Candlelight Processional Information - Narrators and AP Sweepstakes Link

I went to the 7:30 show tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 4th. We got in line about 7. We were about the 5th row back on the right side. A center seat would have been a better view, but we were happy to have a seat. The sign language interpreter was right in front of us and it was really interesting to watch her - it was beautiful. Definitely not necessary to wait for hours in line unless you must have the front row. There was plenty of standing room available. I imagine it will be more crowded on the weekends and as it gets closer to Christmas. Checking in for wristbands was super easy. It was at ticket booth 4. The CMs were standing out by the ropes for the booth checking emails and passes, then putting on the wristbands. I was worried because one of my son's didn't activate his new pass until after Nov. 12th, but they didn't say anything about it. It was our first Candlelight Processional and really loved it. Hope they have this many performances from now on so we can make it an annual tradition.

Thanks for the info! I was specifically wondering about this issue because I want to take my BF but his AP wasn't effective by 11/12.

I read today on Disney Parks blog that the narrator for December 20th has changed to John Stamos.

Just passing along information,

REALLY?! Awww!!! I was really looking forward to seeing President Palmer!! Boooo! Oh well. At least we have tickets!

We went tonight (Dec. 4) and stood in the non-reserved section - showed up at 7pm for the 7:30pm and had our pick of spots. Even folks showing up as the show began had room to stand. Don't know if that'll change, but not crazy at all on this weekday night.

I'd be down with an Uncle Jessie Christmas. Especially if he sported that sweet mullet.

The Entertainment division is planning to relocate Candlelight to DCA's Hyperion Theater for 2013. The number of days will be increased from 20 to about 30. With a dedicated, easy-to-darken venue, there's no telling how many performances Disney could schedule per day. The move would also allow Disney, if it so chose, to charge admission to the event.

I was lucky to score tix through DVC. We received an E-mail last week, telling us to call and request the time/date we wanted. Tix were waiting for us when we checked into the Grand Californian. We went on Wed. Dec.5, 7:30. When I asked Casr Members (outside the gates) where to go to line up, I was directed to Ticket Gate 4. When I got there, another CM told me I didn't need wristbands, but to go on in and show the tix to get to the correct line. So, we went in the entrance gates and asked where to go. We were told that we needed wristbands. I told that CM that we were told that we didn't need them. ugh! They checked with another CM who directed us to a line to the far left. There were only 7 people in that line! When they were ready to let people in, they escorted us to the front row!

Kurt Russell was the narrator & perfect for old gals like us, who remember him in all his Disney movies. He mentioned that it was Walt Disney's birthday.

So if you are a DVC owner, you can score great seats!

Hello, all!

We are fortunate that we won AP tickets to see the Candlelight Processional on Friday, 14 December, at 7:30 pm; however, when we won, we quickly threw a trip to California together, for the sole purpose of seeing the Processional. School and work will have to be missed, and it will cost money were were not planning to spend. We decided, however, that it would be worth it, for this would likely be the only time we would have the opportunity to see the CP.

Our concern, now, is the weather forecast and we are wondering if we should just save our money and cancel the trip. I am hoping some of you who are local to the Anaheim area can provide some insight as to whether the forecast is usually correct, or if it is usually exaggerated and never comes to fruition, around the Disneyland area. We know that, if it is raining, the Processional will be canceled, which would defeat the entire purpose of our trip.

Currently, the forecast shows:

Thursday, 13 December -- 40% chance of rain
Friday, 14 December (day of the Processional) -- 10% chance of rain
Saturday, 15 December -- 10% chance of rain
Sunday, 16 December -- 30% chance of rain

Optimistically, I look at the forecast and assume that we should be safe for the Processional on Friday; however, I am wondering what you, the locals, think and what your advice would be. Also, how quick is Disney to cancel the CP when rain starts?

Thanks, very much, for your help! It is appreciated!

I'm about 15 minutes away from DL and I think the forecast is to be in the upper 60s, possibly low 70s. You should be fine. It's been getting foggy in the evening, but not until much later. (Be sure to let me know if you have an extra ticket )

One of the processionals was shortened due to the weather, so there's not usually a lot of notice. I'm sure they would try their hardest not to cancel, so I think it would be last minute unless it was a storming all day kind of thing.

It's hard to say right now about the rain. 10% I would risk. The rain we had last week, was barely a drizzle most of the week (not the days of the cancellations). Can you wait until its closer to change your mind?

I was just at DL on Sat an it was perfect for a Sec visit.

The rule I go by that almost always works for me is that I don't worry about rain unless it is at 30% chance or higher. 10% is just the weatherman being cautious.

CP will get cancelled if it is raining or even misting, but they will send them out and try and go unless there is actually rain or heavy mist falling. They will cancel mid show. They have already done that twice this season.

How long would you say the entire event lasted? I've never seen it and would like to know roughly how long we'll be there so we can plan things accordingly

It was about 50 minutes. I remember looking at the clock on the train station at 8:15 and it wasn't quite over.

I would say the same- the kids really wanted to go on 2 more rides and they so badly wanted to leave at 8:10 but it wasnt over- it was about 8:20 all of us enjoyed CP. an hour later we left the park with one kid crying-- why do they always get first pick..... Star tours- I should have split up with DH- he to Star Tours & me with one to the Matterhorn. It was his turn to pick and I didnt realize we would be out of time. We had to get on the monorail before it closed (well not had to- wanted to as we didnt want to walk down main st with thousands of people after fireworks & we had already seen them twice the days before)

in case anyone has same issue.....
can't say they would do the same but here is what happened with us- we had 4 tickets available that we won in the drawing. only 3 of us had valid passports as of 11/12. The other 2 in our party were renewed 12/3 (lapsed from may- dec).
We had a friend that was going to get 1 wristband if we were unable to get all 4. We explained we didnt have valid passport as of 11/12 and asked if we could still get them- we were told yes early in the am by a CM.
when we went to booth 8 they scanned our AP's and issued 4 wristbands- the date that the AP was valid didnt seem to matter. They also said that one 5 yr old could sit on our lap since we only had 4 tickets and we should give one wristband to DH vs a child. Otherwise we had planned that DH would not get wristband and either stand and watch or get luggage. All worked out easily and it was a pleasant evening. We had never seen it before and enjoyed it.

For anyone without tickets there was plenty of room for people to stand and watch on the night we went and they did allow those without tickets to backfill all the empty seats (except reserved section- they left those empty)

I just watched it two nights in a row...on a whim...and with no tickets...and got seated! We were right in front of Great Moments with Lincon entrance...there is a roped off area right behind the seats for standing...it is roped off with no entrance, but you can just duck the rope anywhere to get in...most people did not realize this and just kept walking...cast members were lifting the rope to let ya into the standing section. That is also the area that they fill the empty seats from if you make your way closer to the front ropes towards the back of the seating section. First night we got seats...there must have been 100 empty seats that they filled when it started...could have gotten seats second night as well, but we bailed out early. We arrived at 5p for the 5:30 show and there was space to spare in that standing section...granted it was a Monday and Tuesday night. Great view even standing!

Also...we entered the park from the Main Gate both times which may explain why this area was so available. It is one way traffic only from entering the park on that side, so you can't get there from Main Street...they push you out the other side on the City Hall side...so just head out to the gates under the train overpass and rather then exit the park, wrap back around inside the other side!

It was forecasted to rain around 8pm tonight. Just heard around 6pm that the 5:30 CP was canceled 5 min. in due to light rain.

Just passing along info. Would love to hear first hand from anyone who was there.

P.S. Tonight is Dick Van Dyke.

2nd show went off as scheduled.

Just curious if you were there. It is being reported on another thread that the 2nd show started on time, was stopped, restarted, and then "rushed through to close during a light rain."

Curious if it was a partial show or just a speeded through full show. Either way, cool that those there got to see Dick Van Dyke. We were trying to decide whether to try to go for standing room for the first show, but decided that it looked like the rain was going to come and didn't go.

Funny/sad side note: I have tried to see Dick Van Dyke at three Disney events now. Something has gotten in the way every single time. Someday I will see him perform something. Hope hope hope. ROFL!
