Picky Eater... HELP!

Surely not if you explain the situation in advance? May be worth checking with them though

They charge everyone - I've only seen it posted two or three times that a tube fed, clearly disabled child wasn't charged.

I'm not even 100% sure you can bring outside food into a TS restaurant?

Thanks everyone for your positive responses. We have decided to just do Biergarten, as I feel that there will be more of a selection for him. Teppan Edo may end up being a mommy/daddy date nite

Yup and you can bring food in (usually) but they won't reheat anything. I also personally think it's rude but whatever

Help would be to start making dinner at home with things other than chicken and fries. Put it in front of the 7 year old. They either eat what is for dinner or go to be hungry.

It may sound harsh, but it is what you have to do as a parent to make sure your kids have proper nutrition and you as a parent can enjoy dinner too.

take away their access to snacks as well. After a week of being hungry, your child will decide being picky is not in their best interest. they will soon learn that food is good and they have been missing out.

My parents did this to me, I did this to my kids. It is so refreshing to know we can take an 8 year old and 14 year old to anyplace in the world and they will be able to eat whats on the menu.

This is NOT true for all kids. My 13 year old is a very picky eater. But it is not all due to taste. His is more a texture thing. Some things gag him. Pasta, potatoes, some beef, cheese, etc. Wheb he was little he ate anything. Until he had a bad experience with cheese. Now many textures gag him.

I think it's a state/federal law rather than "rudeness" which doesn't permit restaurants to do this, but somebody more knowledgable than I probably knows for sure.

Sorry I meant I thought it was rude to take food from one establishment into another. Not that the establishment was rude to not heat up the original food. This is what happens when I post before I drink coffee in the morning.

I get texture. I can't even be within 10 feet of jello without wanting to gag. But if it was severely limiting what my child could eat, I would probably seek assistance from a feeding specialist.

I usually do pretty well at buffets for my picky eater. It is low stress for him to try something new because he didn't just blow his one shot at a meal at whatever he tried to order. There is mac and cheese (although it is baked, not standard disney), and also breaded and fried pork cutlets, pretzel rolls, and desserts. My son would not have a hard time getting enough to eat here although he might not like 90% of what is on the menu.

It is anywhere else where you are bringing food from one establishment to use the facilities of another, but I think in Disney's case since they are making the money from it all (rather than two independent restaurant owners) this is not a huge deal.

I think it is tacky to do but I would be more worried that the brought in food would get cold by the time someone went and got in and brought it to the next place.

Oh good! I was just coming in to say that I've posted in other restaurant threads about my picky middle kid (loves fruit, vegetables, plain meats, etc, just has weird texture things) who loves Biergarten, especially the schnitzel, and has been very excited to go back. I think your kiddo will do just fine there!

Just a heads up - the mac n cheese, while being my most favorite mac n cheese in the world, is more like an eggy, custardy BAKED mac n cheese instead of noodles in a more liquid cheese. My entire family loves it, but it much more a noodle/cheese BAKE than what a lot of picky kids would consider mac n cheese.

Sooooo good, though. Give me that and their tomato salad and I will fork over the $60.

I was also going to comment that the Mac and Cheese at Beirgarten is not really a typical Mac and Cheese, if your child likes just about any type of pasta and cheese dish they will probably enjoy it but if they generally only like pasta with a
cheddar-y based sauce then the mac and cheese at Beirgarten won't be for them.

Some people in my party (all teens/adults and not to picky) liked it and some didn't, it's a total toss up.

Edit - I'm late to the party apparently, sorry about that. Glad to see you found something that will work for your family!

That's great that it worked for you and your family but that does not work for all kids. My oldest has SPD, probably eats healthier than most people as he prefers raw veggies to just about anything, but they don't have a lot of calories. We are always on the edge of intervention for his weight, so for him, we do have to cater to his particular and very picky tastes (no sauces or gravies, nothing mixed together, the few proteins he will eat). We can't restrict access to foods he will eat because in addition to being picky, he doesn't eat much at a time. We are thrilled whenever he eats anything. I once watched my youngest trying to show him the pulled pork he had in his bowl, trying to offer him some, and him running away gagging and crying like he was being tortured from the smell alone. So, no, that is not a solution for everyone. The picky eater question is very valid.

Pickiness also isn't necessarily the result of parenting. My youngest will eat and try just about anything set in front of him. He can identify pesto and other things by taste. We didn't raise him any differently than the oldest. I think many picky eaters have mild forms of SPD and no amount of tough love will change them.

OP - we have never done Biergarten as my picky eater probably wouldn't fare well there. Sounds like Mac & Cheese will help you out there (mine will only eat Kraft, the way his dad makes it). We are trying Teppan Edo though because steak is surprisingly on the approved list for him. I have found the menus at All Ears to be very helpful. Especially when is comes to QS. I typed up a list to carry of QS locations that have items he will eat so that we can run get him something from nearby if the QS place we stop at doesn't have anything on the menu he likes.
I agree. My daughter is on the Autism spectrum and is a very very picky eater. I know people say it is bad parenting but they have not walked a mile in my shoes and you choose your battles.

OP: San Angel Inn is great and they have chicken tenders. Biergarten has some variety as well and the pretzel bread sticks are great!
