Are there legitimate online jobs?

I'm currently struggling to find a better paying job. Id like to try and supplement my income with some online work. Trying to find legitimate work online that pays more than pennies has proven to be very fruitless for me. I must be looking in the wrong places. Does anyone know of legitimate ways to earn money online? Or do you have suggestions of ways to earn extra money? My car is a 2003, so Im trying to only use it for commuting to work so I wont be doing Uber or Lyft.

The only legitimate genuine online work I know is social media manager, ie manage Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Google+ etc for a company. But to to this you really need some sort of experience and digital marketing qualification. There is also blogging but again you need to be able write good content, and have connections with PRs and brands. For this work you need to know some technical stuff about how to use website software like Wordpress, Google Analytics and Google Adsense.

Is there any chance for working online for your current employer? I have a small part-time job with one employer and I was eventually able to apply for online work for this same company and I got the job and I love it. The hours are pretty variable (sometimes I get 20 hours, sometimes I get 3 hours) but I try to take every hour I can for now. I usually work 2-3 hours in the morning before I go to my day job and then sometimes 2-4 hours in the evening after my day job.

My suggestion would be to look on Pinterest for some ideas (I have seen many, many Pins about online work) and then be available at crazy hours. I tend to get the morning hours because I am probably one of the few East Coasters who is willing to start work 3-4 am.

Think about what talents you can offer that might be helpful.... online tutoring or test correction (do you have a degree in something specialized like chemistry or English?), are you an excellent writer (many blogs will take submissions from guest writers), are you great with technology (you could do customer service)?

If you are really determined to earn some real money working at home, you may have to look into learning a new skill... medical coding, medical and/or legal transcription (I did this for years when my kiddos were small and if you type well it can be pretty lucrative).

Good luck in your search for online employment!..............P

Try Upwork, formerly known as Elance. They have a lot of different jobs online- translation, editing, virtual assistant, transcribing. My husband is a virtual assistant for someone and it's a great way to bring in a little extra cash!

Sites such as wahm.com, workplacelikehome.com, and ratracerebellion.com discuss work-at-home opportunities and jobs.

The answer is YES!!! I'm working one right now and it's been such a blessing for my family. The job I'm currently working probably isn't hiring right now, I'm an "Ads Quality Rater" for Google. I think it might be one of the best jobs in the world, but like I said, they don't open up hiring for it very often. You can search for the job on the career section of Google's corporate homepage with the phrase "ads quality rater" or the abbreviation "aqr". If you find that they are currently hiring and you'd like some tips about what to expect with the application process feel free to pm me.

Most at home jobs are telephone jobs in customer service, Uhaul hires at home telephone reps. I applied for that job at the same time that I applied for the Google job and I never heard back from them. I don't remember exactly how I applied for that job, but I think there was an option on a drop-down menu when I went to uhaul's career site. Apple and Amazon also hire at home workers.

I wanted to avoid putting my youngest in daycare, so a few years ago I started looking for info about legitimate work at home jobs and I stumbled across a page on About.com called the Work At Home Moms page: workathomemoms.about.com/od/
About.com is mostly a search engine, but they hire experts in certain fields to maintain info pages, and the expert that maintains the work at home moms page researches jobs with legitimate companies that are telecommuting jobs. It's a great source and I will forever be grateful to About.com and Google for giving me the opportunity to help my family these last couple years. My employment contract will end in July so I'm actually going to be using the work at home moms page again to look for another job.

Edit because after I typed this I searched the job openings at Google and there are no AQR positions available right now. But I also looked at the jobs at Uhaul (because I had it saved in my bookmarks menu) and there are currently 3 work from home positions that they are hiring for. At the bottom of the main page for Uhaul you need to find the link for "career opportunities", click that and then click on "moonlighter jobs", then "contact center jobs", then "work from home opportunities". If I recall correctly from when I was looking at the job myself, I think they only pay about $10/hr, but I believe that if you worked in one of the sales positions there were bonuses or commission for up-selling. It's been 2 years since i looked into the job though, so that may not be accurate info.

I normally agree with the upfront fee bit, but arise.com is one place that does require you to pay for your own background check and training upfront and is still legitimate.

I worked for them for over two years. They're essentially a company contracted by other people to supply telecommuting phone employees. So once you're in with Arise you can see which companies are hiring and sign up to work for them, complete the training and start working.

Lots of companies were on there like AT&T, Orkin, Barnes and Noble, Sears, and even a beloved theme park that we all share a common love for ;P

You DO have to pay OOP for the training for whatever company you work for which was kind of pricey. My training was 8 weeks, 5 days a week for 4 hours a day and then I jumped right in and started working. You either have to be incorporated or work under someone else's corporation. I think the Arise FB page lets corporations post when they're looking for people to work under them and their fee schedule.

I will say, it's not fun and the pay isn't great. There's a lot of requirements. I worked for the theme park and it was NOT fun like you'd think. I've also found some decent work through Elance (now Upwork).

I work for the Educational Testing Service doing test scoring from home. Its totally legit and pays $11 - $13 per hour to start. I currently make substantially more than that with bonuses. Hours are not guaranteed, however, and vary widely depending on their needs. Some tests require a college degree and/or teaching experience.

Amazon also hires customer service people who work from home but you have to live in certain states.

This was exactly what I was going to recommend, if the poster has a Bachelor's degree or higher. There are other testing companies who also use online scorers as well.

Thanks for mentioning the degree requirement, I forgot to mention that in my reply to the OP about the job at Google but it requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree or that you be enrolled in a bachelor's program of study. Also, Google really likes librarians for that particular job (probably because we're so well trained at organizing info) so I think that might be why I got the job in the first place, and why I love it so much. In many ways it's similar to working at the reference desk at the library.

I have a question about your job. Are you an independent contractor? I took a look at your link and it seems to indicate that you are employed by ETS, not an IC. Also, you said that hours aren't guaranteed (they're not a guarantee with my current job either) but is the job flexible or do you have a set schedule? The way my at home job works is that I can log into the system whenever I feel like it, the only stipulation is that I have to work a specified number of hours per week and I have to work in private because Google doesn't want people to see what I do. Another at-home job with a flexible schedule is exactly what I need, thank you so much for posting this!!!

Oh, this is for the OP: I'm in the process of being hired as a tutor at a local community college. Again, it's something that requires a bachelor's or specialized training (they have openings for tutors in the tech school as well), there probably won't be much need for tutors during the summer session, and it will probably only be a few hours a week this fall but it pays $16.50 an hour, there's a branch 10 minutes from my house, and it doesn't require any prep work or anything. Even if I end up giving half my pay to the babysitter it's still an ok wage. Maybe you could find something like that? Or put an ad in the local paper offering tutoring to elementary students? I have a friend who tutors math in her spare time, she makes decent money and she does most of the tutoring at the local library so she doesn't have to deal with strangers in her house. She says the kids are great but she doesn't always like working with their parents. Another friend gives piano lessons out of her home and she does well with it.

I love the tip about Google. I'm going to keep an eye out for those jobs.

I'm employed by ETS as part-time temp; no benefits. The schedule is entirely flexible. I submit the hours I'm available to work and they assign shifts based on my availability. For example, about a week ago we were invited to submit availability for June and that schedule came out yesterday. They schedule a month at a time but there are changes during the month as well.

There are several survey companies that have you fill out surveys they send you for points and then you can redeem them for cash or gift cards. I use those all the time and would be happy to provide a list of reputable sites. GlobalTestMarket. HarrisPoll. YouGov are the ones that I know off the top of my head.

MyPoints and Ebates are legitimate shopping for cash sites.

There are also many places that pay for writing. Cracked.com is a list site that I know of. If I think of more I will post them.

Obviously, none of these will be Get Rich Quick places but they are good to get extras every once in a while.

Leapforce and lionbridge. You cannot work for both simultaneously.

I used to work for lionbridge but dropped my hours so they dropped me (which I get). The pay is definitely decent.

I've worked for Leapforce for nearly 5 years. It's a great opportunity! Per our contract, I can't discuss any specifics about the job at all, but it's consistent work. I know many people that get their full 40 hours working from home.

Wow! I did not expect so much helpful information!! Thank you!! To answer a few questions:
1) I do have a Bachelors Degree in education. I am not a teacher anymore. It wasn't my calling.
2) I am a CNA & I work in Home Health Care, so working from home is not really an option.

I LOVE what I do. The problem is the money SSSUUUUUUCCCCKKKKSSSSS! So I wanted something I could do from home on my off days. While I have a flow of steady clients, if they end up in the hospital or have an appointment, I lose out on those hours and it can be very detrimental in my ability to pay rent and living expenses. I do live with my DBF, so I'm not alone in that aspect. I tired to apply for assistance and he makes too much to qualify, but not enough to be the lone support. We are in that dreaded low-middle, paycheck to payday loan to paycheck cycle.

Hopefully, some of the tips you all have will pan out. Thanks again!

You could always try fancyhands.com -- I used to work with them and every once in awhile when I need something, I go back and do a couple of assignments. It takes awhile to really make much, but, at least it's something.

As some listed above, there are many companies that allow employees to work from home, but sometimes those are hard to find. I know that with my last company, we had a number of off-site employees and many of us could work from home on occasions.

My dream job is something that I can do from home most of the time and only need to go into an actual office for meetings or 1 or 2 days a week. I have been trying to make a list of companies in my area that I know allow employees to work from home, but so far, many are not hiring or are not hiring for positions that are able to work from home.

I work for a company called Telenetwork - the customers are cranky but even though I work from home I have co-workers (we have teams and a team chat). My boss is great and I only work part-time. I have chronic migraines and am on partial disability. My job works with me to make up days I miss when I'm sick.

I've been working from home for four years now. Sometimes I wish I could work in an office but this works good since my husband works 2nd shift. My daughter has a parent off work no matter what.

I have a job grading SAT's online. It is with ETS.org and it pays $15/hr. I had to pass a certification to qualify to grade the SAT's though.
