Well this isn't a trip update, but we just found out so I thought I would share.
I'm not sure if I've introduced any of my pets in this PTR, but we have six cats and two dogs---a Golden Retriever named Mickey and a Chocolate Lab named Rocky. Both dogs are about 2 years old.
Mickey was diagnosed when he was a little puppy with hip problems. It's pretty much inevitable that at some point down the road, he will need two hip replacements or one of those carts dogs sometimes use for their back legs.
Here's Mickey.
Rocky has always been our healthier dog. Besides a few little sprains, etc. we have never had any problems. Within the past few months, we had noticed that Rocky started favoring one of his back legs. We took him to the vet where they gave us pain killers and told us to keep him quiet around the house and give it a few weeks.
Well, almost a month later things seemed to get just as bad if not worse, so we took him back to get him x-rayed. They had to put him under anesthesia and x-ray his back legs. We were hoping for a broken leg or something that could be easily fixed and reasonably inexpensive, rather than a $5,000 surgery for a torn ACL or something.
The results are in. Our poor 2 year old Rocky already has arthritis in his back leg. It is going to be a source of pretty much constant pain and at this point, all we can do it start him on supplements (which Mickey has been on for years now, so it's nothing new), give him his pain pills and try to get him to lose a few pounds. One day, he will inevitably have to get surgery on his tendons to alleviate some of the symptoms, but for now it sucks to know that your family member is in pain and there isn't too much you can do to help it. Mickey walks a little funny, but he has never indicated he is in any pain---so this is all new to us.
Here's our Rocky.
Anywho, so that's my not so happy and very un-Disney update for now. Not too much going on in the way of planning for our trip, just sitting tight and waiting for December hours to come out so we can start talking about important stuff---like dining reservations!!! Mmmmmmm.
