Anybody do this on the Dream recently? Does the Dream have the medals again yet? Going in May.
Is it typical for Disney not to let runners off first?
How do you find out info about where and when to meet on board?

Hey we're on the same cruise My daughter is an avid runner and is plannign on doing the run, I want to do it with her but I don't want to be the last across the finish line. I am not a runner but I can walk. My son my run too.
Look forward to meeting you PlutosMom319
I totally agree-that was my motto for Princess Half, didn't finish last but at the bottom of the pack. I didn't think I would finish, but I did-Being last is better than not starting at all. You should do it.
I am thinking about doing the CC5K, but I am not a runner what so ever (partially due to injury that prevents me from running), so how bad does it look to walk the 5K?
We were some of the first off in Feb, but we were there nice and early, and we met nice and early, too.
The Navigator for the Cay day (which is given out the evening before) will tell you where and when.
nannylori, you walked 1 minute longer than I jogged. Good job!
Just got off the Fantasy yesterday.
Walked the CC 5k in 47 minutes... almost crawled across, but at least I finished. Going to frame that bib!!! No kidding!!!
Received a plastic medal that's worth it's weight in gold to me!!!!!!
Yes, I DID buy a shirt and put it on right then.
Yes, I did eventually cramp up and hobble about the Cay,but it was still a great day.
Met up in the Tube at 9:15, but due to a little poor planning on the part of DCL, NOT Megans fault, we didn't get to the start area(bike rentals), until at least 10:30. At least half the people started on their own, using their own watches as timers. It's all about personal best......
We are just off the Fantasy and I did the 5K on Castaway Cay (Friday March 15). Here is my experience...
The navigator said to meet in the Tube night club at 9:15am, which is when I arrived. There was a LONG line of people getting race bibs, in the end over 140 people had signed up. I was not expecting this, but I thought it was great that so many people were running. We were supposed to leave the ship at 9:30am, that didn't happen. The captain did not give the all clear for the ship until maybe 10am and then the runners were in line to get out with everyone else. I thought I had read that the runners were let off before everyone else? This did not happen on our cruise. I'm pretty sure my family was off the ship and at the beach at least 20 minutes before we arrived at the start line.
It look a long time to get off the ship, and then the CM told us she had to wait until everyone (all 140 people were off) before heading to the start line. Some of us waited and some went ahead. I waited with others for another 5 minutes and I few of us started to walk over while she waited for the rest. Its a long walk over to the start (5-10 minute walk?). We waited again, maybe another 5-10 minutes. Some people decided to run on their own without the "official" clock. By the time the CM got over and started the clock it must have been close to 10:45pm? Not sure on the exact times. I could have went ahead and started on my own but I wasn't exactly sure where to go and wanted to see the clock when I finished.
The course is marked but I am not confident that I did the route correctly. We started just before the bike rentals and followed the trail to the run way and then took the right into the wooded bike trail, completed the bike trail loop, and then turned right and ran up to the end of the run way, back down the run way, and turned left into the bike trail loop again. When I came out of the bike trail for the 2nd time I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, as the CM tending the water station was not there! Was I supposed to go up to the end of the run way again towards the Adult beach again, or head back towards the bike rentals and the start line? When I came out of the bike trail loop the 2nd time it was ~30 minutes after the start of the run so I figured someone should have been there. I am 2nd guessing the route as my time was longer than I would have expected.
Everyone that finished got a plastic medal which is a very nice keepsake. They also had t-shirts for sale at one of the kiosks.
Overall I am very happy that I did the run, but a little disappointed in the organization. I guess I didn't have to wait around so this was my choice. I am also lucky we didn't plan any morning excursions, as doing the run was a priority for me.
This was my experience, I hope it provides some useful information.
If anyone can tell me if I was supposed to go up to the top of the runway twice that would be great!
Looking forward to planning my next cruise to Castaway Cay so I can do the run again.
I went to google, did an Image search for "castaway cay medal" and the very first picture showed me the medal and bib. Click on the image and it pulls up a few more pictures, one of which is the shirt you can buy.
The medal is plastic and says "winner". It's the same medal they use on the ships for other things; I saw a picture of a teen who won a basketball contest of some sort with the same medal. ("winner" makes more sense for that, LOL)
Found it! Thank you!
CanuckTraveller said:For anyone who is interested, I managed to add the Castaway Cay course to my list of routes on the map my run app. I searched "Abaco" and scanned around, Castaway Cay shows up just south of the main island of Abaco.
I thought it was really cool
I saw a few posts in the beginning of this thread about kids but none in the more recent replies. Is there an age requirement or this? I think my 10 yr old would love to do it with me.
I was wondering if my garmin would map it when I run.
