December weather.. so confused

Great thread- we leave in 5 days and I have been wondering myself what to pack. Very helpful tips - thanks everyone!! :)

I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around what to pack. We leave Friday so I'll throw the shorts and capris and t-shirts in, and maybe 2 pairs of pants and sweatshirts per person?:confused3. My real concern is that things can change on a moments notice and while it may be in the 80's when we get there it could be in the 40's by the end of the 10 days. I think I will just have to bring a bit of everything and plan to do laundry. The good news is we're flying with Southwest and have 2 bags per person free. The bad news is we only own one suitcase and one carry on each:rolleyes:. I'll see if I can borrow luggage from my mom or my sister.

Pigletto, we seem of like mind again. Just packing today for our trip on Thursday, and I've told the kids to pull out shorts and tees for each day we're there, two pairs of jeans and two sweatpants, a lightweight and heavy hoodie. The big question today was fleece pjs or short sets for at night... Looks like we'll be splitting the difference. And we picked up luggage from a friend to accommodate all this stuff... Including the Christmas decorations that are coming with us! Also bringing a few pashminas... They are small, don't take up much room and are quick to throw around your neck or the kids if they get cold. Can't wait to get there!

Its not usually this warm in FL. Typically anything Orlando up to Georgia is in the 60s during the day around this time of year. Its been unusually hot the past few days. But last week it was in the 40-50s during the day so. Its just the way Florida is, people think our weather is always wonderful and its just not lol. Its bi-polar and spastic. My best advice is bring layers and one semi-heavy jacket incase another the weather decides to get cold again. When I say cold I mean 40-50's which you northern's might not find that cold :lmao:

Also you can't every go wrong with light weight wind breakers. I own every color Polo makes in them because they work great with our weather most of the time rain/humid/random cold/random hot.

Yes, I would pack for everything, just in case.

Really, I'm about 3 hours south of Disney, my parents are in Longwood, about 1/2 an hour from Disney. It has been unusually warm and humid down here this last week or so. We had a cold front go through around Thanksgiving, which made for some nice weather.

That winter storm is sitting over the middle of the country right now. Until it decides to blow through, it will stay warm and humid.

Cold fronts are the only thing that bring cold weather down here. But with a cold front, comes a day or so of rain. :/ But after that, clear skies and cool temperatures. At least for a few days. Then it's warm again LOL.

Can you believe how soon our trips are?!?! :goodvibes
Do you do laundry while you are there? I usually do, and I don't find it too bad. It allows me to pack less.
Are you bringing your coats? They will take up a lot of room, but I really think I should just in case. Basically if I don't, there will be record low temperatures, and if I do, it will be 80 the whole time and our coats will sit in the closet. Murphys law::yes::. I think I will stick with the fall weight jackets though instead of the heavy winter ones.

Thanks for the insider perspective:thumbsup2. We were there in February last year. It started off really nice but got down to the 40's and windy during the last few days. We needed gloves and hats and I wished at the time that I had a warmer coat!

We're from eastern WA state and at home the lows are in the negatives! Anyways, I packed judging from Thanksgiving week weather (which was cooler) and was so so wrong! Was at Epcot yesterday and waiting in the sun for Mary Poppins and Aurora was almost unbearable. Those Duffy fans were on high (lol) and it was comical that we were sweating in December. We were standing in direct sun, but it wasn't so bad when in the shade.
On Thursday we were at Animal Kingdom and it was very warm there, bordering on too warm, but we avoided the sun.
On Friday we were at Blizzard Beach and that was seriously wonderful! It was practically empty, no waits! That was a magical day lol, Caribbean weather! Downtown Disney was the best weather that evening (as every evening), perfect summer weather, lol (parking situation not so perfect, lol, but was fine Thursday night).
Anyways, I only packed 2 skirts/shorts for the kids. It was so ridiculous wearing our winter coats, hoodies and knit caps flying in. I've been wearing jeans each day and rolled up long sleeved tees. The jeans only really bothered me at Magic Kingdom, but would have been SO much happier and comfortable in skirts or shorts! It will be funny to see all the pictures with the kids in the same 2 skirts all week, but luckily we have a washing machine! Okay, that's my 2 cents, time to get ready for MK!

Before I go, here is a crowd picture of what people were wearing at Epcot yesterday:) Just to gauge.

We are here now and it is HOT! We left Epcot around noon time yesterday to go home and swim bc it was THAT hot! Lets hope it cools off today and tomorrow so we can really enjoy. :)

That picture puts it in perspective. I mean even if I know what 80 or 85 is.. when you walk outside and it's freezing cold here it is almost impossible to imagine!
I'll stick with my plan to pack a bit of everything:)

Yeah, 80 to 85, then add humidity on top of that.

Where you're from and acclimated to makes a big difference. Those of us from south Texas can wear jeans and long sleeves into the mid 80s without breaking a sweat. We're also grabbing a light jacket for upper 60s as that is wintery to us.

Yes exactly! I'm packing today, and it never even entered my mind to pack shorts.

Long pants
Long sleeves
Jacket for night time
maybe my winter hat as well
I debated about taking my snow boots, but decided I'd get too many funny looks.

Don't talk to me about shorts until it gets over 100.

Growing up in Texas has conditioned me against hot weather. I live in TN now (brrr), and I pretty much wear 3 pairs of pants and 3 shirts almost everyday, plus boots, wool socks, a coat, a scarf, and a hat, and I'm still freezing here. Like my hands turn blue, not joking. I can't wait to go to Fl wear I can wear one pair of pants.

Those of you from the north, however, will probably find Fl hot. All my northern friends do, and while I'm bundled up, they are usually running around in shorts sweating. But as others have said, the temp can swing drastically from hot to cold (especially if you are staying out late), so it doesn't hurt to be prepared. It can get cold at night (40s) and also randomly go from 85 one day to 45 the next. Plus I've been told 40s and 50s with humidity feel much colder than without, so I'm sure you will want a jacket at the least for at night, but if you aren't from TX you are probably good for shorts during the day. :)

We are about an hour away from Disney and it almost 80 degrees and 11am! Good thing I brought extra shorts! Thanks for the pic!

Packing right now for my trip next week.

Looking at the forecast is like looking like Porn for a Northerner like me. 80s and high 70s every day!!

Even so, I'm bringing one sweater, one fleece. 3 pair of pants each (will rewear if nec.) and some long sleeve t-shirts. The bulk of our bags will be shorts, t-shirts and warm weather gear.

:furious: This is not me being mad. It's me forcing the sunshine to stick around all next week and for hot, hot, hot weather.

Now, I might be new to this, but what does that have to do with the weather?

:rotfl:

We were at WDW two weeks ago and I wore Capris every day. I rarely wore a jacket at night, but there were a few nights I was glad I had one. I did take a couple pair of jeans, but never wore them. My husband wore jeans every day and was rarely uncomfortable in them. The humitity is still very high it seems like to me. The temps are much more comfortable than in Sept. and Oct. though.
