I got mine, will be getting in to FLL at 5:00. That's exactly the question I'm trying to figure out. It seems that hotels are cheaper in FL than Miami. I'm not worried about getting to the port in the morning, the company I used in January was fantastic, SAS transportation. And not all the hotels in Miami offer transportation to the port. I wasn't factoring in all these extra expenses. But I really don't want to fly in the morning of the cruise because of potential weather problems at home. I wish RCI had something close, but it doesn't seem so.

I know, me too. I almost booked OKW yesterday, had the screen up and everything. Not sure why I didn't just book it. But after looking at hotel prices in FL and Miami I'm definitely going up to WDW.

Miami hotels are so expensive. We'll over $22 for the night. It does include the shuttle to the port though. I booked the Hampton just in case but if we fly into Fort Lauderdale, which we are, that's a bust because I think the hotel is at the airport. :hyper:

I agree to not fly in the morning of. I'd love to fly in Friday and maybe stay with our friends in Coconut Grove for 2 nights but we never know if they'll be home. I don't want to stay there with the many and kids. ;)

That's about what time we'll land too. I tried to buy our flights today but because Joshua's ticket was bought in part with some old credits, the whole amount has to be flown by 9/20 so were going to use it for business for Michael. I have to wait until I get home to book because I need more points and the points part of SW is firewalls for some odd reason. :confused3

Are you going to go to WDW after then? I'm so envious. Joshua doesn't want to miss more school so I'm trying to see if it'd be worth it to go for just two nights. I mean, I guess it's always worth it. :thumbsup2  We'd just do resort time unless some windfall of money comes unexpectedly.

It was a place called Harvey's in HB. Not great but we got $100 off dinner and the certificate cost $50 and had to be used by a party of four. It's Fran who finds the deals not me!

It's a unique building too. The only small complex over there. They will rent, I just want to get good tenants in there. No whiners, trouble makers or deadbeats.

No, every construction project in Long Beach has to appear apply for permits etc. Our building happens to be located in a historic district so we have to appear before the historic commission, however our architect has complied with all the requests of the city, so the city is recommending approval.

Yesterday we got all the blinds up in #4. I have to size the bathroom horizontal blind, but the verticals are done. We have to get a curtain for the front door, but we're thinking Anna's for that. The contractor's guys are re-coating the stairs today, so we can't get up there today. Tomorrow we have our own stuff to do, so hopefully Thursday we will wrap it all up.

They're so expensive, I just wasn't expecting this. I'm going to hold out for a deal, I really don't want to pay more than $100, we'll see if that's possible.

They can't guarantee they'll be home?

Bummer, but at least you won't lose that $50.

Well I thought about just flying home but I'm sure I'll regret leaving the Florida warmth earlier than necessary. I think two nights is definitely worth it!

Well she's good at it. Glad you had a good night and some downtime.

For sure, I cannot even imagine the headache that renting can be. You have other properties too, right? Have there been a ton of deadbeats etc?

Ok so she found out about it and is going to show up? That's great that the city is recommending approval. :thumbsup2

Its moving right along. Hope today went as planned. You'll have them rented in no time.

I wasn't either. :scared: I guess it's supply and demand. We have to be right there basically so they can change what they want. My friend is a manager at a local Hilton and can share her friends and family discount. I'll let you know if I have any luck. Are you seeing anything decent for even under $150?

They both travel extensively for work and very last minute so I wouldn't know for sure that they'd be home until about 3 weeks before, maybe less.

No, I lose it. The first rep was misinformed. This is the first poor experience I've had with SW customer service.

I agree. I'm hoping we can stay until Sunday. Have you decided on OKW for sure?

Thank you :) there are a few that don't look quite as frightening under $150. Red Roof Inn near FLL is $85.99, it's pretty stark but for only one night I'm thinking I could be ok. I'm going to keep looking though.

Ohhh, that's too bad. Is it close enough that it would be worth it to save the money? I know you said you didn't want to stay there without them though.

    Oh no!!! I'm sorry :(

I'm still being wishy washy. I would love to be close to DTD but since I'll have the car will it really matter where I stay. AKV is my absolute favorite but would like a change of food options. Epcot isn't my favorite park so do I really want to stay at BCV or BWV. I really liked OKW but would like a 1BR for the jacuzzi. But then again I could use the hot tubs and save points. It shouldn't be this difficult :rotfl: by the time I decide they'll all be taken...

Thats not bad. So you'll just use the transportation company the following morning. I guess there's really no hurry. Plus it'll be a Sunday so you won't have to worry about much traffic. :thumbsup2

We could stay there without them but then we'd be with the kids and nanny. No thanks. ;)

Its okay. If he goes to camp next year he won't be an unaccompanied minor so I won't have to deal with the fee if he cancels.

Epcot isn't your favorite? Mine either. :thumbsup2 I have yet to hear many people say that.

What's the points difference between the studio and 1 bedroom? The jacuzzi is tough to give up that's for sure. A good book, some chill time.....heaven!

We haven't counted down so today we're at

Yes, they pick up at FLL and FL hotels for $16 per person. It was about a 45 minute drive to Miami.

No, that doesn't seem like a fun way to start vacation.

I don't hear many people say it either. Now at Christmas it's another story, I loved hearing all the holiday stories around the world. The other parks are pretty much a three way tie.

It's a 26 point difference for the two nights. The studio would be 26 points and the 1BR 52 points. Of course now I'm thinking about how much I love sitting on the balcony and watching the animals at AKV :upsidedow I'm hopeless!

Thats a great price. And then you'll rent a car in Miami to drive to WDW!

Here's my motto.......no one thinks my kids are as cute as I do and same goes for other people's kids. No one thinks your (the collective your) kids are as cute as you think they are. :rotfl2: It's true. I totally get that.

I haven't been to WDW during the holidays. One day. Hoping for Christmas 2014....maybe. There or Disneyland. Fingers crossed. This year fell through but with good reason: the cruise.

Id pretend I don't know the outcome but I do. :thumbsup2

Good for you! Spoil yourself a little. A one bedroom feels so much more luxurious for some reason. Woot woot. :woohoo: And you can go to the Gurgling Suitcase. Love the OKW pool area.

Well it's less points than most other 1B's so you saved simply;y by being there! Plus it's OKW...:thumbsup2

I'd take a 1B over a studio any day if I have the points!

And we'll see if I regret that decision  any money I saved with mom not coming has been used up with the hotel and car. Oh well, I shouldn't be nickel and diming everything. It's going to be an adventure :)

Now you might be one of the only parents I know to acknowledge this, I'm impressed!

One day soon I hope :) it's truly magical during the holidays. I'm sorry this year didn't work out.

Now that it's booked I'm really excited :cool1: I'll have to bank some points next year, so thought I might as well use some as a treat

I figured the same thing. :) If I stayed anywhere else the points for a studio are more. So the two nights in the 1BR were not that much more than a studio anywhere else, except BWV and AKV standard view. There was some major fuzzy calculating going on :rotfl:

In honor of your favorite Pam, Donald gets the honors today. :thumbsup2

I totally agree. A 1 bedroom feels more vacationy and less hotel like to me. The separate bedroom is the best.

Don't do that to yourself. You're going to have a great trip. You deserve to treat yourself and have a little adventure. :goodvibes

I think you might be right. :rotfl2: ;) I think I'm just realistic. It's impossible for anyone to love and appreciate and put up with my kids like I do. Nor do I expect anyone too.

Thanks. It will one of these days. I am dying to see the Osborne Lights! Have you seen them? Are they amazing? I am such a Christmas light junkie.

Absolutely. I'm glad you did. You'll be so relaxed and pampered. Have to decided what car you'll rent? I'm thinking small with good gas mileage.

    Cynthia,
I appreciate your comments over on my TR, but I'm going to respond here since we are all synced in and Fran has been known to monitor my TRs when she is feeling bad. Jenny I hope you don't mind me hijacking your TR but I don't have another place unless y'all join our Boo to you thread that has been dormant for months!

I am TOTALLY on board with all your suggestions, in fact I would even go wheat free since my only real addiction is pasta and I could give that up if needed. The problem is that Fran is not willing to sign on to any of the suggestions you have offered. I have substituted Turkey as bacon, ground meat and who knows what else and she has called me out on it, said she won't take part. She claims she has 100 lbs to lose and she just recently turned 60. I don't know how she plans to do it but evidently she thinks she will!

I'm approaching 50 and know there are challenges. I have already cut down on most of the things you talk about, but it's the "germ killer" that gets me! I need to get more active! I've already cut down on the calories. Possibly to the point that my body thinks I am in famine and is storing calories rather than burning them.

I think either way I'm still doomed!

Hijack away. I should have posted here but wasn't sure you'd see it. :goodvibes

You are not doomed!!! While you're still ticking, the game isn't over.

Move more, eat less. It sounds trite but its the truth. You can do it but it will take willpower and change and support. You've got that here. I'd have to be eating like 500 calories a day for my body to go into starvation mode. Maybe have your thyroid checked?

Start with maybe a 30 minute walks when she's napping, slow pace, nothing crazy. She's asleep, she won't know. ;)

I respect Fran immensely but you can do this without her support. She may not be on board but your health matters too. You matter too. While it would be easier if she were on board, you may have to figure it out otherwise. Baby steps and little changes like Cynthia mentioned. We are all here to support you.

We can all find a million reasons and situations to not do it. All of us. It's a choice. Baby steps friend. You are NOT doomed! I promise.

    Oh Allison :grouphug:

I hope I don't overstep, lord knows I'm known for it. This sounds like fear talking on Fran's side. As if she is afraid that if you get healthy, you will leave. Or that you don't love her the way she is and you want her to change. I know that during the years I wasn't being as active it really really bothered Jeff. His voicing it had the opposite effect. It didn't motivate me, it really angered me and like a child I refused to do what was good for me simply because he thought I should. It made the situation worse.

All that aside, (and yes without changes losing 100 pounds won't happen on its own), she doesn't have to take part for you to take part. That is a choice you make. She can't make you or not allow you to go to Curves, or for a walk, or make different food choices. You choose to let her make you feel bad and then do what she wants to keep peace. I get it, I truly truly do. I was married to a drug addict and alcoholic. I did things to survive that time that in retrospect I realize simply enabled him to keep doing what he was doing. I kept trying to "fix" him, or keep him happy so that he would want to change, but all I really did was neglected myself. And in the end he is/was the only one that could change himself. It isn't that much different here. Fran has to want this for herself, you can't make her want it or force her to do it. You can only control you. At the end of the day that is who we each are left with and who is most important. I truly believe that we can't love someone else fully, without loving ourselves the most, first. As women that is counter-intuitive. We give and give and give. Sometimes until there is nothing left to give. It's not sustainable and if we don't "feed" ourselves, not only can the desire to give run out, resentment can come in and thrive creating a hideous spiral and circle. It truly wasn't until my ex was out of the house and in live in rehab when I stepped back and looked at myself and went who am I? Where did I go? How do I get myself back? It isn't the same and not implying that it is, only saying if there is a way to step back and look at this bigger picture, more outside looking in than inside looking out it can provide clarity.

Choosing to go down a path that is not supported by the one we love is brutal and often unthinkable. Choosing to give up our health for someone else shouldn't be a choice you have to make for a relationship. I know you don't want to hurt her or make her feel bad but instead it's hurting you, and making you feel bad.

I don't advocate sneaking. It never works, it always gets found out and it isn't healthy on either side. You should (and CAN) do what is right for you. You can ask for her support and she can choose to give it to you or not but letting go of the idea of her doing it with you and letting her make that choice on her own may be the first step to allow you to pursue this. Pursue it for you. If she ultimately decides to get on board, so much the better. taking it slow, both on the exercise and diet front will allow both of you to acclimate and hopefully lessen her fears.

As we age sadly it doesn't seem that just exercise or just diet works. Both are required. Which pretty much sucks! I would really suggest trying myfitnesspal or something like it as an alternative. What I really like about is that you can enter your info, target weight, target rate of loss and it will tell you how many calories you need to be eating. If you work out, you can "eat bacK" whatever you worked out. But as important, it will tell you the composition of what you are eating. Target %'s fat/protein and carbs and then even down to the vitamin level. For me it was incredibly educational as to what I was really putting in my body. Low calorie or low fat is not always the best choice for a balanced diet. You can enter it online, on a smart phone and even scan bar codes and create recipes (I love that feature). I have so many standard dishes I make that I might think are healthy but entering them in really helped me identify what was, and what maybe wasn't, and think about small tweaks as needed. Or in some cases simply realize that x favorite item had a lot more calories than I'd been assuming and either I needed a smaller portion or less side dish!

I feel like a dope here but by "germ killer" what exactly do you mean? I tried to figure it out and all I came up with was wine but...:confused3 :rotfl:

You aren't doomed! You have a LOT of people here who support you and you can do this. But you have to decide you aren't doomed and do something about it. That's the hardest part. We are all here for you

    Awesome! :jumping1::jumping1::jumping1:

I know I know, money is just always in the back of my mind. Thank you :goodvibes it's going to be a fantastic trip!

I love it! Most of my friends have kids and they'll act like psychopaths while my friends just smile and ignore it, or worse comment on how amazing their children are. It amuses me greatly.

Yes, and they really are amazing. I love when they have the lights dance to the transiberian orchestra. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

    Thank you :)

The same, no need for a big one. Looks like Hertz is the closest to the port. Right now I can only get an estimate for $160, hopefully it will go down.

Have you decided what you'll do post cruise?
