We own at the VGC and since it is quite a bit smaller than all the other DVC resorts there is, I believe, no dedicated DVC staff. Maybe a manager, but all of the housekeeping staff I believe is the same as for the resort. Further, if you have a problem you deal with the CM of the resort hotel. I've never encountered someone who just dealt with DVC.
Because of this, I've never had any problems with the staff or the rooms at the VGC. The difference between the hotel rooms and the deluxe studios is that the studios are larger and have a small kitchenette area. Further, the deluxe studios don't have any "parking lot" view rooms. You either look out on the pool (toward
Disneyland and the fireworks), on the Redwood Trail in DCA (views of trees and Grizzly River Rapids if you're high enough) or Paradise Pier in DCA. Further, the VGC has some rooms on the first floor, and although you may like the view from higher up, it is really nice to be able to walk straight to your room without an elevator.
We've also stayed at the AKV and had no problems there with the rooms being dirty.
The big difference in my mind between the deluxe resorts and DVC is that I can get a one or two bedroom at DVC, whereas I would never be able to afford a suite at the hotel resorts. That is the big difference in my mind.
