I'll second the Chatam Park area as being very nice, quiet and yet really short drive (probably less even than standing and waiting for the bus and it's ride!).
And even though you have to pay for parking (if you don't have an AP), it's still cheaper.....using the numbers from FoggyToad:
$741 for 10 days
$100 rental car
$110 parking ($11 x 10 days)
Total: $951 for 10 days....
that's $95.10 a day for a
house, everyone gets their own bedrooms, a full kitchen, a private pool, and peace and quiet! Sorry, but the only thing cheaper on site is the AllStars (if you get a deal) and they are small crowded and noisy! If you figure in that you also save $$ by having a kitchen, it probably comes up cheaper than even AllStars. We tend to do a filling breakfast at home, a late lunch in the park and then we go home for dinner many nights. By having a late lunch 1-2pm, we don't want dinner until 7pm anyway. If we are planning on night activities we go home late afternoon, rest, eat dinner and then return. For the mornings we have character breakfasts we will still come home for dinner most times. I tend to have a dinner of some kind in the crockpot (I bring a auto timer from home, like you use for lights on/off, and have the crockpot set to turn off at a certain time. If we decide not to come home after all, the food doesn't over cook, but stays warm for several hours so when I get home I put it in the fridge to reheat the next day. Gives us flexibility to stay if we really want to, and still doesn't waste the food, and I don't have to actually cook!).
