.

As for the 2pm or party tickets, even if he leaves a little after 7, it'll be all right as long as he heads for the exit. The rest of us will have wristbands, so it'll be okay for us, but he would be escorted to the exit by a CM. As long as he gets into CP before 7, he's fine :) The party doesn't start until 7, and they know that some non-party people will still be eating dinner then, so they'll just be escorted to the exit after leaving the restaurant.

Also, I'm still checking for an earlier time at CP on that day. I've not found anything yet, but there's still a little over 3 weeks, so you never know :) I'll let you know if I find anything earlier, though :flower3:

Excellent! My cunning plan will work. Don't worry about getting an earlier time at CP. I figure if we pitch up at about 5.45 pm, they will be able to cope....or NOT! :rotfl2:

I'm not really fussing about it, I just check every other day or so :lmao: If I find one, great, if I don't, at least we have an ADR for 6 :) And it's not like we're not going to the party again, so it's okay if we miss a little bit of it, right? :)

Today's October 1.
I can officially say I'm NOT NOT going to the World this month!

Happy start of Halloween month everyone.

So, I have some news to share.

I am NOT going to WDW in January 2011....

DH has another work trip for the last week in January/first week of February 2011 to San Francisco. As this time coincides with the last week of school (summer) vacation in Oz, we're checking finances and frequent miles programs to see if we can swing a trip to California....DH, DS and myself.

We think that if we watch our pennies (and the $$) that we may actually be able to take an extra couple of days off to go to.......DLR! And then drive up the coast to San Francisco.

This is NOT definitely locked in; but it is a plan. It will come down to how much the airfares are.

Step 12 of any PTR involves compiling a list of the Top 10 Rides that one MUST do at each park; or overall at WDW.

This could be a simple typed out list of the top 10 to combining the list with an Illustrated guide (see Step 11). And nothing gets a PTR zinging up the DisBoard forum charts quicker than when reader/lurker participation is requested. Afterall, with 40 rides/attractions at Magic Kingdom, 19 at Epcot, 15 at DHS and 13 at Animal Kingdom, there are way too many permutations and combinations for the DisBoard to agree on an ultimate Top 10.

Me? I have compiled my own NOT Top 10 WDW Rides.....and you guessed it! In keeping with the NOT theme of my PTR, I have to determine my least favourite rides/attactions for WDW. :scared1:

Like my NOT Blissful Bites post, I appreciate that this topic will send shockwaves through the DisBoard community as my NOT Top 10 may offend some of you. I just ask that you keep in mind that these represent a personal opinion.....

My NOT Top 10 WDW Rides

10. NOT a thing.

9. NOT a thing.

8. NOT a thing.

7. NOT a thing.

6. NOT a thing.

5. NOT a thing.

4. NOT a thing.

3. NOT a thing.

2. NOT a thing.

And drumroll for the top item in my NOT Top 10 WDW Rides.......

1. NOT a thing.

I'm too scared  to post anything negative about Disney on the DisBoard. I'll get soooooo many complaints that I'll be banned for life! :rolleyes1

Now, if the topic was rides I would NOT get on at WDW, that's a different matter......

Light Bulb!

Sounds like a great topic for my next post on this NOT thread. :rotfl2:

Hey! When is your DH's convention in SF? That would be super fun to meet up! Would it be all three of you? There's only one thing we have going on in January, but for the past couple years, we've only attended one day, so if it's around that time, I'm sure we could work around it.

It's just a glimmer of a plan at the moment. He needs to be in SF for the week commencing 31 Jan. I was thinking we could fly into LA sometime in the week before, go to DLR and drive up the coast to SF. Nothing definite at the stage and it would be the 3 of us.
When is your commitment in January?

Our thing would be the 13-16 and we always like to go on the 13th because every day just gets crazier and crazier. We like to go the first day and take care of business, and then get the heck out of dodge. Funny thing it is at the Anaheim Convention center.

So we will probably be chillin in So Cal whenever you come to town. Make sure you and I PM before you buy any park passes....It would be fun to meet up with you, DH and DS. We could even do some non-Disney stuff as well since you would obviously have a car. Once you finish your NOT NOT going to WDW trip, we'll have to talk! This sounds like fun!

DH and I were thinking of flying out of Oz on the 25th or 26th Jan. Not exactly sure which day. So, we'd spend a couple of nights in Anaheim and a couple of nights driving up the coast. I'd like to stop in Solvang, San Simeon and Ojai; plus all the other scenic beaches up the PH1. Have you driven up the coast much and is there any hidden gems we should stop and see?

We've driven up the 101, which is not the coast. I drove up the coast once about 25 years ago, it was scenic but very slow. My favorite hidden gem has evidently closed, it was a German restaurant in Shell Beach. However, we generally enjoy stopping in Paso Robles or other Wine Country areas for Wine Tasting. We usually do the 101 to drive to my parents house. They live in Saratoga which is south of San Jose (south of SF). If you know about where the personal computers started, it was in our backyard, less than 3 miles away from our home. We usually stop at a Best Western on the way back and forth and usually take our time. One journey we stopped at a couple of the Missions and got a California history lesson. There is tons you could do and see Hearst Castle is nice, and you can find some very yummy food in Solvang. I’m not sure about much in Ojai. What we would like to do up there is go to a restaurant that serves abalone that is farm raised nearby.

I'm going to have fun researching after Halloween. I've always wanted to see Ojai. We've done Hearst Castle about 10 years ago and DS has been seeing PH1 on TV; so he is keen to drive it. :thumbsup2

In the short time that I will NOT not be at WDW in 17 days time, one thing had troubled me.......when did I think I was going to go to DTD?

Well, the answer to date had been.....NOT possible to squeeze it in. Afterall, what with the long flight and potential jetlag; stuffing my face at F&W, going for two MNSSHP AND hitting MK for EMH, I did NOT think that the scheduling a trip to DTD was at all possible.
This thought had made me sad.....until now.

I just saw the update on the DisBoard....looks like DTD common areas will be opened from 8 am till 1 am. I'm hoping and assuming that this means that the shops will be opened from these times? :confused3 If so, I think I might just about be able to squeeze a visit in.....I just need to work out which night! :rotfl:
