Toothsome Chocolate Emporium

Love your review and the pictures! Everything looks amazing and I think I need to set aside to try this several times!!!! :) thank you so much for sharing!

By the way, what was your order called? Looks like a perfect brunch item. :) I'm hoping they would be open for lunch and dinner and take reservations! Looks like it'll be a must with those wait times.
Mine was the berries and cream crepe. I asked and they still don't know when they are officially open and taking reservations

If anybody is going there soon I need to know two things- is there a drink menu? I have seen several pics in various places that show a bar with what looks like alcohol on the shelves behind it but I have not yet seen a drink menu. Also does anyone know if you are allowed to take an alcoholic beverage to go as you walk back to your hotel?

Second most important question- what are those chocolate looking cups that say chocolate shots? Is that cup actually made of edible chocolate and what in the world is inside it? I don't even know what it is and I want one.............

Well Yulilin3 I just saw on your facebook post that says the entire cup is edible, any idea what is inside?

TimTracker just did a video with reviews on Monday. Apparently the Totchos are amazing. Can't wait to try this in November!

I saw his video too and before I just wanted a milkshake but now I'm coming for the milkshake and staying for the Totchos.

I had never heard of Totchos and could not imagine who would eat something that looks so disgusting. Then I remembered I'm from Canada and we have poutine. I've heard that in conjuction with 'disgusting looking' as well.
I will hold my judgement, lol.

Even with all if my "it's their first week" filters on I am not impressed with anything but the looks of the restaurant.

There's a typo on the label of some of the candies in the gift shop. ("it's" when it should be "its") I did tell someone about that and he told someone else so maybe that will change.

Got our names on the list and got the initial "your wait time is" text at 7:11. Got the "your table is ready" text at 8:23. OK, that's fine. It's busy. I have no complaint about that part of the whole thing (DS does, though, but maybe next time he'll listen to me when I ask him if he is *starting* to get hungry so I can work out when to go to dinner)

The seater suggested the chocolate almond bread and gave EVERY indication that she was putting in that order for us. She was not; she was just suggesting it. As we waited at the table I started thinking about what I had eaten that day. The list was not long. Themeparks kill my hunger and I have to really remember to eat and make myself do it or I make myself ill.

That bread as a starter would have been nice. We put in our orders for food at long mysterious last. Fettucine and the veggie burger. It took an hour. We did at one point (after ordering and about half an hour before we got our entrees) clear it up with our server that we had wanted that bread...she got it to us quickly. BLEAH. The butter makes it better, but still not very good IMO.

The food finally got to us. DS finished the pasta in about 5 minutes. It was NOT a big serving. Last night we ate at Yard House and he got the small mac&cheese...he ate half of it last night and the rest for breakfast, it's that big of a serving. I know, I know...themepark...but this is fettucine alfredo for something like $13? It's pasta. Make the serving a bit bigger. (and please, I rarely want restaurants to give MORE food, but this was ridiculous)

My veggie burger was decent, but I ordered it as written...the "fork and knife", and expected it to be given to me as written. As written, it's wrapped in Bibb lettuce. Brioche bun *on request*. I did NOT request it. I got it. Bah! I said nothing but halfway through had to give up on the bun because buns are overrated. I'd rather eat the tasty part of the food vs random bread. Also, they say "veggie burger". But it was one of the black bean burgers. That's a specialized veggie burger! If it's a black bean burger they should state that. It's a constant refrain I have with Disney, who loves to change their veggie burgers around. And now Uni has started it, too.

The fries were VERY good. Like...very good. I was sad that I was too full (from the tasteless bun) to finish them. Thankfully DS was still hungry because of his small portion of pasta and was able to finish them off.

Our server had told us at the beginning, and clarified later, that if we wanted milkshakes we couldn't order those from her. We had to go inside to order those. Of course that's what DS wanted. We were seated outside and the line (that we could see) for the shakes was decent for quite awhile.

At the end of the meal, at around 9:30, we waited for the bill then waited for the check to come back after she charged the card (they do have an AP discount). As we waited I saw the line grow exponentially for milkshakes. I asked the passing person who seemed to be in charge if that was the line...she didn't know but called in to someone who said that the line for shakes was 45 minutes.

Yeah, it was like 9:44 and we had been there since 7:11 for a VERY simple meal. NO. Not going to happen.

She told us that we could have put in an order for the milkshake before we were seated and it would have been brought out to us once it was done...um, we would have had the shake an hour or more before the meal! No.

Call me crazy, but spending $12 on a milkshake isn't something I should have difficulties doing in terms of putting in an order. Even my 12 year old decided he had no interest in waiting that long for a questionable milkshake. So we left.

Oh and the server charged someone else's bill to our CC. Fixed it with the manager (that's what took so long for it to come back to us), explained it, was apologetic, but still. Holy moly.

Nearly three hours from start to leaving for a black bean burger given to me in a way I didn't order, a small portion of fettucine, and NO milkshake. Yeehaw. No thanks.

Yikes! I guess they need A LOT more practice!

Let's hope that service gets better. It sounds like they have some issues with ordering and the kitchen getting things out in time, along with servers needing a lot more practice. I will be there in a month, I hope they iron out the problems you experienced.

That is not good at all!

No way would I want to spend that amount of time having a mediocre meal. Sounds like they have a lot of work to do in there.........

May try the milkshakes as menu doesn't really appeal to us but if there's a queue like you encountered we won't bother...........such a shame.

Glad to hear your boy enjoyed Yard House meal........we liked it there and on the list for this year too........

Thanks for the honest review.........

The first wave of reports have not been good. Hopefully they fixed things up or this will be a missed opportunity by universal.

Here's an experience I had a few years ago along the same lines as this opening:

A local resort installed a zip line attraction, seven stations. If you've never done a zip, it's a bit of a complicated attraction: you have to put on a bunch of gear, undergo a brief training zip, learn the safety rules, then proceed. Our guides were new, and they fumbled and stumbled with everything. It took forever to complete the zip rides, mainly because the guides were taking time to ensure everyone's safety.

Went back the next year - what a difference. Guides were assuring, confident, and experienced. It took half the time as before to gear up. Once we began, the zips went fast, no delays, yet we felt as safe as the first time.

This "restaurant" (I want to call it an attraction) will be fine. Give it some time.

Yep, they'll improve...........

Going to give it a go anyway when we visit next month.........if only to buy some candy floss!!

Toothsome is a lesson on the overwhelming power of food photography to market to people who process things in images instead of words. The wdwinfo (written) review totally panned the three shakes they tried, yet apparently people are willing to stand in line to wait an absurd amount of time to buy an exorbitantly priced milkshake.

To be honest, we'll probably go in. We may treat it like a national park - "take only pictures, leave only footprints." Or maybe hit up the savory items as they actually seem to be priced reasonably.

Even my 12 year old said "shouldn't they have hired experienced servers for their opening?"

And they should tell you, up front, about the "order your shakes ahead of time and they'll be brought to you" part. Our server didn't say that. The greeter didn't say that. No one said it until it was a "could have" situation.

And the milkshakes are IN the menu! It's silly. The server says she hopes it changes. It would be like if Cheesecake Factory had all those cheesecakes listed, but then you couldn't order them from the server and had to go out to the lobby area and stand in line for them.

If anyone at some point could find out the brand of ice cream they use, it would be faboo. That way we can find out if DS can ever have the shakes.

If he hadn't noticed the shakes he likely would have gotten the chocolate creme brulee, as he normally loves such a thing, but nope. We went to the hotel and had Trader Joe's cookies LOL.

Did anyone else see where they were no longer serving milkshakes in the restaurant, you could only order them at the counter? I saw several tweets saying this on Friday. Makes me wonder if this is semi-permanent to try to control the wants or if it was just of that day.

That's part of what I reported above.

It's got to be part of controlling lines or something.

But as I was told too late, you can order one before you're seated (not sure how you time that) and when it's ready they'll bring it out to you. Which explains the servers I saw going by with the milkshakes on trays in the dining areas (we thought they were just doing it to be tempting).

Our server, as I mentioned above, hopes they change it. She didn't say "change it BACK", though, so I wasn't under the impression that you could have ordered them from your server at all this week.

Oh okay! So basically order at the counter to have it while your seated and not after you've been seated. Hopefully they do change it back, we still have 2 weeks before we leave.

I have no idea what the timing should be. If the line is 45 minutes and your wait time for a table is an hour (actually, 70+ minutes on Friday evening), you're getting your shake before you've even ordered. It's mystifying.

And no one told us to do that until after we were waiting (and waiting and waiting) for our check and then the CC to come back for me to sign.

All they asked/said when we entered the building was to ask if we were there for just dessert (go to the left) or for dinner.
