On occasion it can be quite challenging living with a Disney resister, especially when the subject of family vacations comes up. When a Disney destination is mentioned the resister will roll his eyes and sigh. Sometimes the mentioning will be completely ignored, other times it is met with anger and frustration. Talks can be civil, at times, but they can also lead to tears. Yes, this is the life I lead as the wife of a Disney resister.
Hi, my name is Michelle, and while I live with this affliction, I must say that I often get my way, as was the case with our most recent adventure. The Resister did not want a Disney vacation this year, but somehow I was able to convince him that 2 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge, followed by 4 nights on board the Disney Dream was a good idea - yay me!
Lets learn a little bit more about the cast, shall we? We'll start with yours truly. As I said before, my name is Michelle, and up until quite recently I was a stay at home mom to two boys. I have recently decided to go back to work and am using my love of Disney to do that. I have just become an Authorized Disney Destination Specialist - sounds fancy, huh? It just means that I'm a travel agent specializing in Disney vacations, so far I'm really enjoying it! When I'm not learning about all things Disney, I spend my time hauling my boys around, watching their sporting events and volunteering at their schools.
The Resister has a name, Don, and as you have gathered, he never drank the Disney kool-aid. He doesn't hate it, he just doesn't love it. He wants to go someplace else, give his vacation money to someone else, do something else..... sigh. He has a very demanding job, works many hours and travels a lot. I get his need to relax on vacation, and I understand how I have erred in the past by not making our Disney vacations very relaxing (I'm a doer, not a sitter), I was really hoping to correct that with this trip. Would I succeed???
Here is a photo of Don & I from this trip, taken at Jiko
We have two boys. Justin turned 15 in April and has already got a countdown going until he can get his driver's permit - I am sooooo not ready for that! He will be a sophomore in high school in the fall and plays both basketball and baseball. He is also a good student, especially in math, which is baffling to me because I hated math! He's a good kid and we are quite proud of him! Of course, he is a teenager, and he has his moments.....
The baby of the family is Jared, he is 10. He also loves sports, playing baseball, basketball and football. He's an 'A' student at school, but I am most proud of the fact that every year he has received the citizenship award for good behavior. He is a teacher's dream and I have had more than one tell me that. But, he can also drive us nuts, as good as he is at school, he is a talker at home. He talks, talks, talks, talks and he has a fearless streak that makes me very nervous - all the blond in my hair, yeah, that's covering up the gray that I'm sure can be attributed back to him.
So that is us in a nutshell, here is just a quick peak at our plans just in case you didn't read my PTR:
We decided to drive...........from Oklahoma...........it's a long way............
We had a 2 night stop over planned in Atlanta, followed by the Disney portion of our trip (2 nights at AKL and 4 nights on the Dream), then a day was planned for Kennedy Space Center before we started the long trek back home. Hope you'll stick around!
