FROZEN in Carbonite! Updating for Halloween at Sea World and Disney

Are you guys 501st? My wife and I are, but there's no way we are going to Orlando on Easter weekend. We've done it once, and that was two times too many for us.

Edit: I backtracked through the thread and found your initial mention of the 501st. Nice to see more of our brethren here.

Neither me nor dh looked at the calendar. I had no idea Celebration was Easter Weekend! I see that now that you mentioned it.

I'm calling off this August trip. I have to have surgery and it's tentatively set for Aug 30th. And that's going to be the beginning of a long journey.

I heard discounts are coming out this morning. So I'm going to attempt to reschedule yet again. Possibly for Nov or Dec.
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you have to have surgery. I hope that all is well! Thinking of you! Sending pixie dust for a speedy recovery!

I'm so apprehensive about it today. I have an excellent prognosis. Getting an MRI this week as a double check. Had a stress test and echo that cleared me for surgery.

I hate medical junk. I am phobic of needles, so I am always doubly apprehensive. Sending :goodvibes

Spent my lunch hour catching up. You know that I have you on my prayer list! The man upstairs is hearing lots of prayers from all of your friends and family right now.

This is a great trip report, which I am only part of the way through, but enjoying every moment! Wonderful costumes! You are top-of-the-line Star Wars fans!

A question, and apologies if it has already been addressed in the part that I have not read yet: Will the Jawas trade with adults, or only with children?

Thanks! Getting anxious about Tuesday.

Thanks! Huge Star Wars fans, especially dh and youngest ds. Oldest ds is a trekkie. I'm a fan on a lesser level.

Yes, jawa trade with adults or children. But they are sometimes very picky about what they'll trade for. We've had trades refused.

Just reached the part of the thread about upcoming surgery. Sorry to hear about that! Hope you will come through it well, and be back to good condition!

Thanks!

We went on the dark side yesterday. Not sith, but Potter.

We have AP for Universal and IA and haven't been in 2 years!

I was so impressed with everything!

Security: Everyone goes through a metal detector.

-There are bins to put your purse/backpack and whatever else you are carrying. They go through a scanner.

-Every person with no bags has to empty their pockets into a container that looks like a dog bowl.

Security was so good with ds. Picking up that he has special needs. Dh was emptying his cargo pants pockets while security was talking to ds.

DS set off the alarm. The security guard wanded him. And asked if he had anything in his pockets. DS was confused. When my bag had been scanned and I was done walking through the metal detector, I went over to them.

Security asked if he had metal in his pockets? If his pockets were full? Etc.

My son stared blankly and confused.

Then he asked if he could see the inside of his pockets. Sure enough, there is was, he had his cell phone.

Entrance Turnstiles: Our tickets hadn't been used in 2 years. We had no problems going through the turn stiles. DS still has a ticket marked child, but this time, he was flagged to do a finger scan.

Guest Services: First stop was to get ds set up for the disability passes. He had an "account" set up 2 years ago with extra information about his disabilities. I gave his card along with his FL ID.

All the info was in there. We weren't asked any additional questions.

Was given the Attraction Assistance Pass and 3 Gap passes. And new plastic instead of paper AP.

We were informed about all the changes over the last 2 years.

I was impressed with GS at Universal.

Diagon Alley:

We started reading the Harry Potter books this summer as a family. We are on book 3.

This area of the park is a hidden gem in so many ways! Air conditioning is piped in from the ground and buildings.

It was so neat to see what we've read!

The interactive wands put Sorcerers of the MK Agent P to shame. But I guess for $48 a wand they better!

Gringotts: We didn't know if this would be too intense for ds or not. We got a return time and asked about the attraction. DH decided to go in the single rider line to check it out first. The team member, offered to take him inside to bypass some of the line. Shocked! What do they call magical moments at Universal?

Ds and I walked through the stores and enjoyed all the little nuances and surprises.

By the time dh was off the ride it was our return time.

Lockers: New experience for me. I'm going bag less next time! Lockers are free for 90 minutes. You touch the screen for either rent or re-open. Then you touch the finger scanner and a locker pops open. It takes a few seconds after you close it for it to fully lock.

Gringotts:
There are 50 steps up to the preshow. Due to the wait, it's slow moving so the 50 steps didn't cause a problem.

There are actually 2 preshows. The 2nd preshow is an "elevator" ride. Very similar to the old Genie elevator show that use to lead you to Adventure Port at Disney Quest.

I'm claustrophobic. But I wanted to experience this. I figured if I can fight cancer, I can fight my phobia! Deep breaths. The door shut and it was similar to the HM stretching room.

The ride vehicle reminded me of the Rovers from Dinosaur, but the seats are configured with a raised plastic between the legs.

This ride was like Spider Man, Dinosaur, and Men in Black rolled together. It's 3D.

I was expecting the backwards parts to be like EE. It wasn't. It was more like Spider Man, but smoother and a bit faster.

Oleander's: this was a cute little show. Kind of puts the chosen one on the spot to buy a wand. What I really liked about this show, we were arranged in the room with small people in front and taller behind so that everyone could see.

Of course, it empties into the big wand shop. DS has money and bought himself a wand. Then played all the interactive wand things he could find.

Butterbeer: DH and I loved it! DS hated it. We went with frozen. DS likes LeFou brew better.

Hogwart's Express:
This is a really cute train ride! But boy did I have to practice deep breathing. The windows are blocked from seeing out. What you do see is projected. And the cabin doors shut! Kept telling myself this isn't as bad as the closed MRI the other day. I'm not sure I'll be doing this ride again.

With all our exploring, we walked 13,500+ steps and rode 4 attractions. Gringotts, Hogwart's Express, Spider Man and Cat in the Hat. We arrived around 4pm and left around 8pm.

We love Universal too. Everything is so easy there, that it feels like the vacation part of our Orlando vacations:) Their security is so organized too. We stay onsite, and there's hardly ever a line to go through security. Oh the butterbeer. You should try the butterbeer soft-serve ice cream. The hot butterbeer is good too.

Ice cream sounds good. I think the hot Butterbeer in this head, I'd skip.

I bet onsite is really nice. I've dropped off a friend at a resort. But never been to one otherwise.

Their resorts are nice. I like to stay there instead of Disney for the Universal part of our trips, because you can just walk to the parks and some of them give you free Express Pass, which we need during the busy times that we go.

That's helpful.

The parking garage is a pain. Not so much the garage, but the signage getting back to I-4 is. I ended up using map quest to get us to I-4.

Is been more than a month since I've been to a park.

My son's Disney pass has expired. But dh has two passes left from when he was in the Christmas parade. Our universal/IOA and Busch Gardens / Sea World AP are still in date. So we still have plenty of places to go.

One surgery down, one more to go this week, Tuesday.

My son is auditioning for another show tomorrow! Break a leg little man. Though he isn't so little anymore. He is taller than me. Though that doesn't take too much!

While I haven't had the chance to get to a park in over a month, I did have the chance to meet with @hiroMYhero offsite last night! We had dinner and she gave me some fighting socks for Tuesday!
