Disney "modify reservation" survey thru email

I don't condone stealing in anyway... And staying past the hours is basically just that. But Disney is not blameless
When they are charging high fees for "different parts of the day"
+1...but, considering the prices guests pay, Disney is "stealing" from the guests when Disney doesn't pay enough CMs to politely escort the free loaders out of the park.

Universal has a similar policy with regard to resort reservations. It prevents guests from benefiting when they book rooms on "spec". Guests who book 4 days at a discount (annual pass, AAA etc) who want to drop a day will only get to keep the discount if the 3 days they want to keep are available to customers who want to book a new reservation. Guests who book a reservation the second discounts are available don't have an advantage over guests who want until their plans are firm.

There are several treads on this on the resort board. Evidently Disney changed its policy in regards to modifying resort reservations about 3 weeks ago. People are being told that if the shortened stay is not available for their resort and room type in the CRO computer, they are not allowed to modify the reservation. There have been a few people who have reported requesting a supervisor and they have been able to get the requested nights dropped and others have not been successful. Some people have needed to change their resort or room type in order to drop nights from the reservation. Many people are speculating that this policy has been enacted because Disney has become wise to people booking resort reservations for more nights than they actually need in order to have a better chance of securing difficult to obtain ADR's and/or FastPass+ reservations.

Here are two of the more extensive threads on this issue:

http://www.disboards.com/threads/has-anyone-else-been-told-this.3403073/

http://www.disboards.com/threads/cm-said-i-cannot-change-my-stay.3402743/

I perused the linked threads and most of the problems seems somewhat legitimate from the customer perspective...it also seems legit from Disney's side.

There are scammers (it appears) complaining...not that they're coming out and saying it. Like when somebody booked for 8 and then casually calls 4 months out and "innocently" tried to change it to 4...I'm thinking there's an angle. 6 to 5 is one thing...but that dog don't hunt.

The frequent complaint is that people overbook and then shave it to get the best flight prices. Wow...papa Disney don't like that at all. And I can see why... That's pulling the garbage of the airlines into their operation and revenue projections. Housekeeping cost alot more on check in/check out days - so shorter stays increase costs too.

Another comment was "I don't know what the calender/commitments will be that far out"

I guess I gotta ask - do people do that? Shorten their trip to Florida for a birthday party or a lacrosse game?

I might be old fashioned but we just skip what's on our vacation schedule. Life goes on - ya know?

Interesting insight...to say the least.

That interesting...

I think Disney is "stealing" from it's customers when they use the reservation system to only staff half the tables at a table service restaurant and then turn walk ups away because they are hedging their bets on labor allocation.

That privilege should be included in the admission price - the option of using facilities - and always was. They just casually swept it away.

A guest pays $$$ for an "exclusive" party. A guest isn't getting what he's paying for when Disney doesn't enforce policy.

Guests aren't promised availability of restaurants.

Your point makes too much sense. In what world is it good customer service to turn away walk ups from a half empty restaurant. Why not be creative with the app. Good news we now have availability at Mama Melrose. The situation you are describing isn't recent. Almost 10 years ago I dined at Mama Melrose shortly before the start of Osborne Lights. The restaurant was very empty but they were turning away walk ups. Same thing this past December.

In what world (rhetorical question..we know the answer) do customers think they need advance reservations to dine at their hotel or a tourist attraction like WDW.

I agree...but I'm not so iron fist on that...

First, the parties are a scam - plain and simple. The costs have risen dramatically (to say nothing of the tacky upsells) and its for such a short window.

And honestly...at $113 bucks... Or whatever it is a day for magic kingdom... In nice weather in at least October... It's amounts to a half day admission scenario.

And if it was 1-2 nights a week, I could also understand it more...it's certainly possible to plan around a night or two - even on a short trip. But it's getting hard with 40+ dates.

I agree! Before all the parties, when you bought a day's ticket you got more for your money. Now, because of the parties that are taking place, you are limiting the hours and options for those just with standard tickets.

Never got the survey, but I tried to modify my reservation online and ran into trouble. Was going to change from POR to CBR to get the free dining during our stay this Christmas and it would not let me check out at the end. Did it numerous times until I got very frustrated. Well guess what??? I sent a email to Disney letting them know I was not happy. Did not expect anything, but last weekend I get a phone call from a Disney rep who goes ahead and modifies my reservation to include free dining! WOW, I really have to say I was impressed with the customer service and now am really looking forward to our trip. Way to go Disney!!

@MIKEYD820 I am really happy that you got what you were wanting in the end. Good on Disney for listening. I was afraid that this survey might have only been sent to those of us lucky enough to seamlessly modify our reservations using that brand spankin' new modify button, especially on that Monday when FD was rolled out. Because if that were the case, I would think the data would be skewed. The wording a few places in the survey "read" that way to me.

Congrats again :yay:
