i didnt know that disney donated the money to charity cool! thats just sad, I mena really and the grandfather just sits there? I guess thats why I didn't win the disney vacation like I wished for when I through my coin in the exact fountain :/ oh well.

That was wrong for them to do, but unless they're doing something that's disrupting other guests Disneyland security cant really do anything to make them stop. Cast Members cant really do anything to make them stop either since its not part of their job to.

Actually the Cast Member can ask them to stop stealing money and to get out of the fountain. Failure to do that will be a call to security and if necessary the local law enforcement. Disney owns them coin collecting things and the property they are on as well as the coins. It is stealing from Disney thus Disney can have the person jailed for theft, passes revoked, and park eviction a in escorted to Harbour Blvd or at least out of the park.

it depends on the CMs who sees the theft in progress and if they care as well as if they can do anything at the time.

You're right, they could call security and security could call the cops but if what they're taking is under $250 they wont go to jail, they'll be forced to give the money back and leave the park. And most likely go to court. But that's about it.

Actually jail time still could happen if the grandfather was charged with aiding and abetting a minor in crimes and the delinquincy of the minor. also child protective services would be called in since the grandfather was not a fit guardian for the child. A whole can of stinky worms for the grandfather or whatever that dude was to the kid.

I will wait for the legal experts to hypothesis on what could happen in a worse case scenario.

The park I worked at had a similar situation last summer. Both the kid and his father were handcuffed but since the money they stole was under $250, they were banned from the park and we got the money back. My department dealt with all the money that comes into the park I worked at and my boyfriend's department did the arresting.
