This may be the smartest thing I've ever heard - never unpacking! And keeping all the travel sized toiletries in the suitcase! Thanks for the tip - I'm going to follow suit!
And congrats on the 6-weeks of vacation time! Color me jealous!
I have worked for the same company for 20 years, so lots of PTO is one of the perks.
We keep a hanging toiletry bag packed at all times, just grab and go. We replenish it every time we return from a trip. I don't keep my bag packed, I don't even pack that thing until around 9 pm the night before I leave, but I do keep clothes that are only for vacation in their own separate drawer. Since we never know what time of year we are going somewhere, I can't keep a bag packed because I won't know what kind of clothes I'm going to need.
I usually wear the same clothes regardless of where I travel. If I'm going to a colder climate (or Disney in January, lol!) I add a couple jackets I can layer. But otherwise, I'm usually good to go. I was at YC about five years ago in December when it was absolutely freezing cold, and the only modification I made to my normal travel clothes was layering a hoodie and fleece jacket. I usually wear capris or long pants, as I find shorts to be uncomfortable, especially when it comes to vinyl ride seats.
The only time I specifically pack something different is if I'm traveling outside the US and have to fly. Anywhere in the states I usually drive so the size and weight of the bag doesn't matter so much.
