K-Mart ad. What do you think?

Brilliant....the marketing firm came up with a genius plan...they made a funny, slightly controversial ad that went viral on YouTube and got shown (for free) on all the morning news shows and got everybody talking about KMart. It doesn't matter if this ad ever gets aired on tv as a paid commercial or not... They got lots of $$$$$ worth of buzz for KMart already.

Nowadays, going viral is the goal of all marketing firms. And it's easy to see why. I thought it was funny. And I hate Kmart because my DH used to be a store manager there and when all the closings were going on in 2002-2003, the managers were assured by the higher-ups not to worry about their particular stores. They actually told the managers, "if you are buying a house, no need to back out, go ahead and buy that new car you have had your eye on, there is no need to worry about your store". And about 2 months later, DHs store got the word they were closing. So I'm a little bitter. But, that's OT. Clever commercial.

I thought it was funny. Just too bad it isn't true. K Mart's shipping fees are really high. Much higher than WalMarts. That is why I buy everything from WalMart for my grandchildren since they live in another state.

Cringe-worthy. :rolleyes1 I don't find vulgarity funny. Thank goodness for pvr technology that means I'll never have to see it again - does ANYBODY even watch commercials anymore??

There wasn't any vulgarity in it. Perhaps you should get your mind out of the gutter ;).

It does not bother me.

We only have one Kmart in our entire city. Its near my son's school, so sometimes I go in there to kill some time. I went yesterday, and in the garden section, they had a lot of cute Disney items. Also, they had a Mickey Mouse bathroom set.

That was cute the first time. If I had to see it 500 times, I'd start to get aggravated.

But that's why God made DVR.

I find the commercial to be somewhat crass and infantile... doesn't mean I didn't crack a little grin, though. Doesn't really make me more likely to shop at Kmart, though, and isn't that the point of advertising?

I can't stand Kmart, but I think the ad is hilarious!! When they showed in our nightly news, the poor newscaster was laughing so hard after the story, he could barely read his script.

Harmless and somewhat humorous.

The Hardee's soft porn ads are the ones I can't stand.

Funny, but won't make me shop there any more than now (which is very infrequently).

This is just like those booking.com commercials, where they are saying:

"look at the booking view"
"it doesnt get any booking better than this"
"you got it booking right"

One of our local banks is currently running a similar ad campaign. "It's banking fantastic". "I like the whole banking place", etc

The Hardee's soft porn ads are the ones I can't stand.

Nobody likes a sexy woman more than me, but those are just a bit too creepy. I think the fact they try to make the girls look even younger than they are is what does me in.

I think it was funny! "I just shipped my bed!" That got me LOLing.

Now that we have to tighten our belts, I MIGHT now look at KMART and their shipping as we don't have one near us at all. Might be good for household items we normally paid more for in the past.

I didn't even have KMART on my radar until I saw this. Completely forgot about them.

I have to agree with others - it is brilliant. Immature and stupid, but just "off color" enough to get people talking without seriously offending anyone. They'll get more exposure off of the buzz from this ad than they could even dream of buying via paid ad time, and increasingly "going viral" is the holy grail of marketing because it makes a greater impression on a wider audience than simply airing the ad on TV.
