I'm Just Here for the Food. The Disney Food. April 3-11, 2015 - Complete (6.25.15)

Wow...looks like MK was crazy crowded that day!! I guess this is one of those times you can't beat FP+... That Stitch on the head pic was pretty funny! Love the detail around Fantasyland!

It was pretty nuts that day. We just had to roll with it.

Very nice report so far! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for following!!

I am all caught up now, we are going to try Teppan Edo our next trip. The resort looks nice, the pool was quiet which is nice. Are you able to walk to Downtown Disney?

Teppan Edo is yum. Yes, you can walk there. It isn't far. You can also take the boat there.

Ooh...Memento Mori. Is that a Haunted Mansion gift shop or something?

Yes!! It has all Haunted Mansion Merch. Very cool.

Happy Mother's Day Susan!!!

Thanks!! It has been a good day.

All caught up! The thing I love about Teppan Edo is the noodles. The Japanese hibachi restaurant in our area serves rice instead of noodles.

I liked the noodles, too. They served rice at Teppan Edo in addition to the noodles, but it wasn't very good.

I love those crocs! I would wear those! After I turned 40, I can no longer wear sandals that have something between the toes. It has to be a slip on, which really limits the options.

It does. I prefer not to have something between my toes, but I can handle it for a little while. These sandals are very comfy.

You've really never been in the Tiki Room?! Look at me, judging you while I've haven't been in it since 1990!

Yes. I can see the nostalgic appeal, but I'm OK with doing it once.

My Golden Spoon would be pretty pathetic. We seem to eat at the same places that are our favorites.

We eat a lot of the same places, too because the kids are so picky, so it would be a waste to go somewhere they don't like. I'm a firm believer of not fixing what isn't broken. And if they like a place, we go back.

That cinnamon roll at Gaston's Tavern looks fantastic! I've only had the LeFou's Brew there.

It was very sweet, but very good.

Looking at those wait times for the Mine Train remind of the time we were there with record capacity crowds. Yikes!

It was Spring Break, so yes, it was pretty packed.

After that, it was time for a meal at the Plaza!!

Thanks for sharing all those pics! I love the ones of Tom Sawyer Island because we have yet to make it over there...definitely a must do for us next time!! The parade pics are great too...another thing I haven't ever sat still and watched the whole thing!!

Great FoF photos! Did you have to wait long to get that close?

I like Tom Sawyer Island because it is rarely crowded. It's fun to do that when everything else is packed.

I love that parade. We just happened to walk up as it was passing by. Me and the kids were a few rows back, but we could see fine and DH took the photos since he's lots taller than I am. I recommend it. It is so colorful and fun. And did I mention the dragon was COOL?? It's cool. Just sayin.

We did not have to wait. We just walked up as it was going by. Jerry took the photos.

It turned out to be kind of crowded over there and they had all three boats running and they were packed every time. But we didn't have to wait long and it was something fun to do while we were waiting for our FP's for Big Thunder. It was fun. I even think the ice cream shop was open over there that week.

Day 5 – Part Four

When I last left off, we had just toured Tom Sawyer’s island, rode Big Thunder and headed towards Main Street for lunch at the Plaza.

[/URL
]

We had an ADR, so we got seated pretty soon. But we had to wait a while for our waitress to come. More on her later.

We ordered and waited for our food. And waited …….

FINALLY, it arrived.

DH and DS got the burger.

Angus Chuck Cheeseburger- served on a flour-dusted kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Choose from the following toppings: Cheddar, American cheese, Bacon, Grilled Mushrooms and Grilled Onions $15.99

DD got chicken strips, that I don’t think are on the menu, but they brought some anyway.

I got a Rueben.

Grilled Reuben- thinly sliced corned beef on grilled marble rye with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing $12.49

It was yummy!!

So then it was time to order dessert and before we could tell our waitress what we wanted for dessert, she asked us point blank – “since you are on the dining plan, how are you going to pay for your tip?”

Wait ……..WHAT?? Now I have had Disney waiter/waitresses “remind” me that the tip wasn’t included, but I have never been blatantly asked how I was going to pay for it. I thought it was unspeakably rude and even though she wasn’t an awful waitress, she wasn’t great either. I was like WOW lady. We left a cash tip be the way and it was the lowest amount listed on the check. She might have gotten a better one if she had kept her mouth shut, but I am still bowled over by how rude she was about it.

Anyhoodle, we were able to order dessert without having to sign over our mortgage as collateral for our waitress’ tip.

DS and I got the Brownie Sundae.

Brownie Sundae- vanilla ice cream and a fudge brownie topped with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry $6.49

So YUM!!!

DD got the cheesecake - plain.

New York Style Cheesecake- served with strawberries $5.49

She loved it.

DH got a Banana Split.

Original Banana Split- chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream topped with hot fudge, strawberry sauce, crushed pineapple, chopped nuts, whipped cream and a cherry $8.49

Despite our unbelievably rude waitress, we really enjoyed our meal. The food was really good and we were stuffed when we left.

It certainly sounds like your waitress woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. :sad2:

At least your food was good! The burger and the reuben both look incredible!

She was a decent waitress. A little slow, but it was busy and we weren't in a hurry. But seriously, to ask out right how we are going to pay for our tip? RUDE.

The food was good we will definitely go back.

Wow...clearly sometimes people speak without thinking at all first! You would think her thought process might have been "if I ask them nicely about dessert, maybe they will leave me a bigger tip"....but it obviously came out all wrong lol. I'm glad the food was good at least!

I probably would have told her we would figure that out when the time came, and left it at that. Fingers crossed we do not get a server like that in October when we go back, as I'm not sure if my wife would be able to keep her comments to herself.

The Plaza food looks good, we haven't tried yet. We were there the same time and MK was sure busy. We never made it over to Tom Sawyer island maybe next trip. I have felt our service at times when we were on the DDP was not as good as when we have paid OOP. I can't believe she said that, I wonder if she has been stiffed a lot by people?

She was very deliberate about it. I wondered if we looked like the kind of people who wouldn't leave a tip? I dunno. We still talk about how rude it was.

I had a tough time, too. And I'm the type to usually say something. My husband who normally isn't bothered by stuff like that was really surprised. Seriously, we were like ....WOW

We really like the food there. It was pretty packed that day, but we just went back to the room and chilled. After 5 days, we were pretty tired. I always feel like we get great service, but I have had a few comments about the tip when we were on the dining plan. But the one was by far the most direct and the most rude.

Day 5 – Part 5

After lunch (which was really over about 3 since our reservation was at 1:00 something), DS headed back to the room and the rest of us went to check out the people mover.

We must have been pretty tired by then because the only other photos I have are of the food DH went and got for dinner. I’m guessing we went back to the room where I did some laundry and iced my ankle while DH took DD to the pool. DS spent that time on Face Time with his girlfriend. Something he did A LOT while we were there. I called it the Olivia show.

After that, DH and the kids went to Artist Palate to get some dinner.

DD got the flat bread pizza

Cheese Flatbread- Tomato Sauce and Cheese $8.99

DS got Chicken and chips.

Chicken Breast Nuggets- 8 pieces with House-made Chips or Vegetable Slaw $9.89

Artist Palate didn’t have french fries, they had these super crunchy and yummy house made chips. We really liked them.

I got a greek salad

Greek Salad with Chicken- Mixed Greens, Greek Vinaigrette, Chicken, Black Olives, Cucumbers, Feta, Red Onion, Pepperoncini, and Tomato $10.19

And DH got a Turkey and Brie sandwich.

Smoked Turkey and Brie Sandwich- Smoked Turkey, Brie Cheese, Fresh Arugula Spread, and Chambord-Cranberry Mayonnaise with House-made Chips or Vegetable Slaw $10.49

Actually, I had half of DH’s sandwich and he had half my salad.

For dessert, DS got a Mickey Bar

DD and I got the ice cream sandwiches.

It was all very good and we settled in for the night and went to sleep.

Next up – Day 6!!

That turkey and brie sandwich looks really good...and it's kind of different from the usual. Those crunchy chips look really good too.

Sounds like you had a great day at MK. You took lots of great pictures, thanks for sharing. :)

Your meal at the Plaza looks great despite the rude waitress. :thumbsup2

That sandwich was HUGE. It could easily be split between two people if you were watching your budget or dining credits. The chips were always good. We enjoyed them

Thanks!! I took a bunch more, but I can't get them all in my updates. I picked the best ones though. Yeah - that waitress - still shaking my head over that one.

Day 6 – Part one.

This was our rest day. The only thing we had planned on this day was Cape May dinner that evening. Otherwise, we were hanging at the resort.

DD LOVES the pool. She loves it. Loves the slides, loves to swim and loves to play with the other kids. So our plan on this day was some serious pool time.

We had planned to sleep in, but the kids woke us up at 9 AM (grrrrrr) saying they were hungry. So we got ready and headed down to Artist Palate for some grub.

I love the light fixtures there

I probably would have bought one of these if it wasn’t that ugly color. More color choices are necessary.

DS wasn’t all the hungry and had an apple and some of our bacon.

DS and DH went back to the room and DD and I headed down to the main pool which was already pretty packed by that time.

I’m just going to go on a rant here and say that the reserving of chairs was absolutely shameful. People would come and put a towel or a mug on a row of chairs and just leave and not come back – FOR HOURS. I found a nice shady spot with three chairs that had towels on them. Since there was a leaf on top of one of the towels, I knew someone had not been there for a while, so I just moved it and sat down. Now if someone had come back and said that spot was theirs, I would have gladly given it back. But we were there for THREE hours and no one claimed it or the other two chairs next to me. So I gave them away. There were some cast members trying to police it, but not well enough.

[/URL
http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/April 2015/Day 6/DSC02123.jpg.html]

All of the chairs in the above photo stayed empty the whole time we were there. It was seriously shameful.

[/URL
http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/April 2015/Day 6/DSC02124.jpg.html]

OK. I’ll get off my soapbox now. We had a great spot and DD enjoyed her time at the pool. I enjoyed scoping out spots for other people and foiling the chair savers. I read my book and watched the people.

At about 1 PM, DD was done with the pool and ready for some lunch.

That's really shameful about the chairs...if you aren't going to sit by the pool...let someone else have the chairs...gah. BUT resorts...should have more chairs so people don't feel the need to do this...either...just sayin' it is a problem everywhere! Other than that though...the Mickey waffles and bacon looked yummy...
