I have a budget of $725 for groceries this month. I bought GCs last month because there was a good points deal on them. Since I counted those in last months' spend I won't count anything that comes from there in my buys. Other than that I count everything that isn't a monthly bill or gas. Also all groceries that aren't on those GC.

Pretty sure today will be a no buy (7 of 10) and with 11 days to month end, I may just meet my goal! Woot! Woot! Just doing this has helped so much with the mindless spending! Some days I'll save it up... do all the shopping on one day, but it's definitely helped me to be more conscious of stopping "just for a soda" or whatever.

October 14 - No Buy (2/18)

End of the month is doing better then the beginning of the month. We were doing some home improvement projects and they were nickel and diming me to death. I'm not going to make it obviously, but trying to get as close as possible.

I need to order some big ticket items, tires for my car, ka-ching, and a new supply of contacts for next year. I may buy them in October just so I can have a very successful November. I don't really look at those things as "buying" because they are not optional, but it's still a psychological thing, ya know what I mean?

October 15-$23.16 on gas
October 16-$0
October 17-$$38.07 on groceries at WalMart.
October 18-$0
October 19-$0
October 20-$0

Spent the day at my Dad's helping him with some paperwork and making a small dent in the huge pile of stuff we have to sort through before he can put the house on the market. This is extremely depressing and hard on both of us. I brought leftovers from home to have (Dad eats at the assisted living.) but really wasn't hungry.

Beer for dinner.

So I'm back on track, but already had made a mess of this month. Went over budget in almost every category, groceries, gas, personal spending. The only thing I can say with groceries is that I filled the freezer with meat. I don't know what it is about this time of the year that makes me want to fill my tree with nuts, ya' know what I mean? It turned a little chilly here and the thought of going to the store in 0 degree temps just makes me sick. I would rather fill up the freezer now.

All of the other spending was directly related to two things, a home improvement project that DH embarked on and DD homecoming expenses. The home improvement project was far and above the biggest problem this month. The only good things is that it is complete. I am looking at a stellar November. It has to be stellar, in order to reach my savings goals I can't have another October.

I actually did spend, but I had to take my dog into the vet, I suspected an ear infection and I was right. I'm not going to penalize myself a No Buy day because she needed medical care. Executive decision to take a No Buy day anyway.

On the flip side I am back on track with prepping food on Sunday for the week. SOOOOOOO much easier to not have to cook after a day of work and school. It also makes it so much easier to stay on budget, no convenience food or dinner out. I also have been eating the leftovers for lunch, which saves a bunch.
Yesterday we had chicken parm, spaghetti squash and broccoli, today was meatballs, mash and gravy Ala Rachel Ray along with some frozen peas. Tomorrow we'll be using up the leftovers in a smorgasbord, nuke whatever you like, extravaganza.
