If i was in charge it to have have different regions of the USA featured each night. maybe have Sundays and Thursdays as "Eastern Flare" maybe feature food like Maine/New england seafood, Maryland crabs, and say Pennslyvania Dutch Food and other eastern foods. mondays and Fridays could be "Down home in the South" featuring great southern food from maybe Fried Chicken, to BBQ ribs, to Cajun food, and maybe some Tex-mex style foods. Tuesdays and Saturdays could " Northern Exposure" with foods from that area from say Chicago style Pizza to knockwurst and chedder links, and other foods. Wednesdays would be "Western Horizon" with say salmon/other fish from washington area, and california Wine country food . Iknow this is taking away from some of the other restraunts at WDW but I think it would be a hit! :cool1:

I would love to see a table service restaurant in the American Pavillion! :) It would be great if they could have dishes from each region every night instead of rotating. Some people might like characters at dinner, but that doesn't matter to me, one way or the other.

What about an "All American" Buffet? In the center, there could be a grill where chefs would be cooking up hamburgers, hot dogs and ribs.. served fresh right on to your plate!. Many of the dishes mentioned above could be served, plus lots of salads and vegtables like corn on the cob, grean beans, mashed potatos, etc. Pods would be nice, like at Boma, for the different regions. Dessert could included chocolate cake, watermelon and apple pie with ice cream!

Only problem with a buffet is the food quality may not be as high as "order off the menu" dishes.

I think they should put the Fireworks Factory in the American Pavilion. It was the BBQ restaurant that used to be in downtown disney/pleasure island and it was excellent. It would be great in the world showcase.

Very interesting idea! Just reading the category made me think of the regional idea. The question is either to make a large menu a la the Cheesecake Factory or do the buffet. I think they would have to break new ground for a buffet though. If regionalized, they would need to develop each areas "signature" dish as well as several other dishes to be served and rotated until their popularity could be gauged. I love this idea, and the popular American (german?) foods hot dogs and hamurgers would always be staples. Can you say certified Angus Meat?

Then you always could get signature dishes fro chefs such as Bobby Flay and Emeril to contribute their food ideas too, as well as some of those ribs and brisket guys that compete throughout the US. In fact, how about opening with a competition from those guys? It would be a sell out!!!!

I like the OP's idea of regional cooking. However, who would do the cooking? Nothing against Northern chefs, but no way do they cook anything like a Southerner. I can't imagine one cooking ribs, pinto beans, greens, cornbread, grits, chicken fried steak, Tex-Mex foods, gumbo, jambalaya, fried catfish, hushpuppies, green tomato relish, fried stuffed jalapenos, Bar-b-que brisket, etc. By the same token, I can't see a Southern chef being able to decently prepare some of the foods commanly eaten in other regions.

When I go up north I still forget to specify 'sweetened ice' tea and usually wind up with hot tea (yuck!).

I would definitely put a sit-down restaurant there--I've always envisioned a restaurant there that's similar the the Liberty Tree Restaurant

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.WHEN I GO DOWN SOUTH , IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING IS OVER SPICED! THAT BEING SAID DISNEY DOES WELL TO ATTRACT ALOT OF THE BETTER CHEFS WHO I THINK WOULD BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE A LOT OF THESE FOODS.YOU MENTIONED SO MANY FOOD JUST FROM 1 REGION THAT I DIDN'T THINK OF. THATS WHY I THINK IT WOULD BE A HIT BECUASE THERE WOULD BE SO MUCH TO OFFER! :stir:

This is a great idea. Or even if they didn't want to do a full sit down restaurant the could so a regional type food court. Kind of like the set-up of Pepper Market but with different American Regions. Some of them regions are covered by the resort sit down though. Hmmm, what kind of regions should they cover?

I LOVE THIS IDEA! I have always been disappointed that each country in the world showcase has spectacular sit down dining (ok except for germany its a buffet), but America has fast food only? What does that say about us?

I thought it would be great to do a midwestern menu, BBQ, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, there is no were in Disney that I have ever seen a good midwestern menu. (whispering canyon gets close) You could even technically put a deep dish pizza in there for Chicago.

The reason I didn't pick eastern is because seafood is pretty well represented at EPCOT already, even though I've been east several times and love the food there!

I think being able to have several regions represented somehow is great! But if they were to only choose one, I would suggest these:
Barbecue (featuring several styles: Kansas City style AND North Carolina style, Memphis, with pork and beef offered)
New Orleans
Tex-Mex or Southwestern

There is nowhere on property to get any of those. (as a whole theme/menu) Of course, LTT type Thanksgiving foods would work too, I guess, but seems a bit uninspired to me, as it already is available on property.

edited to add a nice wood fired pizza place might be nice too.

I just read on mouseplanet, that Liberty Inn is closed for refurbsihment, no reopening date is available, so who knows, maybe they are changing it.....

I don't know what they serve there now.. but what about taking regional foods like:
Buffalo Wings (from Buffalo of course :teeth: )
Hoagies/Subs/Etc from where ever they are from
Cheese Steak Sandwiches (Phila)
Beef on Wych (where ever that is from I think Buffalo)
Ribs from any part of the country (everyone has their own type of sauce)
Deep Dish Pizza (Chicago)
NYC Pizza

I'm only NE American so I don't know much.. but that's my input.

How about food that you actually *want* to eat :rolleyes1 ? Honestly, almost any changes would be an improvement :thumbsup2 .

Something along the lines of a restaurant that served regional specialties, maybe called "Sandwich Heaven" which could serve Po' Boys, Cheesesteaks, BBQ, gyros, etc. or "Piece o' Pizza" with Ny style, deep-dish, flatbread-style, etc.
It wouldn't have to be a "fancy" table service, but it doesn't have to be the dreck that is served there now either. Earl of Sandwich has proved that a reasonably-priced slightly-classy casual counter service place can be INCREDIBLY popular. I have never been by there when there isn't a line of some sort. I think that the WDW suits might balk at putting another TS restaurant there, they probably need a high-volume establishment...there aren't any other cafeteria-style places in World Showcase, are there?

agnes!

You can get reasonable New Orleans style at House of Blues. I like it!

A TS restaurant would be wonderful. The downside is that you couldn't get in with a crowbar -- just imagine how popular it would be with all those tourists who are squeamish about furrin' food.

And it might be difficult to find chefs versatile enough to deal with several different regional cuisines. But it's worth a shot!

wow, this is a brilliant idea. a well run 'buffet' (actually a large collection of cook stations) would be awesome! ...a list of items that need to be ordered with your drinks... Someplaces in vegas have done it pretty well - handrolled waffle cones for premium ice cream, cooked to order crepes, gourmet slices of desserts.. Chowders are easy, disney knows how to do buffet well - fajitas and other southwest stuff is easy and quick. You'd have to work a way where people could get the sides around one side without waiting in the line with the cook to orders - a lot of the casinos did poorly for this. Noone does lines like Disney, though - they could really pull it off, and we'd have a lot of fun with it.

They should put Fireworks back where it was. Many great memories of sitting at the bar, waiting for friends, having a drink and street watching up PI.

Having a "regional" buffet with pods like Boma is a fantastic idea. There are so many distinctive American foods that would work great in Epcot. I think that a American TS would be hugely popular, esp. with people who aren't such adventurous eaters. Here's hoping that Disney is listening!

I would have Paula Deen come in and design the restaurant and just cook good ole downhome cooking... this from a girl who has never lived anywhere but MA, but I do have an appreciation for Southern cooking....Some barbecue, hoe cakes, hush puppies, you name it...I love it.
