I Can! I Can Stink at 9am! A January TR - 3/8 New TR Link!

Yep vanilla donut with chocolate! How funny!
Can I just say, i'm soooo looking forward to the day where we won't have to worry about the stroller. However, I do like that I have a cup holder for my drinks :scratchin:lmao:.

Our neighbor takes his kid, who is 5 I think, to Vegas all the time, staying at Circus Circus. You're right, he says it's definitely catering to more families and trying to make a family destination spot. But in order for that to happen, they need to get rid of the nudie cards ::yes::

That is funny! I wouldn't have known what you were talking about without the pictures lol. But it did look delicious...I especially want to try the cotton candy. Yum!

So true about the stroller - I missed having a cup holder and somewhere to store any purchases and my bags etc...one good thing about the stroller.

I don't think I'm ready to take my kids to Vegas either...even though they would probably enjoy it and we'd find family friendly stuff to do...I still see Vegas as somewhere you go to get AWAY from your kids lol...and I'll take them when they are 21 and can really enjoy it...and yeah...without subjecting them to porn slappers lol

I have gotten helplessly behind, but loved reading about your road trip! HOw fun and beautiful! I really need to visit the west coast and Pacific north west. Everything you did looked really fun! That safari zoo? No way! And those donuts. I need to find a place here that has something similar.

WTG on parents of the year twice! Isn't it nice to hear that once in a while?

DS did so well the long drives BTW.
That's great! Way to go, DS! :thumbsup2

Our best drives were through Oregon. I couldn’t believe how gorgeous and green everything was!
Love driving the coast, both Oregon and Northern California! I've done Highway 1 a couple times and just love it! :lovestruc

You’re not allowed to pump your own gas for whatever reason. I hated it. I felt like I was being lazy just sitting there watching them pumping my own gas.
Yep, seems so strange. But to the native Oregonians (like my cousin's wife), they are baffled about what to do when they are in another state and need gas. :rotfl:

They also had this cute little petting area that DS enjoyed
Cute video of feeding the goats! Looks like an overall great experience at the wildlife park.

Me: Mom that wasn’t real

DM: Oh you

Me: Mom that thing’s like 30 feet wide!

DM: I thought it looked LARGE but then I thought it was the photo
:lmao: Your mom has both creative hearing AND creative vision, I guess.

DH had pushed him down by himself :scared1:
:scared1: Whoa, that would terrify me too! Glad he managed to get down okay.

Not happy.
Aw, poor guy! Izzy rode the Barnstormer this trip as her first coaster and I took video of her reaction - it's pretty funny, as she's smiling widely at the top of the hill and then suddenly becomes very serious the rest of the ride. She tells me she liked it, though. :confused3 At least she wasn't in tears, but I think she was pretty scared.

And I took this picture literally seconds before he fell and made a big, bloody mess of his knee
Oh no, poor guy! :sad2:

I have a scary obsession for donuts. ::yes:: And all I hear about in Portland is Voodoo Doughnuts.
Mmmm! I first looked at your update this morning before I'd eaten breakfast and I really was wishing I had some doughnuts! By the way, Dug just told me that he's been hearing good things about Blue Star Doughnuts in Portland too - less of a tourist trap, but really good doughnuts, I guess.

ETA: The DIS just censored the name of the restaurant! LOL!
:rotfl: I had to look it up to find out what it was called. I'm surprised that was censored - it used to be a very common nickname for guys named Richard. :confused3

I ordered the Three B’s: Bacon, Brie and Basil served with house-made peach jam
That sounds wonderful! Looks great too.

We headed first to Pike Place Market and oh my gosh, parking is terrible down there! After driving around for 15 minutes we finally found a parking garage with some open spaces and headed down.
Wow, I guess I hadn't thought about how lucky we were. When we went there in 2012, we were able to walk over from our nearby hotel. It was pretty neat to walk through and check out the place.

But here is what sold on us staying here
That is an amazing patio! :cloud9: Is it shared by other units?

When we got off the water taxi, we realized we had made a big mistake. We hadn’t even thought about bringing the stroller and the park was close to a mile away. Honestly, not that far, but with a toddler it was difficult. We had to carry him the majority of the way and he’s a fat little guy, so when we saw this, we were relieved. And tired. And hot. And wasn’t sure how we would make it back :rotfl2:
Ugh, I definitely relate to this after carrying a toddler around WDW for 13 days. :faint:

And our view

That seems like a pretty good view for the cheap seats. Looks like you can see all parts of the field and the Jumbotron too. :thumbsup2

Once on the Water Taxi, I wanted to sit outside so we can get awesome views of the skyline as we pulled away from the dock
Great pictures!

We were stopping halfway to fulfill one of DH’s dreams on this trip…to eat at a Ruby Tuesday. There is a very small handful of locations across the West Coast and none near us, so when he saw the route we were taking today, he knew we would be stopping for lunch here.
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:This has me cracking up, as we have a running joke about Ruby Tuesday. There are some around here, but it's been years since we've been to one. But, anyway, quite a few years back, I had a co-worker that was very excited that a Ruby Tuesday was being built in her little suburb. She said, "We've finally made it! We have a Ruby Tuesday!" :rotfl: This cracked us up and we often will spot a Ruby Tuesday and be like, "They've finally made it!" Yeah, we're silly.

Our main focus today was the Oregon Coast Aquarium. We arrived at the best time possible, around 3:30, an hour and half before closing time and hardly any one was there so we were able to view without having to wait on anyone or need to worry about people waiting on us.
Haha, we did pretty much the same thing when we went there - I think it was like an hour until closing and there was almost nobody else there. In fact, that tunnel was just us. And they personally escorted us out, as we were the last guests. Great way to see it, though!

Our next stop was to see the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse
We went there too! And I think it was very windy for us too.

The drive on the way there was amazing!
Love that drive!

So no pics but pool time was not successful. I stayed in the spa because my neck was hurting and DH took DS into the pool and was terrified and would not let go of him at all. We thought seeing other kids playing and having fun would get him excited but nope. We left after about 15 minutes.
Ugh, we are dealing with this too. We apparently waited way too long between swim lesson sessions for Izzy. Now she's had two recent lessons and, despite having enjoyed the water and learned things before, she is now TERRIFIED of the water. She just clings to us for dear life and tells us to keep her safe. The instructor and I did manage to get her to sit in a few inches of water in the zero-entry area to play with toys last time, though, so that's some progress. I hope she remembers soon how much she used to enjoy swimming.

Where we were awarded with Parents of the Year award. Twice, actually!
Way to go! :cheer2:

Today was pretty uneventful, aside from FINALLY visiting a Dutch Bros!
Dug really enjoyed Dutch Bros when we were in Portland last year. My cousins recommended it and he couldn't get enough (I'm not a coffee drinker, but I had a smoothie there that was great).

In fact, DH is trying to find an excuse now to get back up there soon!
We do have an excuse (3 of my cousins and their families live there), but just need to find the time and money. I really want to get back there, though.

Thanks for sharing your trip! :goodvibes

I must reply now because there's two more pages left and I don't want to forget anything.

Firstly, I'm loving all this Labryinth love :teeth: and I totally feel the same about the ballroom scene ::yes::

Your vacation looks super fabulous with so much good food!!! Those Voodoo donuts! Oh my goodness!!!!! popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: and those waffles! and the pizza!!!

The place with the gorgeous deck looks awesome, what a find!

Too fun that you went to a baseball game last minute.

The aquarium looks fabulous.

And the woods look so serene.

And the lighthouse pictures are breathtaking!

I must finish reading later, but didn't want to forget :)

Your summer road trip looks fabulous. And major props for doing it so soon after potty training ended. Your a brave soul indeed ; )

I've always wanted to see the Pacific Northwest and your trip just makes me wanna do it even more, just gonna have to break that darn disney habit. Love how you all split it up and especially staying in apartments vice hotels. Speaking of which, that place in Seattle was absolutely gorgeous. What a find.

And of course major props for getting a good amount of good food and most importantly adult beverages in ; )

It took me two days from reading to finally actually comment!

Central Valley is the WORST place to live if you have any respiratory problems! And people develop issues all the time, it’s quite disgusting here:crazy2:

I can't believe that you guys are worse than LA now, but I understand. LA is greatly improved and especially by the Grapevine all the toxic fumes build up, it's kind of gross to see all the build up, sort of like they used to have in Riverside 20 years ago. I hope they find a way to get rid of it. I always noticed the smell of the cows when we were there in Tulare.

And in the rare case that an animal charges your car, to stay put and not leave your vehicle. And we were left with a, “Have fun!”

Yikes! This sounds like a fun place but sort of "you're on your own". Did you see the video of the people and the bear that came up to their car that was on GMA this week?

BTW, I had found a deal through Living Social for $18 for 2 adults and since DS was under 3, he was free! The best $18 we’ve ever spent for sure and we’d definitely come back to visit.

Definitely a deal!

Seven Feather Resort and Casino is where we were booked for the night and I was not at all excited about staying here. Had it been just DH and I, would have been no problem. But with DS? I had wanted to find something else, but DH fought me on it and won. Thoughts? Loved it! Totally not what I expected it to be. Very, very nice. Free from any smell of smoke and the workers were so hospitable and talkative.

Very glad to hear! Will keep this in mind if we ever make it that way!

I have a scary obsession for donuts. ::yes:: And all I hear about in Portland is Voodoo Doughnuts. This would be the perfect time to let DS sleep in the carseat while I made a donut run before checking into our studio

Fran really wants to visit Voodoo Donuts one day, she has seen them on so many Travel Channel, Food Network shows, but we just went to this place in Downtown LA where they had some crazy donuts, Maple and bacon, Strawberry, Red Velvet and Car Wreck which had something to do with Guiness and cream. They were all pretty good. It's called the Nickel Diner and was on Triple D, you should check it out, but the donuts sell out quick. We were there at 11AM and they were running out of them!

Backing up a bit, if I can find a vacation rental for about the same price as a hotel room, I’ll do it. And I researched and found the perfect little spot located in Southeast Portland.

So were you looking on VRBO?

We headed first to Pike Place Market and oh my gosh, parking is terrible down there! After driving around for 15 minutes we finally found a parking garage with some open spaces and headed down.

We had an awful time parking there, we tried on a Sunday and gave up and came back on a Monday.

I had wanted to go to the Pike Place Chowder but the line was crazy.

I'm sorry you missed this place, we ate there and it was incredible!

But here is what sold on us staying here

That patio is crazy beautiful!

Once on the Water Taxi, I wanted to sit outside so we can get awesome views of the skyline as we pulled away from the dock

I can understand why!

couple sitting behind us offered to take a picture of all of us once we docked which was nice to have

Beautiful pic!

The rest of the day was spend on Alki Beach, were we walked along the sidewalk and stopped at Tully’s to have some coffee

You guys definitely hit up the coffee spots!

Dinner was at a pizza place called Pegasus Pizza where we shared a Greek Salad and Medium half Combo, half Tom’s Special (Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions, Olives, Feta and Mozz cheese, Garlic, Diced Tomatoes, Spinach, Sunflower seeds and shredded pepperoni

Sounds yummy! for someone who hasn't had pizza in so long, I would love it!

We were stopping halfway to fulfill one of DH’s dreams on this trip…to eat at a Ruby Tuesday. There is a very small handful of locations across the West Coast and none near us, so when he saw the route we were taking today, he knew we would be stopping for lunch here.

We ate at a Ruby Tuesday somewhere on a trip and really loved it. Wish they had them in California!

here we were awarded with Parents of the Year award. Twice, actually!

Good for you!

It really, really is. Especially now with all dry land around us. I forgot to post this, but this is what we call home

Yeah our favorite drive to my parent's house all 4-5 hours of it! Yay! Straight road, flat land. I drive that, Fran drives the mountains.

I LOVE Labyrinth. I used to watch it all the time when I was little!
I love that song!

I just watched it about a month ago on Netflix! Although I have it on DVD too....and VHS :hyper:

Arg! That ball scene! :faint: Yeah I'm with you on that! :thumbsup2 I have that song on my iPod! :hyper:

If we ever have a vow renewal, we're dancing to this song! ::yes::

But I will admit watching it as an adult I was very distracted by his....errr...Bowie bulge! :lmao:
No joke! And I want to know if my parents were ever uncomfortable with this :rotfl2: They were the ones that bought it for me!

fdcf5thtig45ij7pvkpk.gif

He sure could work those crystal balls! ;)

And I was mesmerized by them

Also he was working contouring well before Kim K! Just sayin'! :rotfl2:

I know for a face, his eye make-up is better than mine. PB & Jelly.

:scratchin Maybe I watch too many movies......

Uh, you watch the PERFECT amount of movies, if not quite enough :hyper:

Such a cute family photo! :goodvibes

Thanks! It made me realize how white I am sitting next to DH :rotfl2:

"Have fun, try not to die!" :thumbsup2

But on a serious note did you see that woman who was mauled to death by a lion in her car on one of those safari things in Africa?!??!? Freaking scary.

OMGosh yes! Never doing that in Africa, but will do the safari in Oregon. That's so sad :sad2:

Just wait till he's 21 and discovers vodka icees....they really do make everything better....and sometimes worse :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I'm 31 and never discovered vodka icees :sad1::sad2: Excuse me while I go re-do my early 20's real quick :tiptoe:

That Butterfinger one looks soooooooooooooooo good!! *drool*

homer drool.jpg

So how do you pronounce that? :rotfl:

Rhymes with Flick :rotfl2:

Hey that is some quality multi-tasking dad-ing there! :thumbsup2

He's just getting with the times. It's how it's done nowadays! ::yes::

Parents of the year award right there :rolleyes2:scared:

Right?! Back in the early 90's, when it wasn't illegal, my grandpa would let us ride in the back of his truck but only a few blocks away from the house to run errands. Looking back, that still was crazy! :rotfl:I'm shocked he trusted us that much to not try and jump out at age 7/8!

He is such a cutiepie! ::yes::

I agree :cutie:

Thanks for sharing your road trip! It looked great - randomly.. I read Kristin Hannah novels which are usually based in the PNW and that beach house you stayed at looked just like the ones described in her books!

DS is getting so grown up :cutie:
Emma x

Thanks Emma! I'll have to check her out. I'm always on the lookout for new books to read!

I have no idea, and I don't intend to find out!

Yeah don't do it :rotfl2:

That road trip looked incredible. We have NEVER attempted a real road trip with DS because well... He gets a little ... high strung in the car. After 2 hours he starts yelling " I am TRAPPED I am TRAPPED!!! GET ME OUTTA HERE!!

:rotfl: I'm trapped! I had to LOL what a funny kid! I'm sure when DS understands those words, he'll start to scream them too

He also insists we listen to disc 2 of the Lion King Anniversary soundtrack OVER AND OVER

DH would NOT have a problem with this. He loves the songs from this movie and was singing along to all the songs on the movie while it was being played for DS!

Yeah so like 2 hours is my LIMIT.

I never thought I could do over 3 hours myself. And then we drove to Vegas, which is about 5 1/2 hours, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. But we totally made stops with DS every 2-3 hours for a bathroom break and drinks.

But your trip looked incredible. Your DS gets bigger and cuter each day!! Those donuts looked awesome and the game looked so fun. I loved the view of that place in Seattle. So gorgeous.

I would drive hours and hours for those donuts! :rotfl:

That little zoo looked like a great time too.

The safari was one of our top favorite moments of the trip. It was so different from what we normally do!

BTW my friend recommended this guy... next time you need a babysitter .....

15l9WBu.jpg

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Does he babysit grown women is what I want to know!:rotfl2:

OMG - Love your summer trip! How fun! sound like a lot of driving, but that's the type of vacation my parents used to take us on when we were young. We went all over New England and loved every minute of it.

The furthest we ever drove was down to Disneyland when I was little. But we did fly back to PA a few times in my childhood and did stuff out there. And DH's family really only travelled for baseball and softball tournaments, never doing family vacations, so this road trip was new to the both of us! We did New England back in 2011 and loved it! It was absolutely gorgeous and something i'd love to do again someday.

How did you find your rentals? Did you use VRBO? I swear by that website, but I am shocked that you will able to get one and two night stays. That patio was gorgeous.

I believe it was through HomeAway but it's a sister company of VRBO, I think? There was TONS of places that didn't require a 2 night minimum so we lucked out with that. I was looking for something here on the coast for one or two nights at some point before DH has to go back to work, and they're all 5 night minimum!

Beautiful scenery. I would love to drive up the west coast. Next May we are tentatively doing 2 week California trip starting in San Fran and ending at the Mother ship (DL) or San Diego. We want to see the coast, the wine country, and Yosemite. We are doing this with one other couple. Any input would be appreciated it.

I'm FINALLY going to be able to visit Napa for the first time in August for my friends Bachelorette party, so i'll be able to help with recommendations. But if you make stops along the Central Coast near Paso Robles, I can totally help you with those wineries for sure! There's like over 150 easily! We used to go much more frequently before DS, at least 3 times in the Summer. We'll have to message each other when you start to make plans for your trip :goodvibes

Wait - your DH drove out of his way for a Ruby Tuesday????? :faint: Am I missing something? They are all over the place here and, I will admit, I haven't been to one in awhile, so maybe I need to retry it.

:rotfl::rotfl2: I think everyone is wondering why we would do this! We loved going to RT while back East and had the best experiences!

That is funny! I wouldn't have known what you were talking about without the pictures lol. But it did look delicious...I especially want to try the cotton candy. Yum!

So true about the stroller - I missed having a cup holder and somewhere to store any purchases and my bags etc...one good thing about the stroller.

Oh yes! Can't forget about it being a bag holder as well :rotfl:

And so true about getting away from the kids, not bringing them with you! :rotfl2::lmao: I think that's the point when you're doing everything possible to make a trip to Vegas and the only way to get there is to take the whole family

I get so behind all the time, nothing new to me! :rotfl:

You're right, it was nice to hear that! And shocking too :confused3 We've had compliments multiple times on the plane, but never in restaurants before, I don't think.[/QUOTE]

OK, now I know what your post on my TR meant "We're planning a 10-14 trip to California". That was the number of days, not time of year!

I know you didn't ask me, but I've been to Napa quite a few times, not recently, but I am very familiar with the wineries and could give you some tips.

I also agree with Alicia, plan to hit some wineries in the Past Robles area. Heck! I could have you drinking wine all the way through California! There's even one in Downtown LA where you could stop for lunch and some glasses!

And so true about getting away from the kids, not bringing them with you! :rotfl2::lmao: I think that's the point when you're doing everything possible to make a trip to Vegas and the only way to get there is to take the whole family

Agreed. But there are so many other better places to take your kids...as much as I love Vegas...I think I will refrain until they are older...there's a lot of explainin' I'm not ready to do yet about the things that they may see there lol...Not that I'm judging anyone who does it......My hubby would probably take the kids if there was no other way since he loves poker lol...

:)
That's great! Way to go, DS! :thumbsup2

I was very proud of him indeed. But snacks and movies definitely helped!

Love driving the coast, both Oregon and Northern California! I've done Highway 1 a couple times and just love it! :lovestruc

It was absolutely gorgeous!

Yep, seems so strange. But to the native Oregonians (like my cousin's wife), they are baffled about what to do when they are in another state and need gas. :rotfl:

I wonder what California gas workers think when they see a car pull up to a pump station and the people are just sitting in their car, not doing anything :rotfl2:

Cute video of feeding the goats! Looks like an overall great experience at the wildlife park.

It totally was a great find in such a random area. I don't even know how I found it!

:lmao: Your mom has both creative hearing AND creative vision, I guess.

:lmao: Totally does! I'm amazed by her comments a lot of the time.

:scared1: Whoa, that would terrify me too! Glad he managed to get down okay.

After I realized that he was alone, I ran into the ride area to get him off the slide before more kids started coming down. Oh DH :sad2::laughing:

Aw, poor guy! Izzy rode the Barnstormer this trip as her first coaster and I took video of her reaction - it's pretty funny, as she's smiling widely at the top of the hill and then suddenly becomes very serious the rest of the ride. She tells me she liked it, though. :confused3 At least she wasn't in tears, but I think she was pretty scared.

I have video of DS on the Barnstormer too since this January trip was his first time on it! It's a little shaky though cause I was riding in front of them to document his reaction and it was going pretty fast! His face looked concerned and scared :rotfl:

Oh no, poor guy! :sad2:

Boys. Well, it's what i'm told, so i'm going with that:thumbsup2

Mmmm! I first looked at your update this morning before I'd eaten breakfast and I really was wishing I had some doughnuts! By the way, Dug just told me that he's been hearing good things about Blue Star Doughnuts in Portland too - less of a tourist trap, but really good doughnuts, I guess.

Yes! Had I had another day in Portland, that would have been another stop. I visited their second location, 'Voodoo Too' and I was shocked to find no one! Literally just workers. No one even entered the lot as we were leaving, so it had a locals vibe feeling. I found a picture showing what it could look like when it's packed!

line.jpg

And how it looked for me

voodoo.jpg

:rotfl: I had to look it up to find out what it was called. I'm surprised that was censored - it used to be a very common nickname for guys named Richard. :confused3

Exactly! :confused3

Wow, I guess I hadn't thought about how lucky we were. When we went there in 2012, we were able to walk over from our nearby hotel. It was pretty neat to walk through and check out the place.

It was bad. I'm sure had I gotten a hotel in the city, we would have no problem at all, but it was really bad. Way worse than San Francisco for sure. And on a Wednesday!

That is an amazing patio! :cloud9: Is it shared by other units?

So this apartment is actually the bottom of the owners house. I think it was a basement or garage or something? But it had it's own separate entrance and she actually had two more patios that I didn't get pictures of. One of them was another patio for 'us' and then she had one on a higher level that was hers. So all that was shown in my pics (minus an additional patio) was all ours for our stay. Never saw her once aside from the initial check-in. It was awesome!

Ugh, I definitely relate to this after carrying a toddler around WDW for 13 days. :faint:

:sad2: Don't know how you did it. And wonder why she didn't like being in her stroller? DS loves being in his stroller. Well, as long as it's in motion and not stopped, then he thinks he's getting out.

That seems like a pretty good view for the cheap seats. Looks like you can see all parts of the field and the Jumbotron too. :thumbsup2

Heck yes! The only way they could have been any cheaper, is if they sold Standing Room Only, which I don't think the do sell those. But it was definitely cheap for us. That and we're used to paying San Francisco prices:eek:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:This has me cracking up, as we have a running joke about Ruby Tuesday. There are some around here, but it's been years since we've been to one. But, anyway, quite a few years back, I had a co-worker that was very excited that a Ruby Tuesday was being built in her little suburb. She said, "We've finally made it! We have a Ruby Tuesday!" :rotfl: This cracked us up and we often will spot a Ruby Tuesday and be like, "They've finally made it!" Yeah, we're silly.

:rotfl:We said that about our town when a Chili's got built!!! :rotfl2:

Haha, we did pretty much the same thing when we went there - I think it was like an hour until closing and there was almost nobody else there. In fact, that tunnel was just us. And they personally escorted us out, as we were the last guests. Great way to see it, though!

Awesome! Yep, we definitely went at the right time. And it wasn't too large, unlike Monterey Bay's, so we didn't feel a need to rush through.

We went there too! And I think it was very windy for us too.

It was bad! Like take your breath away. When we were getting out of our car, a couple of older ladies were getting out of there's as well, and one of them yelled (cause no one could hear anything!) at DH if it was safe to be up here?! :rotfl2: I answered for him and said we're only braving this for a minute or less and leaving! :lmao:

Ugh, we are dealing with this too. We apparently waited way too long between swim lesson sessions for Izzy. Now she's had two recent lessons and, despite having enjoyed the water and learned things before, she is now TERRIFIED of the water. She just clings to us for dear life and tells us to keep her safe. The instructor and I did manage to get her to sit in a few inches of water in the zero-entry area to play with toys last time, though, so that's some progress. I hope she remembers soon how much she used to enjoy swimming.

Yep, we're both in the same position. DH took him to his mom's house two days ago and was only in for a few minutes, saying he needed to 'pee-pee'. Smart kid knows how to get out of situations already :rotfl2: I think he gets his dislike of pools from me. I'm not a huge fan. I know how to swim, I like laying outside of them, just don't like to get in them. :confused3 In fact, we're the odd house out in our neighborhood, all because of me! If you stood on a ladder and looked at all surrounding houses from our backyard, we're the only ones without a pool ::yes::

Dug really enjoyed Dutch Bros when we were in Portland last year. My cousins recommended it and he couldn't get enough (I'm not a coffee drinker, but I had a smoothie there that was great).

We bought DS one of the smoothies and it was gone in minutes and he asked after he was done, "Soothie?!" :rotfl:

We do have an excuse (3 of my cousins and their families live there), but just need to find the time and money. I really want to get back there, though.

You have a great excuse to get back there, so lucky!

Thanks for sharing your trip! :goodvibes

Thanks for reading:)

I must reply now because there's two more pages left and I don't want to forget anything.

Firstly, I'm loving all this Labryinth love :teeth: and I totally feel the same about the ballroom scene ::yes::

I had no idea this many people liked the Labyrinth! I showed DH for the first time when we were dating and he thought it was so, so weird. And he got to see it a few more times throughout the years and really likes it now. Even says, "You remind me of the babe" sometimes :thumbsup2

Your vacation looks super fabulous with so much good food!!! Those Voodoo donuts! Oh my goodness!!!!! popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: and those waffles! and the pizza!!!

Yes! I think we did pretty good on the food portion of the trip!

The place with the gorgeous deck looks awesome, what a find!

DH and I were able to enjoy the deck the last night of our stay after DS went to bed. It was quite nice!

Too fun that you went to a baseball game last minute.

When we were researching the trip and randomly looked to see if the Giants were going to be there and saw that they were, we KNEW we had to go to a game. And then as it got closer to the trip, we saw the forecast for rain and didn't want to subject DS to that weather if it wasn't a covered stadium, so waited until the last second (or hour!) to buy tickets. It worked out!

The aquarium looks fabulous.

We had lots of fun! Not as big or nice as Monterey's but still lots of cool stuff to look at.

And the woods look so serene.

It was seriously beautiful. We were in awe at how massive it was and how we never saw anyone else in there for big periods of time.

And the lighthouse pictures are breathtaking!

Yep, being up there was literally breathtaking! :rotfl2:

Your summer road trip looks fabulous. And major props for doing it so soon after potty training ended. Your a brave soul indeed ; )

I don't know why I do that. I feel like I always put ourselves in harder situations, like the potty training. Who in the world does that?! :rotfl: And this was also the same trip he learned to take showers instead of baths! Again, why do I do that! :rotfl2:

I've always wanted to see the Pacific Northwest and your trip just makes me wanna do it even more, just gonna have to break that darn disney habit. Love how you all split it up and especially staying in apartments vice hotels. Speaking of which, that place in Seattle was absolutely gorgeous. What a find.

No kidding. It was hard to overlook going to Disneyland with all that vacation time, but knew we had to try something else.

And of course major props for getting a good amount of good food and most importantly adult beverages in ; )

Vacation is not vacation without massive amounts of fatty, delicious food! And drinks, I feel I did poorly on :sad2: Not much drinking aside from the six-pack I picked up. But i've been making up for it since being home :thumbsup2

It's so bad up here. I have a friend that was from here, move to SLO and she'll come back to visit every once in a while but can't stay long because she can't breath when she's here. Nuts! And I can't even smell the cows anymore :confused3 Ew you're right though, you can totally see all the disgustingness in the air from the grapevine, just settling in the Valley. :crazy2::crazy2:

Yikes! This sounds like a fun place but sort of "you're on your own". Did you see the video of the people and the bear that came up to their car that was on GMA this week?

Oh my gosh, yes! :faint::eek: I don't even know what I would do. Is it like if you see dinosaurs, you stay completely still?! :rotfl2:

Definitely a deal!

I love Groupon and Living Social!

Very glad to hear! Will keep this in mind if we ever make it that way!

Yes! You guys would really enjoy it I think! They had $3 blackjack tables for you :thumbsup2 The buffet was good, Cows Creek Restaurant for us was blegh, but for DS was good. They have a nicer restaurant that you need reservations for though that is has way better reviews. Oh and a Spa for you as well! They also have a really cool QS type deli with coffees and danish for the morning, but also an ice cream counter that serves up the local ice cream brand 'Umpqua'!

How was the Guinness one?! I'd love to try that one, even though i'm not a Guinness fan. I'll have to check that out whenever we go down to LA (whenever that is :sad1:) There was a donut shop I really liked in Long Beach...can't even remember the name now! :headache: But they were always fresh and delicious.

So were you looking on VRBO?

I made these particular bookings through HomeAway, which I think is a related company to VRBO. Legit, reliable and one I would definitely use again. It was my first time using HomeAway for both Portland and Seattle and I would definitely use them again!

We had an awful time parking there, we tried on a Sunday and gave up and came back on a Monday.

Seriously we almost gave up too. But then were like, we don't want to have to attempt this again tomorrow, so kept driving till we found an open garage. Even then we had to go up all 5 stories to find a spot. Pure craziness! I didn't think it was going to be that bad.

I'm sorry you missed this place, we ate there and it was incredible!

This doesn't make me feel any better Alison!:sad1::rotfl2:

That patio is crazy beautiful!!

It really was and I took so many more pictures of her arrangements so I can try to do it at home...one day :rolleyes1

You guys definitely hit up the coffee spots!

We really did! PNW is known for their coffee though! Wish we could have done more local spots though.

Sounds yummy! for someone who hasn't had pizza in so long, I would love it!

That's right, how's the diet coming along?

We ate at a Ruby Tuesday somewhere on a trip and really loved it. Wish they had them in California!

YAY! :cool1:Finally someone comes to my rescue and agrees with me on RT!! :rotfl: We really like them too, especially the salad bar! Years ago when we had visited our first one in PA, we started researching locations once we got home and I guess there was one in West Covina but it had been closed

Yeah our favorite drive to my parent's house all 4-5 hours of it! Yay! Straight road, flat land. I drive that, Fran drives the mountains.

Isn't it so ugly looking?! I don't mind the flat drive, but dang, if it was green that would be cool. And if it wasn't so hot that would be nice too

I was going to direct MEK over to you! Which one in Downtown LA are you thinking? San Antonio?!

:rotfl2::rotfl:@ the highlighted! Exactly! And totally agree with you. I don't care what other families do. If it works for them, than perfect! ::yes::

:rotfl: I had to look it up to find out what it was called. I'm surprised that was censored - it used to be a very common nickname for guys named Richard. :confused3

Oh, that's what it was I thought it was H E double toothpicks!

:rotfl:We said that about our town when a Chili's got built!!! :rotfl2:

I was going to ask where it was, but then I realized that I've eaten there, quite a few times!

Yes! You guys would really enjoy it I think! They had $3 blackjack tables for you :thumbsup2

Nice!

The Guinness one was probably my favorite. Fran's favorite donut shop is on 7th street at near Walnut across from the Sushi/Thai restaurant. They have a drive through and she says they are the best in Long Beach, but I'm sure there are lots of good ones. I just don't get to try any of them. :sad2:

That's right, how's the diet coming along?

Well, I've lost 20 pounds overall, but I still can't tell. I've set a new goal weight, and I'm on my 5th day of maintaining underneath my initial goal weight. Once I'm a solid 7 days at this weight, I'm making myself a Gingerbread cake mix that I've had since Christmas!

YAY! :cool1:Finally someone comes to my rescue and agrees with me on RT!! :rotfl: We really like them too, especially the salad bar! Years ago when we had visited our first one in PA, we started researching locations once we got home and I guess there was one in West Covina but it had been closed

I think we went to one in Minnesota, I just googled and the closest one is 238 miles from me.

Isn't it so ugly looking?! I don't mind the flat drive, but dang, if it was green that would be cool. And if it wasn't so hot that would be nice too

It's just long and straight and dry for miles and miles, and now you have to read all the signs about congress cheating the farmer and losing water and crops. It's just depressing.

I was going to direct MEK over to you! Which one in Downtown LA are you thinking? San Antonio?!

Yes San Antonio. We did a tour there with the Car Club and then had lunch afterwards. A group of us went to the tasting room after lunch and our tour guide really set us up. We tasted everything they had and then bought a ton of wine (which we still need to drink!)

Oh, that's what it was I thought it was H E double toothpicks!

I never thought about it being that name!

I was going to ask where it was, but then I realized that I've eaten there, quite a few times!

:sad2::sad1: That is so, so sad.

This is awesome!!! :cool1: Maintaining is the hardest part I hear. And you make that Gingerbread Cake girl!:hyper: You totally deserve it:goodvibes

You know that's not very far!

It's just long and straight and dry for miles and miles, and now you have to read all the signs about congress cheating the farmer and losing water and crops. It's just depressing.

It really is depressing seeing all those signs and I see them everyday while out and about. Have you guys had to stop washing your cars yet?

Yes San Antonio. We did a tour there with the Car Club and then had lunch afterwards. A group of us went to the tasting room after lunch and our tour guide really set us up. We tasted everything they had and then bought a ton of wine (which we still need to drink!)

I've only been to the San Antonio in Paso but they don't serve lunch, which I thought they did the last time we visited and I was totally sad:headache:

Magic Kingdom!

"Look it's Princess Jasmine!" Sike.

Just a reminder of the plan for today in case you forgot from my update a month ago :rolleyes1

And @kastoney pointed out a huge mistake that I missed. It shows a dining reservation for 2, but I made it for 4. Not sure what happened there, but nope, no date night tonight. However we do get a few later on in the trip! :yay:

I’m not sure who decided it (surely not me!) but today was going to be an easy day. Our first FP wasn’t until 10:40 AND we were only 5 minutes away via monorail. The downside to me printing out our schedule was that everyone could look at our schedule. And someone pointed out that since our FP wasn’t until later in the morning, that means we wouldn’t have to show up until that time

Major facepalm moment.

pluto facepalm.gif

And because it was 2 against 1, we stayed in the villa until as late as possible

Timestamp: 10:28am

Don’t think DS was too happy about our late start either.

I should have just went to the MK by myself earlier that morning, but then there would be no one there to crack the whip. Also, everyone would starve since I’m the cook

Enough babbling, let’s just get the day started!

By the time we left the room (10:28am) and saw this, it was 10:45am! Seriously, I love the monorail.

Ah, so beautiful

Photopass pictures with the sun in our eyes to make our trip more complete, were in order Note: I said picture*s* but this was literally the only good one. And I tried to make it better by adding a border, but don’t think it helped :rotfl2:

Making our way to BTMR, it wasn’t too crowded

I let DM and DH ride first and keeping a tally in my head of how nice I’m being to use this against them later. Come on! They got to sleep in AND ride the first attraction of the day.

so jealous.gif

I hung out with the kid, who only seemed to care about getting yogurt melts all over the place

Once they got off, I got on with DH. And BTW, I just love this ride but it would be really cool if they implemented the elements from BTMR at Disneyland though.

I wanted to do something fun for DS (Cause I guess this is his trip too?!:confused3) so we went straight for the Carousel. He loved riding it at Disneyland a few months prior to this trip so we knew it would be a great choice

And oh my gosh did he love it even more this time around! I have video, but am saving it for a wrap-up movie for the end :teeth:

After our ride on the Carousel, we went right over to Mickey’s Philharmagic where DH attempted to move up in levels on CC

I wasn’t sure how DS would do with the 3D glasses but he managed to keep them on for a few minutes! Much longer than I expected:laughing:

Because we had a late breakfast and we had an early dinner reservation this evening, we thought a light snack at Pinocchio’s would be fine. And when I mean light snack, I do mean full blown lunch :lmao:

I have no pictures of our meals, but I distinctly remember taking a bite of my pepperoni flatbread, remembering I needed to take a picture, chewing more, then realizing how gross it was and decided I did not want to document this atrocity. BLEGH was it nasty. DS barely ate any of it and DM had ordered it as well and totally disliked it. DH ordered the Sandwich and said it was okay, but decided we’d never come here again. So, I think that’s the first restaurant we’ve put on our ‘Do Not Return’ list while at WDW :sad1: Unless someone can tell me the good things to order here!

The only good thing out of this, was that Peter Pan was right around the corner from Pinocchio’s. Off to use our FP!

And the horrendous photo that I took while on it

We had some time to spare before our next FP for 7DMT so we hung around the entrance to the ride and was amazed that the wait was 90 minutes. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it being a new ride and all, but being the ‘off season’ it was strange.

Five minutes till our actual FP time, DH and I went up, got a Rider Swap ticket for DM and into the queue we went, where we waited all but two minutes. Actually probably less since I took this picture right as we were entering the car at 1:41pm

I did take a little video of the ride and let me just say, I didn’t expect it to be as fast as it was and didn’t expect that many turns. I didn’t pay attention to videos that were shown online beforehand because I wanted to be surprised (yes, I am a 10 year old child ::yes::) and reviews from other people were saying it was fairly tame.

And I was very, very excited to see this show up on my MM!

And I got this classic shot for the books :rotfl2:

Overall, I really enjoyed it. It’s not a thrill ride by any means, but it’s fun for all ages. But not something I’d wait in line for 90 minutes for. What really makes this ride stick out from the rest is the video capability they are able to provide. I mean, how cool is it that you can catch a few seconds of yourself having fun, totally candidly! Not posed or anything (well, until you find out later with the cameras are) but really, what a cool way to document your trip.

Next up was DM’s turn. And things got tricky. DH wanted to ride again. But so did I. Up until now, I’ve graciously let DH get the second ride from all Rider Swap attractions, but that wasn’t a strong enough argument apparently. So that only calls for one thing. To fight unfairly (or just smart). I knew DM had the Rider Swap pass and she was standing next to me and DH in front of me. I pointed really quickly and rather excitedly behind him and said “Princess Jasmine!”, he looked, I grabbed DM’s arm and off we ran to the queue. And when I mean ran, I mean took two smallish steps to the entrance. But that’s not even the funny part.
When I looked back as we were walking past the check in, DH was still looking for ‘Jasmine’.:rotfl2::rolleyes::rolleyes1

I liked the way this one turned out

Frequent reader, infrequent posted! I've actually gone back and read ALL of your trip reports.
Your DS is precious and I love reading about your adventures!

Looks like this was a great trip! I would love to visit one January and take advantage of the cooler weather, lower crowds and to hopefully see the Christmas decorations.

Can't wait to read more!

Woah that is quite the compliment, thank you! :goodvibes

If you can't get to WDW the first two weeks in December (when it's also low crowds and Value season!), anytime in January is perfect!

We went in December 2010, but that was before I found the Dis and we missed a LOT! December/January is definitely on my list though. Thanks for the tip:smooth:

Sorry to hear about the bad meal at Pinocchio's! I've not eaten there for years.

I was exactly the same about the mine train.. avoided all online spoilers, even looked away on the Magical Express when the video started to explain how the animatronics worked

:laughing:That's exactly what happened to us when we visited WDW for the first time in June 2008. Had I known about the DIS, I would have known that it was Star Wars week :headache: We missed out on so much too.

Yeah, it was just ick. But we really love the one at Disneyland! :confused3

:rotfl2:I wasn't watching on the bus either! :cool2:

Major fail on your part. :crazy2:

And this will be the last time @Leshaface goes to Disney World without booking FP+ for the first hour the park is open.

I should have just went to the MK by myself earlier that morning, but then there would be no one there to crack the whip. Also, everyone would starve since I’m the cook
::yes:: Yes, you should have! Maybe a little starvation would be what they'd need to get them out of bed the next morning.

I let DM and DH ride first and keeping a tally in my head of how nice I’m being to use this against them later. Come on! They got to sleep in AND ride the first attraction of the day.
You really need to be more selfish. It would make me feel better about myself. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

Wow... I've heard some bad reviews of this place, but it seemed like it had been making some improvements over the past couple of years. Apparently not!

And I got this classic shot for the books :rotfl2:
Brings new meaning to the term "facepalm."

Very cruel. Very, very, very cruel. This will be the last FP+ ride you ride twice.

I liked the way this one turned out
::yes:: Much better.
