CARNIVAL CRUISE for $80.00 PP!!!!

I'm wondering who will pay for the food, etc. Will Carnival provide this or the government on top of the $.... Actually it seems Carnival is about breaking even in this deal I was looking at some numbers and it seems like Carnival would have made around $215 million during these six months in cruise fares and that's only basing the amount off the inside room rates, not even figuring in the $$$ for the suites, etc.

I read on Carnival's site that 2 of the ships has cancelled all cruises to and including March 6, 2006, and the other to the end of this year. That's a long time, I would think that even with the federal $$ they will take a hit with customers whose trips were cancelled.

Of course, I know they should not complain, but we know how it is. Your trip gets cancelled, people will get upset when it's right or wrong.

I guess it's better than a shelter, but I would be interested in the logistics of how and who will be going to say onboard, who gets what rooms, etc. There may be some chaos.

Carnival article

Regardless of compensation they may receive I think this is charitable on the part of Carnival. 7000 people will be given shelter because of this.

Even with them beng compensated for the use of them. No other cruise lines that I know of have stepped up so good for Carnival.

My only questions, and this may seem weird but, like one of the other posters. what about the food. I know that they will provide the food and basic needs, but will the boat be operational just as if it were going on the sea? Like the pools, will they be aloowed to use them? That would be good for the children that were caught up in this for them to sort of get away from it all and have some fun. Also, what about the casinos surely there wont be any need for them, and the alcohol.

These are just some basic questions going through my head. But again, THANK YOU TO CARNIVAL!! Them in addition to Texas, Northern Lousiana, and other states for stepping up and helping these people. IN a blink of an eye we could be inthe same situation. Maybe not from a hurricane but from other things such as Tornadoes, earthquakes, etc...

The ships will probably be used for emergency people who will be getting the city back in shape, fire, police etc.

Yes, that is true. My DH is on the FDNY and about 300 firemen were sent down south. They expect to stay on one of the ships. That is probably the best idea to avoid problems over rooms, food, etc.

Indeed Carnival is NOT doing any of it for free!! As much as the refugees need immediate help (they were abandoned by this government) this is a recipe for disaster. Is it not a fact that cruise ships harbor viruses and bacteria and spread disease throughout ships due to the lack of air circulation? Throw into that equation thousands of people who have been exposed to every possible water borne illness, sewage, and dead bodies.
Someone in Infectious Disease please tell me how this will work?
The news is reporting the ships are for the homeless.

Seems the refugees won't be on the ships, but the emergency workers. I would imagine there is going to be some protocol for "disinfecting" workers when they come back aboard.

I guess, we just won't know for sure until it happens. All the news reports are conflicting. I just heard first hand from the FDNY that workers will be housed on the ships, but who knows. :confused3

Housing relief workers onboard would certainly be safer. Meanwhile please give as much as you can and donate blood, there is an urgent shortage!!
