My theme for our disney trip this year is "making our own magic". So far so good. Ive submitted my GOAL wish, I have a 8am BBB appointment on her B-Day, pirate cruise, giftbaskets in the works, etc.
A truely spectacular birthday cake is one of these moments and I have to be honest - its the only one causing me worry.
A little background: We are lucky enough to be going to WDW for my daughters 9th birthday - during the "worst week" possible to go - but we are going. In 1999 I baked my daughter a mickey mouse cake for her first birthday. I spent days decorating it. It wouldn't fit in the fridge so the logical place to cool items in NE during the winter - the garage. It was a horrible mistake. A cyber mouse with super mouse like muscles opened the tupperware. Resulting in last minute - first birthday - cookies rather than cake - ever since then - I have done whatever I can to make her birthday cakes extra special.
Ive looked through the whole cake thread - searched and searched - for tips, photos, phone numbers and flavors. I booked our magical birthday dinner at 1900 Park Fare so we can take advantage of the advaced methods of the GF bakery. Im ready and waiting to call 3 weeks out from our trip - but Im really looking for the extra special and willing to pay for it.
Whats the key - what do I say to get the bakery to be open to the extraordinary when its the busiest week of the year. How do I convince them them that this is important to us and we are looking for more than the ordinary sheet cake. I found a photo on one of the GF threads of the cake below - but this person had connections of some sort - this is just the type of cake we want - a super - over the top B-day cake.
Anyone out there know what they key is - do I call the bakery direct - is it the resturant - who is best suited to take my extra special cake order???
Your advice is deeply appreciated - Whip
