A Disney-addicted mom plans a trip in August, 2010! *New pics #574*

I hope you're having a blast- can't wait to hear all about it! :goodvibes

I'm BACK! Trip was FABULOUS! Seriously awesome!!! I'm at work and have much to do but I'll give a full report ASAP.
I hope everyone has as wonderful a trip as I did! I can't say enough good things about this weekend.

Amanda

I'll try to start my trip report. I'm home with a sick (but sleeping) child so I don't know how far I'll get.

Friday:
I'll start by saying that I'm one of those crazy people who is perfectly happy to be at the gate 2 hours before departure. My biggest nightmare is missing my flight! We were picked up by a car at 6:30am. My nanny arrived at about 6:20am so I was getting a little nervous. It was pouring rain in NY; a perfect day to escape to Florida. We didn't get to the airport until 7:20am. I was definitely NOT happy! We made it through security without a problem (although we saw some stunning examples of NY rudeness while waiting - um, your poor planning does not equal my emergency - if you choose to arrive at the airport 10 minutes before your flight boards, you might not make it). We grabbed some breakfast/coffee and meandered to our gate. Only to discover they were already boarding! We were sitting near the front so no problem!
We landed a few minutes early and headed towards Magical Express. It is SO easy to navigate MCO without any strollers or whining children! :thumbsup2 We had a little bit of a wait for our bus. We were the last stop on the bus but it wasn't very crowded. The bus driver was pretty funny and asked about recent birthdays. Tom's birthday was 4/6 so the driver had the entire bus sing to him!
We finally arrived at YC. A CM was waiting at the bus stop for us with our check-in packet. He even had a Happy Birthday button for Tom. He escorted us to our room and oriented us to YC. Our room was lovely but quite far from the lobby. We had a view of the quiet pool and a nice balcony. Once we got organized, we headed to Beaches & Cream for lunch.
The CM at the check-in desk is a college student from Long Island so we chatted with her for awhile (I'm from Long Island). We sat at the counter and enjoyed burgers and root beer floats. Yum! They dimmed the lights, sang Happy Birthday, and brought Tom a balloon. Which we dragged all over MK... :rotfl2:
After lunch we hopped on a bus to MK. 1st stop was Guest Services to try to upgrade our park tickets to APs. No problem!!! We bought a TIW card (which has probably already paid for itself!). We used the Touring Plan for a late start at MK.
More to come...

Amanda

So glad you're back and had such a wonderful time! I can't wait to hear more details. :goodvibes

Thanks Hope!

We finished getting our APs just as the 3pm parade was getting started. We headed straight for Pirates. We probably waited about 15-20min. I love it but my kids find it a little scary so it's nice that we got to do it! Splash Mountain was too crowded to ride so we waited for Thunder Mountain. And waited. And waited. All told it was a 45 min line. I had Tom's birthday balloon attached to my purse. Right when we finally sat down, the CM told me I couldn't take the balloon with me. I didn't mind but I wish someone had said something sooner. The ride was awesome! When we got off, a CM handed us the balloon back. :rotfl2: 2 grown-ups walking around MK with a balloon.
By now it was time to start heading toward the bus back to YC for dinner. We tried to stop at Hall of Presidents but they were having technical difficulties. We stopped in some stores on Main Street to get ideas. We waited 20-30 minutes for a bus but got back in plenty of time to clean up and change for dinner.
Yachtsman is lovely. The CMs made Tom wear a new birthday button (he had taken his off). We had a wonderful bottle of wine and delicious food. There was way too much food! We had some coffee and shared a dessert. They brought a mini cupcake with a candle (in addition to our dessert).
Then we changed back into "park clothes" and returned to MK. We arrived just as Wishes was kicking off. Which was perfect for us! We ran to Space Mountain and waited about 30 min to get on. I love that ride! One of my favorites!!! One side note: we saw a family with a mom and 5 kids waiting in line for Space Mountain. The kids ranged from about 7 up to teenagers. Two of the 5 were crying. The eldest was beating the crap out of one of the other kids. It was such a mess! The mom had no control over the situation, everyone was overtired and miserable. It was so sad! And we saw them an hour later in another line. WHY??? Take your tired children home and put them to bed!!!
After Space Mountain we rode Buzz. Another favorite of mine! Then over to Haunted Mansion (which I haven't been on since the late 1970's!). At that point we were ready for bed. We bought some gifts on the way out (mugs for the grandparents, one toy per child) and headed home to sleep.

Saturday:
I made my DH get up early even though we didn't get home until 1am. We briefly thought about running to AK for am EMH but quickly realized that we'd be too exhausted. Instead our goal was 9am park opening for Epcot.
We were showered and out the door just after 8am. We had a lovely stroll along the Boardwalk and headed to Boardwalk Bakery for coffee and breakfast. We sat outside and ate. We took the coffee with us as we headed to the International Gateway. We arrive around 8:40am and a moment after we arrived, they opened the gates. They did a rope drop ceremony at mid-park (near Innoventions) and then walked everyone back toward the Land pavilion. The plan was to following the Unofficial Guide. Tom grabbed FPs for Soarin' and then we headed for TestTrack. We walked onto TestTrack. Fun!!! Then we headed to Mission:Space. We had never ridden it before (kids were too short). Awesome! We walked onto Spaceship Earth and then used our Soarin' FPs. After Soarin' (which may be my favorite ride!) we did Universe of Energy. I enjoyed it much more than I expected.
We wandered around the Flower Show. The topiaries are SO cool!!! We needed lunch so we headed back to World Showcase. We walked into Tokyo Dining with no ADR. We had a fabulous sushi lunch (complete with sake) and then went home to nap. After naptime Tom went for a swim and I walked around. We met up for coffee in the late afternoon. Then we changed clothes and had dinner at Bistro de Paris at 8pm. Yum! We were so exhausted that we went home and crashed for the night.

Oh, this sounds like such a fun relaxing weekend with dh! It's so fun that you got to do some things like POC and Mission: Space that you can't do with the kids. And all of those 'adult' meals sound heavenly. :cloud9:

And ITA that tired children should be taken home- it isn't fun for anyone when the kids have reached that point. :sad2:

We really did have a "grown-up" trip!
I could NOT believe how many tired, crabby, or sleeping children we saw during evening EMH on Friday night. Tom and I were a little shocked! I feel a little preachy but I really don't understand the point of pushing your kids past what is fun. Seriously.

Welcome home, Amanda! :goodvibes

Glad to hear you had a great trip. I love the idea of you guys walking around MK with a balloon! :thumbsup2

Hey Amanda!!! So glad to hear your trip went so well!!! I was thinking about you on the weekend!;)

So did this trip thaw your husband's resistance to Disney? Sounds like he was treated to some special birthday moments!:goodvibes

I think you likely were placed in the same distant corridor that I was for your trip...that walk feels like it takes forever, doesn't it?

You guys sure accomplished a lot!!! Sounds amazing! It is nice to do an adult trip every once in awhile, isn't it?

Your description of eating outside at the Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast sounds like heaven! I am determined to do just that in a couple weeks!;)

So glad to hear that they are in fact consistently opening the Int'l Gateway entrance on time to allow you into the park at the same time as the main entrance guests.

As for mission Space -did you do the green ride or orange?

And what did you think of the Haunted Mansion since its rehab??? Isn't it awesome!!

How was the weather when you were there? Were you cold at night?

Sounds like your dining plans worked out well.

Oh, I can't wait to get to the YC-BC!!! Your posts have gotten me awfully excited for our trip!:woohoo:

Sounds like you had a great little trip! I am with you on hot, tired, cranky kids. We just don't do that. We are there for them and once they are at that point everyone will be miserable. I think our mid day breaks from the parks everyday were what kept us all happy!

Great report so far! Smart to do all those rides you can't do without the kiddies! My kids are finally getting old enough they can do most of the rides, but I remember those days of switching off and it is so fun you got to ride the rides together! And morning on the Boardwalk brought back such great memories! I just love the Epcot resorts and mornings there are something special (well nights are too.) The trip sounds just fabulous.

Amanda, what a fun trip!! I love adult trips-- the people who chide DBF and I for going to a "kids" place just don't know!!

Wow, you can really get a lot done without kids, huh? :lmao: I think I've forgotten! It sounds like so much fun. All those rides, no strollers, or eight million potty breaks or "too short" for rides...I am very jealous! And the meals sound amazing!

I agree about tired kids. DH, however, is one of those people who tries to do "just one more thing" even though the kids are beyond lost, so I always end up leaving with a tired child by myself to go to the car or the hotel or whatever while he fulfills his "what children? I don't have any children?" disney commando issues. :rolleyes1

I hope you got lots of new ideas for your August trip!

It sounds like a wonderful trip!!!!! It makes me even more excited for our adult trip next Feb!!

You will have a blast!!!

Welcome home, Amanda! :goodvibes

Too funny. I'll get around to posting pics at some point...

Hey Amanda!!! So glad to hear your trip went so well!!! I was thinking about you on the weekend!;)

So did this trip thaw your husband's resistance to Disney? He's never been resistant so much as passive. And he loves to make fun of my addiction. But he definitely enjoyed a different side of Disney.Sounds like he was treated to some special birthday moments!:goodvibes

I think you likely were placed in the same distant corridor that I was for your trip...that walk feels like it takes forever, doesn't it? Totally! I was SO glad we had no strollers!

You guys sure accomplished a lot!!! Sounds amazing! It is nice to do an adult trip every once in awhile, isn't it? It was nice to be selfish for a change and do what I wanted to do!!!

Your description of eating outside at the Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast sounds like heaven! I am determined to do just that in a couple weeks!;)
It was great! Quiet and peaceful.

So glad to hear that they are in fact consistently opening the Int'l Gateway entrance on time to allow you into the park at the same time as the main entrance guests. I was thrilled!

As for mission Space -did you do the green ride or orange? Orange!

And what did you think of the Haunted Mansion since its rehab??? Isn't it awesome!! Such a fun ride! Awesome!!!

How was the weather when you were there? Were you cold at night? I wore a light jacket and I was fine. By the end of our MK night I was a little chilly but nothing terrible.

Sounds like your dining plans worked out well.

It was great to go on grown-up rides and skip Fantasyland altogether!

It's a great adult destination!!!
