All taken with 70-300vr wide open (Wide open as she goes anyway- not exactly the fastest lens.) Wish I had more time to partake in this months assignment- I have certainly been enjoying following it. Great topic and great work by all!

Hi All!

I have to admit I'm a MAJOR lurker on the Photo Board and this thread. Time is not on my side to allow me to indulge in posting regularly but I just wanted to say you guys ROCK. :cool1: Your contributions and discussions have really helped my learning curve and in turn my photography has benefited.

Time to return the favor with a few quick ones to offer. All were taken with a Nikon D70. I will say some of your shots have me drooling over the Nikon 70-300 lens. That might have to be my next toy!

Here are a few from my recent trip (note that traveling with a 10 year old doesn't allow for much time for creative photography!!!). I'll post another in my next thread in honor of Halloween!

gdad, love the hippo! my 3 yr olds' favorite animal(thought sausage links were hippo tails for some odd reason and refused to eat them:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ) a ot ? just saw you can get a converter for nikon lens to canon body...probably does not allow electronic such as vr? i have to say, that lens seems pretty tempting even to a canonite...looks sharper than the canon version to me

Thanks- I really like the lens. For the cost and weight I have been really impressed with the results. (Not like lugging the 70-200/2.8vr monster around all day) :rolleyes1

Suburbanmom, your shallow DOF shots are amazing!!

All the shots on this thread are just wonderful, I am so excited to start getting some of my own.

As this is basically the same assignment as I am working on for the NYIP, I have a couple more shallow DOF ones. It is the deep DOF that I have a problem with. I don't seem to get a very sharp image at the deepest DOF for some reason. Maybe I'll try backing off the aperture a bit. They say to use the smallest possible aperture, but doesn't that make a less sharp pic, depending on the lens? I thought sharpest were f8-11 or so.

Here are three more shallow DOF's anyways.

I added a little extra "touch" to this just for the Dis boards. :)
