I Can! I Can Stink at 9am! A January TR - 3/8 New TR Link!

Hi all!

So we're half way done with our road trip now, spending the last night in Seattle tonight and making our way back with a few more stops in Oregon before going back home. It's been lots of fun and not as hard as I was expecting it to be. We may or may not have been dumb for doing this trip one and a half months into DS's potty training, but he's done so, so well! Despite all the long drives and packing in lots of stuff, we've managed to really relax (I even took a NAP today! :faint:) and DH has been able to play his games. Yes, I let DH bring his PS4 along:lmao::rolleyes:

With that being said, I'm hoping to get an update in within the next few days during our downtime while DS is sleeping. :goodvibes

OMG, time seems to just fly by.
I have been a bit caught up in real life (end of the school year is coming close) and I missed that you were already leaving on your trip.

Hope you enjoy the rest of it and I cannot wait to read all about this trip as well. :thumbsup2

I loved your TR so far! You have such a funny voice, I love all your alcohol jokes (though I think I felt a bit nauseous just reading them, haha). Looking forward to more updates :)

 Glad you are having fun! If you didn't let him take his PS4 then he would have only had Candy Crush! That would have been cruel! :rotfl:

Sounds like a good trip...any trip that involves NAPS is a good one in my books. So funny about the PS4...my DH would love that too....

Epcot!

Margaritas and Test Track

We had just finished walking through the Italy and Germany pavilions towards our next extremely important destination – Mexico. Once inside the pavilion, we didn’t waste any time and went straight to La Cava del Tequila. We do not mess around when it comes to alcohol. Much like dinner, when it’s time, it’s time. We do not fight it.
I might have to put La Cava on my December list of to try.

As we were trying to get as comfortable as possible, DS was sitting on my lap when he reached and grabbed the candle on the table! I literally freaked out and slapped it out of his hand when I realized it was not real :lmao: Come on, my freak out was justified. I mean, I looked down and saw this

But once I realized it was battery operated, I let him play with it for a while since there was no room for him to do anything else. Oh and selfies! Always room for selfies
This would have scared me too!

DM got in on the action because well, she was practically sitting on top of us

And this was happening inches from my face. Candy Crushin’ it.

Candy Crush while at Disney?? Only a man!!

Every time I visit, I always try and order something different. Although I will say, it’s hard to try something new, knowing how delicious that Cucumber and Blood Orange Margarita is. But I pushed ahead and decided on the Jalapeno Margarita

DH went with the Horchata Margarita

and DM went the usual

Of those three, the San Angel Inn sounds the best. Another idea for December.

San Angel Inn

This still looks good to me. I can't wait for December.

The Jalapeno was not at all what I was expecting. I was thinking extremely spicy but it had a nice, mellow heat to it. DH’s Horchata was actually very good and something I’d order for sure. DM’s…don’t know cause she pulled a DHS move, gulping her drink in seconds.

DH and DM came out after maybe 15 minutes and told them we had time to make our way to dinner. Where the reply was, “Wait what time is it anyway?” and “What time was dinner originally?”. :headache: They should be so grateful I can read the time on my phone and modify reservations ::yes::

And here’s their ride photo

Then it was my turn to ride while DH volunteered as tribute. I was super excited cause I love this ride! But also, this would be my first time experiencing it at night.

DH and I designed our vehicles.

Yep, different in every way possible

And our ride photo

T

I loved riding at night! I think I mostly like not being blinded by the sun when the doors open to the outside section, that’s a major plus. And even though I knew we weren’t going faster than any other time, it felt like it because of the darkness. Loved it!
This is so much fun. I would like to ride at night in December. Maybe Morgan and I will get to.

Epcot!

Yachtsman Steakhouse

By the time we exited TT, it was 6:20. Thank goodness I had changed the time of our dinner!

There really wasn’t enough time to do anything other than heading towards the Yacht Club so that’s what we did. And I took a quick, terrible picture along the way

Not surprisingly, we arrived with 15 minutes to spare but checked in anyway

They were not busy at all and got seated right away and given menus

For an appetizer, DH insisted on the cheese plate, cause I guess we didn’t have enough cheese during our lunch :confused3 so we put that order in right away and the server came back with some bread for us to munch on

That roasted garlic is something else. It is so wonderful!

Our server asked if DS wanted to have his own cup of water, so he brought one with a fun little straw! Never considered getting DS his own cup to entertain him. And then it wasn’t until right after this picture was taken, that I realized why we hadn’t done it in the first place

All over the floor. :headache: And it was a full cup too, nothing that I could clean up with our napkins but magically, two servers came over with towels and it was cleaned up immediately. Kind of weird how quickly that happened actually. Like there is some device in the childrens cups that goes off when it hits the floor or something :rotfl2::scratchin

Not too much longer after that, our cheese plate came

All of these were delicious, but my favorite was the Jasper Hill Landaff with the honeycomb accompaniment.

For our entrees, DM and I ordered the New York Strip Steak with the White Cheddar Twice-Baked Potato

It was cooked perfectly, oh my goodness. And the Peppercorn Brandy sauce was amazing!

I was totally into my dish that I forgot to take a picture of DH’s Prime Rib with Horseradish Cream and Sweet Potato Casserole. As delicious as my plate was, DH’s was PHENOMENAL! Would highly recommend this. I ate all of his sweet potato since he’s not a huge fan and thank goodness for that.

One regret during this meal. Not ordering the creamed spinach. The thing is, DH and DM don’t really like it and I wasn’t terribly hungry and knew it would go to waste. But it seriously the best side that they have on the menu so don’t hesistate to order it when you visit. Please. For me. Do it.

Because we were going to have to walk through Epcot to board the monorail, we decided to skip dessert here and grab something in one of the Pavilions but here is the Dessert menu for those interested

Yacht club sounds good other than the steak looks almost too done. I have never tried Yacht club so it might need to be on a wish list.

When we left the Yacht Club, it was FREEZING! And poor DH had to give up his sweater as a cover for DS. And DH was in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. It’s crazy that it was burning up a few days prior and now it was full on Winter weather. As much as I wanted to hang around Epcot and explore a bit, I knew we needed to get back quick.
It was cold on the 5th. I remember wishing at Fantasmic that night that I had a blanket to keep me warm.

Once we got into Epcot we spotted a lonely PP Photographer on the bridge so took a quick Mother Daughter shot

Walking through the UK Pavilion is just so nice at night

Taking some night shots on the way out

Love the night shots
DH was walking ahead of DM and I (Cause he’s such a fast walker, right @Pinkocto  ) so he was able to grab a few solo shots with the PP photographer at the exit

And then I popped in from behind

This would have been cute without that pesky stroller in the shot.

Ah, there we go!

But what is pretty funny, I thought the whole time DS was sleeping but when I zoom in….

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:
It appears staying warm was more important than family pics:rotfl2:

We made it back ‘home’ in no time and I got to take another bath and read! Guess I was making time for relaxation on this vacation after all!:faint:

I took a picture later that night (11:16pm to be exact!) of the deets for the next day

And we were having a DIS meet up!!!

:jumping1:

Sounds like great plans for the day

I am really caught up on another report. I need to get mine finished.

I've missed you. Glad you are having a good trip and DS is doing okay with the potty training.

I'm here and following along now!!
Just spent a long chunk of my day reading your TR! Love the way you write!

Following this thread. Really good posts so far, love reading your TR!

Thanks Karin! And my trip update is coming right up!

Is someone dissing Labryinth???

Glad you're having a fun trip :)

HECK NO!!! Are you kidding me, that was my all time fav movie when I was younger. I was always secretly wishing it was me dancing with Jareth in the ballroom scene :rotfl: (and I secretly still do!)

I loved your TR so far! You have such a funny voice, I love all your alcohol jokes (though I think I felt a bit nauseous just reading them, haha). Looking forward to more updates :)

:rotfl: I don't think i've ever made anyone nauseous before! I should be proud right?!:lmao:

 Glad you are having fun! If you didn't let him take his PS4 then he would have only had Candy Crush! That would have been cruel! :rotfl:

So so true! Except now he's playing a much more awful game. Clash of Clans! :headache:

When DS was younger (around the age of Toby in the movie) I would always sing, "You remind me of the babe" and then throw him up and sing, "Jump magic, jump!":rotfl2: Now my brother is doing the same thing with his Son. Ah the love of Jareth is upon us:hug::laughing:

Also, I always wished I was whisked away at a school dance like he did with Sarah!

:love::cloud9:

Dissing Labyrinth??? Is that even possible?? What could they possibly diss?

Thank you so much! I promise i'll get back into updating right away ::yes::

I have my next TR update ready to go, but wanted to do a mini-TR, on our Summer road trip up to Portland and Seattle. This is a drive I’ve always wanted to do for years and this year seemed like it would be the best time to do it. DH was not on bored at first, but once he got into the planning, he was very, very excited! And we tried to incorporate lots of fun things for DS to do.

Sunday, June 14

Super uneventful day. Just driving up to Redding, about 5.5 hours from home. And the drive is so, so boring and dry. DS did so well the long drives BTW. No drives lasted longer than 6 hours.

Monday, June 15

Redding, CA to Canyonville, OR – 3.5 hours

Our best drives were through Oregon. I couldn’t believe how gorgeous and green everything was!

Mt. Shasta

Oh and something crazy about Oregon. You’re not allowed to pump your own gas for whatever reason. I hated it. I felt like I was being lazy just sitting there watching them pumping my own gas.

One of the things we were doing today was making a stop at Wildlife Safari located in Winston, OR. It’s a drive-thru zoo where the majority of the animals are not bound by any cages, which was different for us.

They have the Safari Village which is a walk through area you can do which features a good amount of animals including Kangaroos, Camel Rides, a train ride around the exterior of the Village, a Bird room and lots of reptiles. They also had this cute little petting area that DS enjoyed

We spent about 45 minutes which is 40 minutes longer than we had wanted to spend :rotfl: Reviews had made it seem like there wasn’t much to do but we really enjoyed it.

Cool story. As we were checking in for our Safari tour, the girl checking us in asked where we were from and we told her and said she knew that town because she was from Bakersfield (less than an hour from us). She was very friendly and talkative and told us that her brother had severe Asthma and had been hospitalized multiple times from it. Her parents had researched areas that had the cleanest air (Central Valley is the WORST place to live if you have any respiratory problems! And people develop issues all the time, it’s quite disgusting here:crazy2:) and this area was the cleanest. Within months, his asthma had cleared and never got it again. So crazy! Anyway she went on with the precautions about rolling up the windows if animals started walking toward you and if animals stand in front of your vehicle to stay put until they move or a worker helps escort you. And in the rare case that an animal charges your car, to stay put and not leave your vehicle. And we were left with a, “Have fun!”

I have way too many videos and sadly not enough pictures so I’ll just post a few. And just like AK, the Lions were sleeping during our drive thru so no pics of them. Just found it funny that it's always been the case for us!

But we did see some bears

Giraffes

DH got freaked out by one of the Emu’s (Ostrich??:confused3)

Buffalo

And DH even taught DS to drive
https://www.youtube.com/embed/aT4gwGD8vQU

With our tickets, we were allowed to drive through one more time but DS was getting antsy and wanted to get out of the car, so thought it best to head to our hotel. BTW, I had found a deal through Living Social for $18 for 2 adults and since DS was under 3, he was free! The best $18 we’ve ever spent for sure and we’d definitely come back to visit.

Seven Feather Resort and Casino is where we were booked for the night and I was not at all excited about staying here. Had it been just DH and I, would have been no problem. But with DS? I had wanted to find something else, but DH fought me on it and won. Thoughts? Loved it! Totally not what I expected it to be. Very, very nice. Free from any smell of smoke and the workers were so hospitable and talkative. We walked past the indoor pool area on our way to the room, and it was FULL of kids. Babies, toddlers, older kids! Literally, it was like a family resort. I immediately felt comfortable seeing all these families.

We grabbed an early dinner at one of the restaurants

DH was going to go down and hit the tables later after DS was in bed and told me if I wanted I could go grab some drinks and hang out. Perfect plan since I’m not much of a gambler

And was it relaxing. They had a non smoking lounge (above pic) but no sports on so moved over to the Sports Bar where the Giants were playing and had a couple beers there. Definitely enjoyed getting some time to myself and hanging out I went back up to the room and down went DH.

Canyonville, OR – Portland, OR – 3ish hours

Everyone had slept GREAT that night! DH had gone down to get some breakfast and was talking to one of the workers about that following weekend, inquiring if it was going to be busy and because it was Fathers Day, it was going to be very busy. We still hadn’t made any hotel plans coming back home because we weren’t sure if we wanted one day to be a long driving day (8+ hours) but after staying in the hotel, we both agreed that another night here was a must. He booked a night for the upcoming Saturday, gathered our things and on the road we went!

Picture as valet was getting our car

Our view from the bench. It felt great outside!

This is outside the Casino Entrance and I sent this to DM

who replied:

DM: Is that Eagle Real?

Me: Yep!

DM: Oh wow was Calvin intrigued?

Me: Mom that wasn’t real

DM: Oh you

Me: Mom that thing’s like 30 feet wide!

DM: I thought it looked LARGE but then I thought it was the photo

:rotfl:

Today we were visiting Oaks Amusement Park located in Portland. It had gotten varied reviews, mainly people talking about it being a park geared more towards smaller children. Uh, perfect for us then! And that day we were visiting happened to be Two for One Tuesday! YAY! I hadn’t planned on riding anyway so this totally worked out.

The park is very small and it’s free admittance so you just have to pay for rides. It was the perfect size for us because we didn’t want to spend the entire day there. And of course, he loved all the rides he got on!

The Carousel

The Slides, my POV

And DH holding the GoPro

Immediately after DS wanted to go on again so up he went with DH. And I took a picture of them getting ready to come down

And then I saw this

DH had pushed him down by himself :scared1: DS had started twisting but maneuvered himself out of it and came down okay.

Onto a Rollercoaster. I took some video but I’ll just show them getting out

https://www.youtube.com/embed/TvGxLJ4j3hE

Not happy. DH said he was laughing the first time around, but it had done a second rotation so once was enough for him I guess!

A Balloon Ride to calm him down

And I took this picture literally seconds before he fell and made a big, bloody mess of his knee

We did have to go to the First Aid Center to get it cleaned out and bandaged up but he was fine. I had gotten an Icee while they were in line for the Balloon ride and this was DS’s first one so of course, he obsessed over it and forgot about his knee.:thumbsup2

They got on a train ride, where of course, DS took the Icee along for a ride:laughing: You can kind of see him sucking it down. He rarely looked up once that was in his hands!

DS was starting to get really sleepy so we ended up leaving earlier than expected but we managed to do just enough for him (and at so cheap too!) and now, it was onto my time of the trip. I have a scary obsession for donuts. ::yes:: And all I hear about in Portland is Voodoo Doughnuts. This would be the perfect time to let DS sleep in the carseat while I made a donut run before checking into our studio

Voodoo is known for their more eclectic concoctions, which I’m totally onboard with. I was prepared to have to wait a bit knowing that it’s busy all the time, but when I showed up, I was the only customer! :hyper: But I did have to walk a little bit through their queue that they have set up.

I told him to give me 5 of whatever and 1 old fashioned (Cause it’s my true love)

Here’s what I got

Cap’n Crunch and a Portland Cream

Cotton Candy and Butterfinger

Oreo and my Old Fashioned

Skipping ahead, after we checked into our studio, I immediately ate the Cap’n Crunch and the Butterfinger. Great oden’s raven, were they amazing! And very soft for me picking them up later in the afternoon!

Backing up a bit, if I can find a vacation rental for about the same price as a hotel room, I’ll do it. And I researched and found the perfect little spot located in Southeast Portland.

And it was located two blocks away from Belmont Street which is known for their fantastic restaurants and coffee shops :hyper:

DH had done some research and found a great burger place called Dick’s Kitchen. We were all set to venture out when I asked, why don’t we just pick it up and bring it back? DH was totally onboard so I called in our order and we walked the two blocks and picked it up, while making a stop at a boutique market for milk, fruit and beer.

For DS, the grilled cheese with a side of broccoli

DH ordered “The Zizou” French Onion Cheese Burger with Blue Cheese and I added a Water Buffalo Slider (cause I knew he’d still be hungry)

And I got the Miss Piggy Burger with Blue Cheese

In the pictures are Dick’s Infamous “Not Fries”

I had a beer with my food. Had I known DH would not have been drinking, I wouldn’t have gotten a lager but it was still refreshing

DH brought his PS4 along with him for down town time (it’s his vacation too, I guess! LOL) so while he played and ‘watched’ DS

I went to the patio area, drank a beer and read

ETA: The DIS just censored the name of the restaurant! LOL!

Portland, OR to Seattle, WA – 2 hours, 45 mins

When DH was researching restaurants online, he found The Waffle Window for breakfast. DH offered to walk over there and pick up breakfast for us, which I must say, I was shocked that he offered. But he wanted to get a little exercise in. Works for me! I told him what I wanted and asked him to make an additional stop at Stumptown for some coffee.

He got back within 30 minutes with our breakfast and couldn’t stop talking about how much he loved walking around this area. He is sold on coming back!

On to breakfast! Normally, I only take my waffles sweet, but because I had some doughnuts leftover, I decided to go the savory route.

I ordered the Three B’s: Bacon, Brie and Basil served with house-made peach jam

DH ordered the Alberta with bacon and maple syrup and he added an organic fried egg

And he picked up a couple of drips from Stumptown

Definitely not your normal Starbucks or DD. I can’t explain the taste, but it was thicker, not thin like regular black coffees. Very full bodied and amazing flavor. Ugh, it was wonderful!

While driving to Seattle, we needed to make a potty stop for DS and saw this getting off an exit

I looked it up and not only do they have an espresso menu, they have a cigarette menu! CRAZY!

And caught our first glimpse of Seattle

We headed first to Pike Place Market and oh my gosh, parking is terrible down there! After driving around for 15 minutes we finally found a parking garage with some open spaces and headed down.

It was packed and this was the only shot I got down there

I had wanted to go to the Pike Place Chowder but the line was crazy. We didn’t have a back up unfortunately, so checked out the next closest restaurant and headed there, called the Steelhead Diner, where we had an amazing bowl of clam chowder that had a small drizzle of truffle oil and I had the Fish and Chips to share with DS

And DH had some type of sandwich but we were pleased with our unexpected lunch spot!

We stuck around for a little while longer but really wanted to check into our small apartment over in West Seattle

And our place for the next two nights

Entrance to apartment

But here is what sold on us staying here

Absolutely stunning patio with tons of seating and zero gravity chairs. The owner does some amazing arrangements with her urns and vases that I’ll show in a bit.

The SF Giants were in town (how random is that!?) so we knew we had to see them but held off on getting tickets in case it rained. Forecast was good that day so we bought tickets about 3 hours before the game and learned that we could take the Water Taxi over to the stadium from West Seattle, so we headed over to the dock area.

cont. from previous post

When we got off the water taxi, we realized we had made a big mistake. We hadn’t even thought about bringing the stroller and the park was close to a mile away. Honestly, not that far, but with a toddler it was difficult. We had to carry him the majority of the way and he’s a fat little guy, so when we saw this, we were relieved. And tired. And hot. And wasn’t sure how we would make it back :rotfl2:

We bought the cheapest tickets available because we knew we wouldn’t be hanging around for the entire game. That, and we were hoping that our tickets had available seats next to them so DS would have his own seat since he was free to get in, but had no dedicated seat.

Gorgeous view from inside the top deck food area

And our view

His first Professional Baseball game!

He got bored an hour into the game and luckily I remembered to bring his iPad and they had wifi!

Apparently, he got bored too

And you can tell by the above pics, he was able to get his own seat with no problem.

We left during the middle of the 6th because we didn’t want to walk through that part of town in the dark while holding DS. And the game had been pretty boring up till that point and when we were exiting the Mariners had scored. Boo!

Once on the Water Taxi, I wanted to sit outside so we can get awesome views of the skyline as we pulled away from the dock

A couple sitting behind us offered to take a picture of all of us once we docked which was nice to have

Driving back home

I think vacation had caught up to us at this point because we slept in LATE! 9:30am! :faint:

Originally, we were going to go into the city to do the Space Needle and the Glass Museum. We were not in the mood to do any of that. So we hung around a bit

Grabbed coffee at Top Pot – And for anyone that enjoys Starbucks donuts, this is the company that makes their donuts!

I had to figure out something low key to do and found there was a park in West Seattle called Lincoln Park that I thought DS could walk around in and play since there was a playground. Now I was thinking like a random park that you would find in any city. So we pull up and we feel like we’re in a forest

It was absolutely beautiful! Come to find out, it’s 135 acres. Much, much larger than I was thinking but we were so glad that we found this.

The rest of the day was spend on Alki Beach, were we walked along the sidewalk and stopped at Tully’s to have some coffee

DS had fun here too, with his first hot chocolate and arranging the kiddie chairs

Dinner was at a pizza place called Pegasus Pizza where we shared a Greek Salad and Medium half Combo, half Tom’s Special (Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions, Olives, Feta and Mozz cheese, Garlic, Diced Tomatoes, Spinach, Sunflower seeds and shredded pepperoni

Delicious!

When we got back to the house, the water had come up all the way to the wall

And I still couldn’t get over how gorgeous the patio was

Seattle, WA to Newport OR

One last look before we leave

We were stopping halfway to fulfill one of DH’s dreams on this trip…to eat at a Ruby Tuesday. There is a very small handful of locations across the West Coast and none near us, so when he saw the route we were taking today, he knew we would be stopping for lunch here.

We sent this to my brother who was very upset and asked us to save any leftovers for him :rotfl2:

Our main focus today was the Oregon Coast Aquarium. We arrived at the best time possible, around 3:30, an hour and half before closing time and hardly any one was there so we were able to view without having to wait on anyone or need to worry about people waiting on us.

Look out point

DH said he was turtle heading

He loved this fish in particular, it kept following his finger

Our next stop was to see the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse

Where we stayed for not even a minute because of how windy it was and we were totally not dressed properly!

The only shot of the rocks I got but they are covered in birds and it’s super loud

Entrance fees to the lighthouse also include all trails around the mountain and we found a secluded beach area. This was unfortunately, the closest thing we got to a ‘beach’ vacation this trip
