Couple sneaks Wedding in the Tiki Room~Feelings? and other sneaky things done in the parks

So is the big deal that if they allow stealth weddings in the parks, those who had a DFTW are then in a less exclusive group? Really? I just can't wrap my head around that.

I used to read the wedding planning board a bit when a friend was getting married, and I know that these stealth weddings were kind of a sore spot for a lot of posters there. I can't speak for Disney brides, as I was not one myself, but I wonder if there is a little bit of jealousy that comes into play for some (not anyone specific on this thread - I'm not accusing anyone here of that). Since Disney won't hold a DFTW ceremony in the park, people like the Tiki Room couple do end up getting something denied to those having a DFTW. But again, the experiences are vastly different, so I just can't find it in myself to compare the two.

not sure if 'jealousy" would have hit me , but but a smack to the forehead saying "D'OH!" probably would have, lol.

You mean someone actually went into the Tiki Room? Wait, more than one did this? Mind = blown. :jester:

At one Tiki Birds performance soon before the park closed, there were actually 8, count 'em, 8, people in the audience.

I almost always visit my freaky feathered friends there when I visit, and plan to do so again this fall. Should I get a FP+ for it? ;)

So since it is on the rise, marriages could be done thru skype etc. IN the park, lol. The Officiant may not even have to be there. We could just be going on our merry way , appear that we are looking up FP+ and all along we are getting hitched, real stealth like. Is that stealing services? If Disney doesn't offer getting married IN the park, how can anyone steal a service that isn't offered? Seems to me if they were getting married in the same Disney approved spots and not paying the fees, that is more theft like . So there is my suggestion to all who are interested lol...skype the event!:thumbsup2

Can't be done in California. The only exception in California law is for an armed forces member who can be represented by an attorney.

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=fam&group=00001-01000&file=420-426

420. (a) No particular form for the ceremony of marriage is
required for solemnization of the marriage, but the parties shall
declare, in the physical presence of the person solemnizing the
marriage and necessary witnesses, that they take each other as
spouses.

It's better since they evicted the "new management"

I keep on hearing this, but this wedding was at Disneyland.

Thank you. These pages are riddled with FP+ suggestions and other notes. This was done at DISNEYLAND CALIFORNIA.

California. Disneyland. Not Walt Disney World.

And to the person who can't believe that flash weddings are a sore spot for many Disney brides - have you taken the time to read, even for an hour, the posts in the wedding area of this board? If not, head on over there. Great reading.

I'm not sure if you meant me or not, since I brought it up. But I posted that I know it's a sore spot because I used to read that board. I just don't agree that it's a big deal.

Those posts usually come across to me as whining "if I can't have it, nobody should," even though there are many, many other perks that come with the expense of a DFTW. Saying your vows inside the park just doesn't happen to be one of them.

I know it was at Disneyland, I was throwing a broad blanket over Disney. (I'd bet that it has occurred at WDW as well, just not mentioned in the article~and not doing a search for WDW stealth weddings right now)I guess it's WDW then for those who would like to entertain using skype for their nuptuals :surfweb::bride::groom::tink:

Not allowed in Florida either. Seems kind of odd too since Florida allows notaries public to perform weddings. The language suggests that this rule applies to clergy and judges, or other officiants.

http://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads/notary/q_and_a(2).pdf

Q: May a Notary Public solemnize the marriage of two individuals when one party is not physically present, but participates in the ceremony via telephone or video transmission, or when one of the parties is not present and another individual represents that person in the ceremony, i.e., "marriage by proxy"?

A: No. Florida law does not allow marriage by proxy. Both parties must be physically present before the Notary Public for the solemnization of the marriage. The Notary should properly identify both parties prior to the ceremony.

:wave:Ooops, sorry that was me who keeps making that suggestion.

Oh, got it! I went back and re-read to find it. I guess I wouldn't call one mention on page 3 being "littered" with mentions, lol.

I do think you have a fantastic idea, though, whether it could be implemented as a FP+ type of thing (or whatever DL has) or just a paid add-on like a tour.

I envision it to be a couple who wants to spend more money on their honeymoon at Disney but aren't inclined to want an extravagant wedding with a giant guest list and entourage ...so they plan their trip to Disney, make a wedding meet and greet FP+ selection, show up in Mickey/Minnie wedding ears, get pictures with the Disney photographer that they add to their Memory Maker photographs, grab a wedding cupcake, and say they got married at Disney legally without breaking rules or being sneaky. They pour what money would have been spent on the pavilion experience into their Wedding/Honeymoon vacation. I believe it would be a significant draw for couples who don't want expensive hometown weddings and showers but would prefer the memory of saying they were married at Disney. It could also draw the couple who would like to elope to Disney because they aren't the type to elope to Vegas. They are a couple who is more inclined to spend time in the parks rather than in a casino.

And yes, I completely agree with you that it would not steal from their high end wedding business. It's offering a completely different product. I suppose it would be more along the lines of a couple who take a Disney cruise for the vacation and happen to have a brief ceremony on the beach.

ALL WE NEED IS LOVE:lovestruc(and so Celia doesn't have to sift through 8 pages of posts to find my FP+ suggestion...)

I've just been hoping to get some Dreamers to pretend to be Imagineers with me in regard to all this wedding stuff.
This is my easy fix for Disney that should please shareholders, nay-sayers, sneaks alike.

  • Pick an under utilized area of any of the parks…
  • Convert to a Low Key Wedding area/similar to Meet n Greet attraction.
  • Offer FP+ in order to reserve time slot
  • Disney photographer for Memory Maker photo option $
  • Gift shop with Wedding ears, Mr/Mrs t's and souvenirs $$
  • CS restaurants for wedding cupcakes, Italian wedding soup, $$
Does this make Disney a ‘Vegas’ ? Does this interfere with their high end DFTW wedding business?
Nope...Two different demographics

It’s a perfect marketing strategy catering to LOVE and to those who LOVE the Mouse!

So IF we were pretending to be Imagineers...(It's okay to dream and play along because we know it will never happen.)
Where would this imaginary area be?
Tom Sawyer Island? City Hall?
Back lot at DHS?
Gazebo in France?
and remember...........it's just for FUN.

Sidenote...
One problem they'd have to overcome to do this at WDW is that in Florida there appears to be a 3 day waiting period after you get a marriage license (which can be waived if you complete a Florida pre-marital course). I believe in Nevada there's no waiting period - thus the ability to do quickie wedding ceremonies.

And, in FL you can only get a marriage license from certain county (or state court) officials. But I guess there's probably one close to WDW, so that's easy enough to work out I guess.

Florida Marriage Statutes: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0700-0799/0741/0741.html

Also as the above poster noted,
There is a 3 day waiting period in Florida after you get a marriage license which will bring in more revenue as the couple will likely be staying on Disney property and spending pre-wedding $$$.

We used to go there for quick naps in the air conditioning. I was holding a sleeping toddler once and the CM let me sit through three shows. Of course, this was many years ago.

Well, I certainly wouldn't mind if they dumped Stitch's Great Escape and turned it into a wedding pavilion! Not the best location, but still, anything to get rid of that ride, lol.

Okay, now that I got that out of my system, I'll join in!

So, here's my crazy idea. Disney makes it a before-rope-drop reservation (like an ADR), and they hold them at selected, rotating rides each day. You could schedule yours for your favorite attraction! Have you always dreamed of getting hitched in a Doom Buggy? Or how about in the control room of Mission: Space? In front of the pagoda in Japan? Lots of possibilities!
