How early do you need to get there to start relatively close to the front of the back corral? I had plans to submit a time, but I could only find one late fall 10K near here and I slacked on my training before it and did not do it.I have dropped back to start in the last corral with friends and we never had a problem with timing. We tried to start relatively close to the front of the corral, be even so as long as we kept moving, we were good. I'd really only be concerned if your average is hovering right at or above the 16 min/mile.
Thanks! I will probably do that. I am running the race with some friends, but they all submitted times and will be in other corrals. So I should be able to work my way up.We were not early, I think we got in maybe 30-45 minutes before the start. What we did do was go single file and worm our way up through all the space left by the people in front of us. You have to be willing to take advantage of that, and then continue to do so as the corrals move up. I don't think we were at the very front, but we were comfortable.
Ok so it's not just me then! I always feel like I am running super fast on the treadmill even when I'm only going between 11:30-13:00. I am doing run/walk so that's why my overall pace ends up around 14:00 so far on the long runs... it's more like 12:30-13:00 on the weekday ones.I run faster outside than I do on the treadmill. I think it's a function of being able to adjust your pace to how you feel without dealing with electronics. For some reason treadmill running just seems harder to me.
I just saw your post over on the DLR board, and I'm super excited!
I'm 98% excited, 2% scared. Or maybe I'm 98% scared, 2% excited? Either way, it will be fun!
Here's hoping I survive my first half this weekend!
Can you tell me if they still have them? I'm considering it now!!A Travel Agent still has Pixie Dust Challenge bibs ... I need someone to talk me out of this.
I am staying at a friends house for this race (a first for me, always been in hotels). And I am finding this prospect both terrifying and exciting. Terrifying because I have to rely on them completely to get us to the start and I don't have control on when we get to said start line since I am staying there. Exciting because well she is a close friend and staying at her place ought to be fun (even if she won't be there for the first two days). I think there is going to be a lot of 'Excuse me pardon me' going through my corral on 10k and half morning because I don't think I am going to be getting their as early as I'm used to (pre-corral opening). Unless the corral placements surprise me somehow I am going to be placed further back then I like because of the lack of ability to submit times at expo anymore. So I want to be up front in the corrals but I can't exactly force afore mentioned friends to get up to early. There doing the 5k and 10k so we have to get there at a reasonable time. But they aren't doing the half (which means her Mom (and possibly friend depending on work) is going to have the interesting excursion of being up three mornings in the row).
Part of me wishes I was staying in a hotel. Just because it would be less anxiety inducing and I would get to expo on opening on Thursday (yeah that's not happening, afternoon will be the earliest). But get to save some money here means hopefully I get to spend it on another race down the road.
