Disney "modify reservation" survey thru email

I was just sent, & completed, a survey by Disney. The text said that they saw that I had recently used the "modify" button & it then went on to ask about free dining. Just thought that some of you might want to check your email for the survey. It seems that from the text they are only sending it to people who modified online, so I don't know that they will get a whole, complete picture of the April 27th Free Dining debacle.

Also Disboards was an option on a list of sites that I might have consulted before making my modification. So I clicked it. I've been on here a lot, learning from all of you Dis veterans.

I just got the email and completed the survey as well. Seems like Disney is definitely try to gauge how "bad" this was for them. It did seem geared more toward the online modification process, so i am assuming only people who modified online will get this. They recieved a fairly good review from me since I did not have much problem modifying online once I realized I wasn't going to get through on the phone.

Wonder if this is possibility related to the change in dropping nights from a resort reservation? There have been numerous threads on the resorts board where people have called to drop a night or two off their reservation and have been told by CM's that this is no longer allowed unless the resort has the shortened stay already in the reservation system. Doesn't make much sense to me, maybe Disney is becoming wise to people who make reservations for longer stays just to have a better shot of getting hard to reserve restaurants?

Is it a case of Disney management coming up with tricky rules that are supposed to maximize revenues by offering the smallest discounts and incentives wrapped in the most elaborate conditions possible ... then being surprised when people brainstorm to come up with the most money-saving end runs and use every possible loophole in order to get the most for their money?

If so, it shows that they're not giving their customers enough credit for being as smart as them. Always a bad idea.

What's the angle here?

Are people known to book longer stays to get access to the dining system for the trainwrecks known as chef mickeys and be our guest?

I mean...if so - good grief. I'd be with Disney on this one - and that is not common.

I received the Disney modify survey e-mail, but in error. I made my reservation on line that day, but I haven't modified it in any way. In fact, I want to change my ticket option from water parks to park hopper, but I am too afraid to touch it !:rotfl2:

There are many posts on the resort board where people admit to doing this. They only intend to stay say 5 nights but make their reservation for 7 to 8 nights in order to have a better shot at getting hard to obtain dining reservations and FP+ (Be Our Guest and the Frozen meet and greets especially). Once they have these reservations, they call back and request to drop the first 2 to 3 nights off the reservation. Seems like Disney has become wise to this process and is making it more difficult to modify resort reservations.

OK, learned something new today yet again. It never crossed my mind to do that w/ reservations.

I assumed that the email was geared toward trying to gauge how well the site did that date regarding those of us that were lucky enough to modify our reservations to switch from paying for the DDP to getting it for free since the last few questions related to the FD promo.

Believe it or not, when fastpass+ and the magic bands were first introduced , there were people who would book one night at either one of the All Star Resorts or a campsite at Fort Wilderness with the intention of not using the room or campsite. They would then have magic bands and could make fastpass+ reservations. In the early days MDE, you were allowed to make fastpass+ reservations for as many days as was on your ticket irregardless of the number of resort nights that were booked. There were extensive threads on the disboards telling people how to do this. Disney eventually become wise to what was going on and changed MDE.

I was just reading a thread about on-site perks being fair or not and I did come across someone talking about "throwaway rooms" so I guess that does happen. I wonder if Disney is having any luck trying to combat that practice.

Apparently still a common practice according to an ongoing thread about it.

I didn't realize that this was still happening. I thought Disney had put measures in place to stop the practice of throwaway rooms, guess not! :sad2:

Honestly...I can't stand Disney scammers.

They ruined dining for about 5 years...and are always doing stupid stuff like this.

Be our guest is not good...get over it. The food at chef mickeys, akershus, cinderellas is some of the worst on property...

Again... Get over it.

Bravo to Disney if they caught it.

And these are typically not your "once in a lifetime" crowds...these are your repeat offenders. The same types who used to keep 1 dining reservation in each park each day... To satisfy "whim". Which is rude and Inconsiderate. Everybody pays the same.

I don't understand - if you haven't made the change yet, how could they have the shorter stay in the system? I don't mean to be dense...I feel like I'm missing something . Are you saying that even though many people plan this vacation a year or more in advance, you are no longer allowed to make changes to it even outside of the time when payment is due?

There are several treads on this on the resort board. Evidently Disney changed its policy in regards to modifying resort reservations about 3 weeks ago. People are being told that if the shortened stay is not available for their resort and room type in the CRO computer, they are not allowed to modify the reservation. There have been a few people who have reported requesting a supervisor and they have been able to get the requested nights dropped and others have not been successful. Some people have needed to change their resort or room type in order to drop nights from the reservation. Many people are speculating that this policy has been enacted because Disney has become wise to people booking resort reservations for more nights than they actually need in order to have a better chance of securing difficult to obtain ADR's and/or FastPass+ reservations.

Here are two of the more extensive threads on this issue:

I received this survey way before the FD offer came out so I think it's just Disney doing some analysis. I also took the survey on the website that asked about the online process. After taking both I was hoping to get some sort of PIN code. Didn't happen.

Can we add to the mix people that don't pay for the MNSSHP and MVMCP and hang around hoping not to be spotted by CMs? We had a lady and her 2 kids sitting front and center at the MNSSHP for the parade and she was told several times she had to leave and she refused! They finally got her I think but it's just the nerve of people thinking they can "outsmart" everyone.

I agree...but I'm not so iron fist on that...

First, the parties are a scam - plain and simple. The costs have risen dramatically (to say nothing of the tacky upsells) and its for such a short window.

And honestly...at $113 bucks... Or whatever it is a day for magic kingdom... In nice weather in at least October... It's amounts to a half day admission scenario.

I don't condone stealing in anyway... And staying past the hours is basically just that. But Disney is not blameless
When they are charging high fees for "different parts of the day"

And if it was 1-2 nights a week, I could also understand it more...it's certainly possible to plan around a night or two - even on a short trip. But it's getting hard with 40+ dates.
