Houston, We Have A Secret: A TX Vacation With A WDW Surprise ...aaand Done! Page 43

Oh. Dubuque. That sounds....nice. :confused3

Do foreign heads of state visiting the White House say they are looking forward to seeing the President?
Do Catholics visiting the Vatican say they are looking forward to seeing the pope?
Do hot tourists waiting in line in the blazing sun at Aloha Isle say they are looking forward to seeing a Dole Whip?

I thought some things were just implied and didn't need to be said...
:thumbsup2

Hey, Dubuque has a nice casino at least. :)

That is true. Plus, I didn't make a dumb wager on the NFC Championship game (I knew who was going to win that game considering who our quarterback is ;) ) so I don't "owe" you a meal.

So apprently that means that it was not implied for me.... I suppose that makes sense. :lmao:

Hey, where's the Chicagoland support? :confused3

I'd like to take credit for planning that time into our touring plan, but it was basically dumb luck. :rotfl2:

Dumb luck is where lots of us get our "smarts" :thumbsup2

So did you know what a natatorium was? I had to look it up.

I know I know I know what it is.

Before I get on with the rest of the Trip Report, I wanted to pause for a few minutes and say how wonderful it makes me feel that all of you are reading along. I'd also like to specifically thank all of the Houston-area readers for your kind words. I'm sure you were pretty surprised to see a Disney Trip Report in your own back yard,

Which is what got Bambi and I to thinking. We had such as good time exploring a new area of the country that we're thinking about doing it again. Which is where all of you come in.

Madison's spring break for next year is the first week of March. We have a few ideas of where to go, but we're not set on anything. So, here is your opportunity to sell us on your neck of the woods. What makes your hometown great? What draws people there? What keeps them coming back? Basically, why should someone come and spend their tourist dollars there? (Don't worry, if we like your city that much and decided to visit, we won't be hitting you up to crash on your couch or anything.)

So, if anyone is willing, leave a post here telling us why I should write a Trip Report about your backyard.

you cant get better than the lehigh valley. the crayola factory, just born candies(home of the peeps!) dorney park. you are one hour from hershey pa. home of the hershey bar, hershey factory and hershey park. one hour from new york city and philly!! (these are just o few of the things to do around here for kids. alot of history in philly and new york city is just something you have to see. and the best part, theres about 10 disdads within an hour of me!!!:thumbsup2 just thinking, the pocono mtns are 20 min. away. if your an old movie buff, the movie thr molly mcguires were shot about 40 min. north of me.(near jason) theres just to much to mention.

Barry dear you forgot to add the "rules" regarding the vacation. I would love to see another area of the country BUT it needs to meet my criteria.
1) I will not have to pack a jacket
2) 3 hours or less to fly from Milwaukee and 3 hours or less to Orlando
3) Kid friendly

Anything else is acceptable.

I see that Dave has submitted a request and while I have thought about that part of the country I would like to be sure I do not need to pack a jacket.

Great LMA pics...love all the hidden details you caught!

For your future vacation destinations, I don't think MN would fit Bambi's criteria, sorry! Besides, you practically live next door anyway.

I don't think you're supposed to notice things like that!
I'm sort of a stickler for details...
I think my backyard is a little bit far for you to go but if you want have a look at my PTR linked below. (free advertising?!) I've just made a post about our annual festival. You can start planning for next year lol! Why wouldn't you want to visit a town where they race piggies?! :goodvibes
The festival looks like a lot of fun, but yeah, a little out of our way. Europe is on our bucket list, though, so maybe one day we'll make it over there.
And we actually have pig races here! Every year at the Wisconsin State Fair they set up a pig race track. The pigs start in little starting blocks, just like horse races. They open the gates, and the pig race around the track to the Oreo cookie at the end. Except for one smart pig a few years ago. The gates opened, and after all of the other pig started running, he turned around, walked 3 or 4 feet, and ate the Oreo!

great pics barry!!!:thumbsup2
Thanks Dave!

I haven't been to a casino in probably 15 years. If I'm going to throw my money away, it's at least going to be at Disney!:rotfl2:

So apprently that means that it was not implied for me.... I suppose that makes sense. :lmao:
Come on, Brian. I've got enough love to go around. Make sure you bring Perry. :dogdance:

Hey, where's the Chicagoland support? :confused3
Love most Chicago teams. But the Bears need a quarterback and an offensive line before they'll go anywhere. :goodvibes
Well, you just got Gabe Carimi (Left Tackle out of Wisconsin). That guy is a beast. A friend of ours actually ran into him in WDW in December while he was down there for a college football awards ceremony. (Gabe, not our friend. He was just on vacation.) You don't realize just how BIG some of these guys are until you're standing right next to them.

Dumb luck is where lots of us get our "smarts" :thumbsup2
If it weren't for dumb luck, I'd have no luck at all.

You had me up until "home of the peeps". Unless you're also "home of a big honkin' microwave to blow them suckers up", I don't want nothing to do with those nasty little piles of sugar.
The rest of it sounds nice, though!:thumbsup2

oops. How about a long sleeve shirt? Would we be OK packing one of those?

We've actually spent a good amount of time over there. Bambi's parents used to live in one of the Northwest suburbs and we'd be up there a few times a year. We've been meaning to get back up to the MoA, and Como Park Zoo was pretty fun last time we were there.

As promised, here are a bunch of pictures from the Lights! Motors! Action! Stunt show. I've made fun of it in the past for being overtly sponsored by Brawny Paper Towels - including having plenty of rolls of paper towel in the garage areas as you walk in.
What??? :scared1: Are you trying to tell me Disney is guilty of product placement???

Funny, when I break a window, it's usually is more pieces. And they're usually jagged.
And then you have to go explain it to Bambi. :lmao::rotfl2:

Yet another Disney job to submit my application for.
The list of those jobs seems to grow by the minute.:thumbsup2

And just to prove that Madison was paying attention in Kindergarten's Fire Safety week, she started yelling "Stop Drop and Roll!" right about here:
:thumbsup2 Good job, Madison!

Since you're from Wisconsin, you'd better define what jacket weather is. Are we talking cooler than freezing?:confused3 :lmao::rotfl2: It's a fine line, because we still need to make sure it is cool enough for Barry to wear his official DISdads meet sweatshirt.

Given that it will be early March I can settle for a sweatshirt as we would probably need to make sure we pack one for WDW anyways. I just do not want to pack the kids winter jackets, snow pants, boots, ect. Those are places to visit in the summer and give an excuse for summer vacations. "But dear we can't go to Niagara Falls in the winter..."

Any other rules that need to be clarified?

"I say, Mr. Oblivious. Do you fancy a trip to natatorium this evening to cool off from this dreadful weather we're having?"

Quite so, my good man. Perhaps tea and crumpets after--

*cough* Sorry, I can't keep talking like that. What's a crumpet, anyway? :confused3

He's also a good fall back in case I can't think of something for Christmas, birthday, etc. Just buy something with Eeyore on it. (I hope she didn't read that...)

I'll never tell. :stir:

Something tells me that you and Mark are going to have a field day on Monday... :sad2:

:woohoo:

Well, there is no point in me doing this as you'll be in my "neck of the woods" next week. :goodvibes

:cool1:

Yeah, what she said. :cool1:
See ya Monday.

Chicago doesn't seem like a "vacation destination." Not because it's not a cool city, but if I can drive there in 90 minutes or less, it just doesn't seem vacationy.

Really? Uh oh. This sounds like a problem.

Yup. We're meeting up with Brian for dinner on Monday night. He's finally paying up his Deep Dish Pizza bet from the NFC Championship Game. :thumbsup2

And...um...I picked the Packers to win that game, too. :rolleyes1

Hey, you didn't say you were looking forward to seeing me on Monday. :headache:

I'm looking forward to seeing you, Kathy! And making fun of Barry. :woohoo:

I was telling Danny about your DIS meet Saturday (during that exciting ball game I was at :sad2:). I was thinking you were meeting on the week-end. I told him that they were doing a tour at Wrigley, he said he didn't think they did them on game days. Then my mind got to going (since it wasn't occupied by the ball game) and I thought maybe since there was a bus trip on Sunday, if that was the day of your meet, I might try to figure someway to crash it, or do a "drive-by" or something:rolleyes:. But I see you are meeting on Monday. The bad news is that I won't be able to stalk a pack of DIS-ers, the good news is, I won't have to sit through another one of those excruciating ball games! :woohoo::woohoo:

I looked into getting game tickets, then saw I would need a 2nd mortgage to do so. So I looked for an off-day to do the tour, instead. I think my boys will enjoy that more, actually.

I wish you could crash the lunch! The more the merrier!

Well, my backyard has a playground WITH a swingset, as well as a deck where you can relax with your beverage of choice. And it's definitely warmer than Wisconsin in March, and within a 3-hour flight. And we have room for wiffle ball and Nerf football games as well.

Ok, maybe you want to widen the search just past my backyard. Well, you know what they say about Delaware: So Close To Where You'd Rather Be. We offer a great home base to explore D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. D.C. has great (Free!) museums, a zoo, and a very nice subway system that my kids think is also an attraction in and of itself. Not to mention all the historic spots in the I-95 corridor.

Oh, and did I mention the great beaches? Besides Slaughter Beach, I mean.

If nothing else convinces you, there is the matter of Mrs. Knowitall's Key Lime Pie of Awesomeness.

As promised, here are a bunch of pictures from the Lights! Motors! Action! Stunt show. I've made fun of it in the past for being overtly sponsored by Brawny Paper Towels - including having plenty of rolls of paper towel in the garage areas as you walk in.

You'd think one of the big insurance companies would want to get in on that action.

But enough of the product placement. Let's get to some smoke and fire, flying cars and falling people, shall we?

::yes:: :thumbsup2

Funny, when I break a window, it's usually is more pieces. And they're usually jagged. More Disney Magic!

Maybe it's a LEGO window? :confused3

And just to prove that Madison was paying attention in Kindergarten's Fire Safety week, she started yelling "Stop Drop and Roll!" right about here:

Good job Madison! The rest of us are too buys taking pictures/video of a guy on fire.

Great pictures, Barry! :thumbsup2 <---Thumb
