Busted for Pool Hopping???

 When pool hopping gets really out of control, Disney could save a ton of time and money by appointing select DIS members as the "pool police." Some people here (generally speaking) seem to have more passion for this 'problem of epic proportion' than the actual Disney employees. :goodvibes They'll be easy to spot: Disgruntled guest worrying about others, wearing a frown and not having fun.:rolleyes1 If they aren't by the pool, they are probably stalking the mug vandals at the beverage islands or reporting the guests sans armbands on EMH night.

now that is funny

No one checked our room cards or even asked at the POR/POFQ pools when we were there the first week of April.

We're heading to CBR the last week of Sept., a week after the main pool reopens. I kind of hope they check IDs. I was concerned it would be really crowded since it will be new. However, it is a slow time of year and not really on the way to anything.

SAB & SoG are the only two places I've seen them do that. Having said that we've never even tried the pools at Poly & CR even though we've stayed there. If I opt for a pool day I prefer to go to the water parks. SAB is like a water park though!

Well said BamaFan! Enough already with the self-appointed pool police. Relax folks. It's a vacation! We've stayed at nearly every hotel on property, except the values. We don't pool hop. We've never seen people asked to leave the pool. We've never seen hotel keys checked by anyone. We haven't yet stayed at Beach Club, but have that planned for a couple of months from now. I do expect to see some enforcement there, based on what I've read on various threads.

As far as AKL, GF, CSR, BWI, BWV, Swolphin, CR, we've never seen anyone checking room keys. It just doesn't seem like that big of a problem. I once saw a family take the boat over to GF from MK. They all had on their suits and were carrying their swim gear, so they were no doubt planning a swim at GF. So what. When we stayed at GF, the Beach pool was a bit crowded at times, but that didn't reduce our enjoyment. There was hardly ever a soul in the courtyard pool. And this was during free dining.

Sorry, I just can't get that worked up about it.

I guess it all depends on your experience. I've been at the Polynesian a couple times during the summer and even once in the fall when you could barely fit in the pool, nevermind find a chair. I'd wager they weren't all Polynesian guests either b/c the resort (food court, buses, etc.) didn't seem overly crowded. Just my opinion, of course, but I would appreciate them enforcing it so I can relax and enjoy the amenities of the resort I chose to stay at.

Pool hopping seems like a waste of time to me, too. We stayed at the Boardwalk Villas last year and I never saw one person get asked for ID. We did have to show an ID to rent the life jackets but just sitting around/swimming in the pool? I never saw anyone asked :confused3

they only do it at BW when asked by a guest or the pool is overly crowded - lifeguard decision then I think.

Polyn and SALB (BC/yC/BCV) get done often - besides now you have to be staying there to even get in the pool - the wrist thing.

the moderates on the whole don't.

the only one I would think that might would be the CSR - but again until someone complaints they won't.

DVC members have pool hopping priviledge but only if they follow the rules. SALB and AKL pools are out.

I would be so embarassed if I did something like that and got caught. Especially if my DD was there. I am not one to go to the pools while I am at Disney, so it wouldnt even matter to me, but I can how that should be enforced. They wouldnt want everyone from all the resorts at one pool.

you would be surprised at how many guests from Epcot came over to SALB to pool hop.

once BC/YC (no BCV then) started to try to stop it - not given pool towels without room ID - these nuts just came to the quiet pool and took the towels.

we were at the quiet pool at the time - there were at least 3 groups of them doing this then. considering we were only at the pool an hour - you can image the problem.

so I definitely understand the fence and gates at SALB. It was necessary.

of course these guys probably now go to BW....or D&S.

they were staying off property.

I have to admit I was tempted to hop to CSR. Don't start lecturing me please :goodvibes , I'm not going to - I just love that pool and would love to take my kids over to see it. (We can't stay there because we have 3 kids).

I never understand comments like these. I don't understand why people should be expected to pay for what they want if that is required. Why are some people entitled to just walk all over the guests who pay to stay there or the guests who use the mug as the program requirements exist or the guests who actually stay at WDW resorts so they can use the EMH park time. Why are people so up in arms about the guests who follow the rules and not the ones who think they are entitled to anything they want?

If you are a guest of the BC/YC/BCV, you are entitled to swim at SAB. If you are not, you are not supposed to swim there. And if I am a guest there and I can't get a seat by the pool because non-guests decided they are entitled to my chair, that's wrong. Same for Polynesian pool, BWV pool, any resort pool. I have been a guest at BCV and found SAB to be completely filled with people, so that it was difficult to get a chair, even one for me and my family.

Swim at your own pool. Buy a new mug each time you visit. Leave the park if you are not a resort guest and EMH is happening. Leave the park if you are required to buy a hard ticket to a special event and you don't have one.

When I was at the Boardwalk in May '06 I saw a family kicked out of the pool. They looked so embarrassed, I felt sorry for them. I overheard them saying they had just wanted to take a break from the park and wanted to let their sons try the clown slide.

Jan '05 we saw two different groups kicked out of the pool at WL. My son had taken my GD out to the pool, while I was in the laundry room, doing laundry. The lifegards asked everyone for room keys and neither my son nor my GD had theirs, so my son came to the laundry room to get mine. I walked back out with him and showed the lifeguard my room key, but he still insisted on seeing my son's and GD's, saying that just because I was staying there didn't mean they were. I had to run back upstairs to get their room keys. When I got back, my son and GD told me I had missed all the fireworks. Apparently one of the poolhopping dad's got really irate and started yelling at the lifeguards, a manager was called, and he became even more irate when the manager supported his lifeguards. He started yelling that as much as he was paying for this WDW vacation his family should be allowed to swim wherever he d_ _mn well pleased. They were escorted out by security still yelling.

We always carry only one card to the pool. It's too easy to lose them. Will we have a problem with that? I leave the kids in the pool sometimes to go look in the shops or just roam the grounds.

No, clearly you didn't understand the comment at all. I wasn't condoning the actions, I was laughing and poking fun at those who spend their time obsessing over them. Leave the police work to Disney and enjoy your vacation.

I really feel that the hotels in Disney need to do what they do in Vegas, you must present your room key when you walk INTO the pool area or you are not allowed entrance.

but that is un-disney - another words unfriendly.

they won't have stop people visiting SALB - but some days it was more non-guests in the pool than guests.

My oldest niece and I were given the stink-eye from a lifguard at SAB. We were transfering from the Poly to the Beach Club, and she and I were just walking around the pool deck, fully clothed. The lifeguards kept looking at us, but we didn't even have a bag with us.:confused3 I wondered if they expected us to jump in fully clothed.

I am glad they enforce this rule. The cool pool areas are a big part of why we vacation at the deluxe resorts when we can. Why should someone else get the privilige of using those pools for free?

Okay, I have never pool hopped and never intend to, but I have a question. The lifeguard requests to see my KTTW card, which I am more than happy to show him, but how does he know that it is for that resort? It has been a couple of years since I have been and I don't remember much about the cards. Do they actually state the name of the resort that you are staying at on them? I just don't remember that much about the cards.:confused3

It has to do with the numbers on the bottom of the card. The lifeguards are able to tell which Resort your staying at based on them.

I have a question... as someone who would never want to be asked to leave and deal with any embarrassing moments that I can somehow prevent... hahaha

We are going to AKL in September for a week. My nephews are coming down for one day/night from college for my oldest son's birthday. We are doing MNSSHP together as well as dinner. They are staying at one of the values, Music I think, and I am sure at one point the 4 boys are going to want to swim. Any ideas on this situation?
