We tell our school the truth also. They just put the kids (kinder and 3rd grade) on extended leave of absence and give us a homework packet for the kids to complete while we're gone. Their absence is approved and they get credit for "being there" as long as they do the homework, and they...

No additional charge. The counselors just come to the restaurant to collect the kids when dinner's over.

You can call the phone number for Disney cruise line: 800-951-3532 and ask them if they can change your dinner seating to the earlier time. I'd call ASAP to make sure there is still room at that seating for you.
