Hi

We've just returned from our first med cruise and booked again for next year !! Anyone else sailing on this one ??

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list pixiedust:

Have a great cruise!

Hi

We've just returned from our first med cruise and booked again for next year !! Anyone else sailing on this one ??

We did a Med cruise in July & booked this one while on-board. I will be traveling with my then 15 year old daughter.

My DH and I will be traveling on this cruise and I am so confused by all the Port Excursions that are offered. We have been on Disney cruises before but always to the Caribbean. This will be our first Mediterranean cruise and I want to choose Port Excursions that are great! We will be celebrating our 45th anniversary and want to see and do it all! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA.

Hi,

I just booked this cruise for our family. DH and DD (5) and myself. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise but first outside of the Caribbean. We are sooo excited! I know it's a long way away, but am looking forward to all the excursion and sightseeing planning. We are up for a FE list as well if there is going to be one.

I booked onto this cruise this weekend for myself and DD who will be 12.
Flying into Barcelona earlier in the week and having a few days at Port Aventura theme park first.

We would also be interested in a fish extender! and getting to know some of our fellow passengers before we sail.

We've cruised the Med 3 times before but not with Disney and have visited some of the ports before, so may be able to answer questions??
This year we will be concentrating on enjoying the ship and visiting some beaches, rather than full on sightseeing!

Gillian.

DisneyGrandmom, note you are looking for some help with excursions.

From Naples I'd recommend Pompeii, we did a guided tour from a cruise a few years ago and really enjoyed it, we had been about 10 years previously and did a self tour and didn't enjoy it nearly as much. Is really hot in the ruins though!

From Civitavecchia, looks like we have loads of time to go to Rome as we don't sail until midnight. I may try to persuade my DD to do a trip this year as we didn't do one the last time we were here.
Civitavecchia itself is a large port and not much to recommend there.

Villefranche, never been to this port before but have tendered into Monte Carlo, love Monte Carlo though and would recommend 3-4 hours there to see the palace the marina, the casino, grand prix circuit etc.

Have fun planning! Gillian

Booked today for DH and I and 2 of our kids and will be booking for my parents and last child tonight LOL.

In terms of excursions we did this same cruise one last year and booked again !! This time the cruise goes the opposite way..

We did "easy Pisa" with Disney. I've got fatigue issues and it was fab for this. McDonald's in Pisa - free wifi...

Villefrance - well my husband did the full day tour with Disney (Monte Carlo, Monaco and eze) which he enjoyed but the girls (10 and 8) and I just went to the beach.

You get off the magic onto a little tender boat and it takes you to the centre of villefrance. Literally across the road is a cute little market selling souvenirs etc and ice cream.
About 5 minutes walk along the seafront past loads of cafes (wifi with a drink) and there is a gorgeous beach. It's not sand - it's like really soft stones and the shallow water is so warm. We sat for hours on the beach and it was the girls favourite day (and mine) by far.
On the way back to the ship we passed this little tourist train so went on this - it's about 20 minute round trip up to the top of the hill to get the most amazing views (and he stopped so we could get photos) and back again. Can't remember exactly how much - around 15 euros for the three of us.

This is our plan for this port - girls want to snorkel as loads of other kids were but we couldn't find the kits for sale anywhere so will take them with us this time.

We did Rome with a third party cruise excursion - not sure if I can post the link but they were fab and literally a third of the Disney price. Funnily enough everywhere we went the Disney excursions followed.
They promised to make it back on time or they take you to your next port. This is exactly the same promise the Disney excursions make although I guess the ship might wait for them a bit longer !!
Rome was a very full on day - very hard going, very hot and humid with loads of walking quickly on cobbled streets which were really busy. Amazing place right enough. This time it might be better as its a much later all aboard time.

Naples was our last port - we got off the ship, walked out the port, decided we were too tired from Rome and it was too hot so turned round and went back to the pool instead...
There is a nice little shopping centre you walk through at the Naples port - it's got 3 or 4 souvenir shops and a free wifi cafe (buy a drink for the code) and a shop with Italian sweets.
Next summer we will do Pompeii...

We would love to do fish extender - anyone up for organising it ???

We're on this cruise, too! Our first cruise ever, our 20th anniversary with our two kiddos:cool1: Is this the thread I find info about fish extender stuff?

So excited!!:cheer2:

...We are up for a FE list as well if there is going to be one.

PLEASE review the Cruise Meet Policy regarding Cruise Meet and Fish Extender programs. - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3353477

Links to Cruise Meet discussion/Fish Extenders other than those on the DIS may not be posted or offered by any other means (PM, email, "search" directions, etc.).

Cruise Meet threads are doing just fine still managing meet and FE discussions right here on the DIS as they have since FE began (also here on the DIS).

FE organizers generally need to know how many people (adults/children) are participating in each cabin with child ages for age appropriate gift giving. Other information you would like to share such as names, allergies, favorite characters, etc. is up to you. Other personal information is not really necessary. Those organizing FEs typically ask for the information to be posted in the meet thread or sent to them via PM.

For those posting in this Cruise Meet thread to join a FE, since no one has come forward to organize one for this cruise here on the DIS, please feel free to organize the FE right in this thread. There is certainly plenty of time to plan a FE for this cruise. All it takes is for someone to maintain a list of/for those participating which can easily be done in this thread. Many Cruise Meet threads have been doing it this way for years now here on the DIS.

Enjoy! :)

Hi RutgersAlum, how old are your children?
My DD is 12 and would love to chat to other kids before we sail.
She did the in 2013 before we sailed on the AoS.
Gillian. :)

We are from Southampton, UK and have only sailed from our home port before.
I am already starting to stress about having to pack everything for a cruise inc formal plus for 5 days in Barcelona / Theme Parks into 2 cases.

Where is everyone else from? Assuming we are all flying into Barcelona!

Gillian.

:wave2: Just stopping by to say hi. I will be sailing on this cruise with my family as well (My Mom, DH, DD13 by the time we cruise, and DS11, turning 12 a few days after we disembark will be traveling with me)

Looking forward to our 1st Med Cruise :goodvibes

Happy Planning everyone!

Hi. Yes party of 10, all new to a cruising going-so excited. Do u know how we sign up to the fish extender exchange

Hola! We just signed up for this cruise - it's me, DH, DS (14), DS (12), and DD (11). We are super excited!

This will be our third cruise on DCL, first on the Magic. We've done the 4-day Caribbean & 7-day California Coast, both on the Wonder. We're looking forward to seeing how the Magic compares!

If there's not an FE list started, I'd be happy to coordinate one.

Looking forward to planning our trip!

It is very different sailing from Southampton as yu don't have to worry about the luggage, we are from Leicestershire and did Portaventura then a Disney cruise 2 years ago You will love Portaventure travel very very light it is very hot and there are plenty of pools at the park, the ship is very informal and you can go to dinne rin shorts and teashirt, what we have learned is that as there is a great laundry on the ship just take enough light clothes for 5 days and wash them in the laundry. You will love the ship it is by far the best we have been on my daughter now 15 wont have any other holiday.
