Anyone have recommendations for good off-site restaurants near the Animal Kingdom Lodge area?
Sweet Tomatoes, though, is a little further from AKL. It's at the crossings plaza at the other end of Disney, going through DTD. After passing all the hotels on the plaza, just cross over into the Crossings. You need to take the access road until it curves, make a left into the parking area and you should see Sweet Tomatoes on the left there. We love that place.
AKL has a ton of offsite dining options close by on 192. There is even a little side road (W Access Rd) that takes you right to them. We ate at Sweet Tomato, which was very good for the price (soup/salad buffet with special breads and a limited hot food selection) for $9 a person. Here's directions to the location with Google Maps http://goo.gl/maps/uesr
I think that the previous poster was probably referring to the Sweet Tomatoes that's about a mile and a half east of Sherberth Road on SR 192 in the shopping center that features the "new" Target store (take a right at the light at the end of Sherberth and go about 1.5 miles, Sweet Tomatoes is on the left).
There are other relatively new restaurants in that same area - an Applebees,

It's been known to happen that I'm wrong from time to time, just ask my wife, she'll say that not a minute goes by, but I thought that that access road had a chain link gate across it. I know that it at least used to be for Disney personnel use only.

Isn't it 1 1/2 west? ...you take Sherbeth down to 192, then turn right (which is west) for about a mile and a half.
