Just Back from Wilderness Lodge

Just back from a 5 night/6 day stay at the Wilderness Lodge. We stayed at the lodge for the first time in December, and enjoyed it so much that we knew that on our next trip to Disney, we had to stay at the lodge.

This trip did not disapoint. We had an early flight in, and arrived at the lodge around 10:30 AM. We took the Magical Express, and were greeted at the door by a cast member who knew our family's name! (How they knew, I do not know, but it was a magical moment!) He then escorted us to the Check-In desk, where Ricky was waiting to check us in. Ricky told us that it was his first week on the job, but he did a great job checking us in, and had a room ready for us at 10:30. We were upgraded from a standard view to a Villas Courtyard View, which ended up being a nice, quiet location for us.

Our room was nice and clean when we arrived, and our Mousekeeper, Gloria, did a wonderful job all week keeping our room clean and even arranging our stuffed animals and making us towel animals. Our luggage was delivered within 3 hours of our arrival.

We ate at Roaring Forks every morning for breakfast, and we were thrilled to find that they have added Mickey waffles to the breakfast lineup. On our last stay at the Wilderness, we had decided the only thing that we didn't like about the lodge was the lack of waffles. Well...problem solved! :thumbsup2 We also had dinner one evening at the lodge. We had lunch at Le Ceiller and we were only slightly hungry, and were delighted that we could get soup using a snack credit. The minestrone was wonderful, and helped us warm up from being out in the rain!

The cast members at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. We ordered a large Mickey balloon (about 4 feet tall) from the Disney gift line, and a cast member at the front desk deflated him for us so that we could pack him in our suitcase to go home. We also had a family member call us at the lodge one night, and was tickled pink that the cast member wished her "a magical evening" before transfering her to our room.

Bus service was very good, in fact, better than I remember in December. We had not known about the bus to the Magic Kindgom, but once we found this bus we thought that it got us to the Kindgom a little quicker than the boat.

So, overall, we had a wonderful time at the Wilderness Lodge. Due to the heavy rain on two of our vacation days, this gave us the opportunity to explore and really enjoy the lodge, rather than being so park-focused. There is no question that we will be returning to the lodge on our next trip!

Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll try my best to answer them!:goodvibes

Thanks for sharing :). I'm glad you had a great time....the WL is a beautiful resort.......we've had 2 wonderful stays there and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again :goodvibes.

Great to hear!!! We are taking the plunge and having our first "deluxe" experience in July 2012. We are very excited to be staying at the WL!!! As you were there in the summer...how was the weather? Was the pool crowded? We hardly ever even do hotel pools, but we also usually travel in the fall/winter...I'm thinking on a July trip, we are going to be using the pool ALOT...;)

Good to know! I'm going there next month and I'm excited about it. Actually, I was planning on heading to another resort one morning for the Mickey waffles but I'm glad to hear that they have them now! ;)

Hi Mousemommy,

We had about two days of almost solid rain, which was pretty unusual for August. Normally there is just a passing storm in the afternoon. The good news about the rain is that it helped keep the temps down. We headed out to the parks in our ponchos and Crocs and made the best of the weather.

The other days we were there were really hot! Average was around 95 degrees and with the humidity it felt much worst. The best advice I can give is to be at the park at rope drop, do an early lunch in the park, and then rest or swim in the afternoon. The pool was busy, but we had no problem finding a chair. We also used the "quiet" pool (located between the lodge and the villas) and had no problem getting a spot there.

Hope this helps!

The quiet pool was great the one day we used it. The pool party was a bit loud for my tastes but the kids loved the slide in the big pool.

We just loved the WL during our stay 8/1-8/7 Not much rain other than a couple of thunderstorms.

I am debating for my 40th bday either the Poly or going back to WL which we haven't stayed at for several years but is our favorite. Are the rooms looking worn or still in good condition?

We have stayed at WL for the past 3 years. Ready your post bought tears to my eyes. I can not wait to return home to WL. The old saying "there is no place like home" is so true

In my opinion, the rooms are still in fairly good condition considering how many people stay in the rooms. Our room didn't have any major signs of wear, and was kept very clean (which, for me, is a bigger deal than the wear). It might also depend on what room you are in. Some rooms might have more wear than others.

We can't wait for our trip in October. It's been a few years since we've stayed at our favorite resort.

I am very glad you had a wonderful stay. I am hoping for a nice weekend there in November. It's our first WL stay. Lately all the reviews of WL have been great :thumbsup2 Mickey waffles :yay:

Awesome!!! One more question...you mentioned getting there at 10:30 and had a room ready...from everything I've read, the check in is at 4 pm (which I feel is pretty late) and DH and I want to get an early flight in on our day of arrival to explore the resort and have time for meals, etc...Do you think this will be a problem? Would they be able to hold our luggage if there is not a room available yet?

I'm pretty sure all of the resorts can hold your luggage no problem.
They can also hold your luggage on your last day so you can enjoy a day in the park before heading out.

I seem to recall (and this is many years ago) my mom went once, they held her luggage and her room was not ready, but they let her use another room to rest after her flight, etc. I think it was at a value...

Thanks for the reply. I have always wanted to stay at Poly but WL is home to us and I want all my favorite things for my bday!

I heard they have a place where you can sit outside and Watch Disney Movies -- Is this true ???????/

Glad to hear you had such a positive stay at WL. DH and I will be staying at WL for our 3rd time in October and are very excited to be heading back there.

Thanks for the favorable review. We are staying there for the first time in 8 DAYS so it's nice to see positive reviews from someone who just came back! I have a feeling that we are going to LOVE it there!
